so i saw soundgarden when they came to seattle (it was actually eastern washington, but whatever) and i really really love soundgarden but almost everyone in the crowd was SO misogynistic. im a 16 year old girl and like every guy would either try and feel me up agressivly or they would scream that i would get killed in the mosh pit because i was a girl etc. i held my own. but i was wondering if this has happend to any other girls at soundgarden concerts? (it happend to my female friends too)
@sirfortiscue i was there mayn...at first i thought his voice was shot early on...but then these earlier gems hit and he nailed it...i actually wanted to cry
There used to be this amazing version of nothing to say on youtube and the bass was ridiculous high in the mix so it was heavy as fuck, alas i can no longer find it :(
Damn..Look at 1) how much slower, and as a result, heavier the song gets at 1:24, AND 2) how much more Cornell's voice matured over what? 2 years. Amazing song.
I love these guys because their music was REAL grunge. They weren't the typical I-suck-so-bad-at-music-all-I-can-do-is-scream-like-an-idiot grunge band, but a real damn good grunge band. Good melodies, awesome psychedelic riffs, and even more important: well tuned high pitched shouts.
I saw this tour, i was 17. They came out to beyond the wheel. It changed my perception of what good was. It was the height of glam fakery. I thank them for making me a better musician. Such a great time, name one band that came out in the 2000's that is this good or close. All you kids out there, study this. There is so much more out there than current state of music. ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY SOUNDGARDEN!!!!!!!!! Matt Cameron is the best of his time.
soundgarden probably stand the test of time better than most the bands of that era
regarding your question wether theres a good band comin out in the 2000's thats in anyway close to soundgarden quality in my opinion theres one-queens of the stone age
i think they r worthy successors. they have that great combination of killer pop-rock tunes along with some depth some definite experimental stuff+ a great vocalist
Holy shit - I'm flashbacking!! The London segment reminds me of the first time I saw Soundgarden "open" for Faith No More and Voivod. Cornell's vocals are fucking dead on if not better than the original recording and this slower version of Nothing to Say kicks fucking ass! Thanks for posting!
That's actually Hiro Yamamoto playing bass. The way he plays reminds me of Bauhaus. He is cool. I love the comment about chris's genetic disorder lol!
I always thought they were a good 5-10 years ahead of their time, even at the height of the Grunge era. Makes me wonder if their success (perhaps commercial, perhaps cult following) would have been greater had they come out later.
Just everything. You're correct. But one of these days search, here on you tube, LINDA MARTINI - "Este mar" or Dá-me a tua melhor faca". Hope you like (not like you like Cornell, but i'm not expecting that).
And to think I was dizzy in a hair band phase during that period. I WISH MTV would have been brave enough to play music THIS heavy at that time (even though they EVENTUALLY started Headbanger's Ball. lol)

@zoidsvstherichies i think that just comes with the territory. i'm sorry about that. it probably happens to most girls at any grunge show.

Simple. Cornell has a rare genetic disorder that causes his lungs produce helium instead of carbon dioxide.

I know. Everyone is supposed to wear ball tightenin jeans or baggy jeans. And you're supposed to either have scene kid hair or short hair.
Our generation alienates those who prefer not to conform to what society has deemed "hip".
