This was Christian music's first real attempt to blend rock with hip hop and personally it works for me. Actually been kind of an anthem for me over the years. Petra's version is great, but this put an edge to the message.

In fact, it might have been the other way around where D.O.C. asked Bride to provide the music on this track because it appeared on the group's second album Pullin No Punches.
Bride was on the same label as D.O.C.(Starsong Records) in the year this version was recorded, which was 1992. Bride obviously didn't want to do the same ol' typical cover originally made famous by Argent, so they asked D.O.C. to add some extra flavor to it. This song was also the first ever rap metal song in Christian music, sort of a counter to Anthrax's remake of Bring the Noise with Chuck D. and Flavor Flav.
This version of the classic song "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" is excellent: A mix of rap and hard rock. The 1984 version of Petra is euro-techno pop version of this song. I don´t like much the 1977 also from Petra.
Between this version and KISS' version(Argent performed the song originally in 1968), I'd say this version is almost as good as when Kiss recorded it in the late 80's.

In fact, it might have been the other way around where D.O.C. asked Bride to provide the music on this track because it appeared on the group's second album Pullin No Punches.

Bride was on the same label as D.O.C.(Starsong Records) in the year this version was recorded, which was 1992. Bride obviously didn't want to do the same ol' typical cover originally made famous by Argent, so they asked D.O.C. to add some extra flavor to it. This song was also the first ever rap metal song in Christian music, sort of a counter to Anthrax's remake of Bring the Noise with Chuck D. and Flavor Flav.

This version of the classic song "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" is excellent: A mix of rap and hard rock. The 1984 version of Petra is euro-techno pop version of this song. I don´t like much the 1977 also from Petra.

Between this version and KISS' version(Argent performed the song originally in 1968), I'd say this version is almost as good as when Kiss recorded it in the late 80's.

Yeah... Petra wasn't my style - they had a few good songs, but they really didn't pull things off like Bride did. too bad Bride released some... less than favorable... albums.
