At first I agreed with the video. Then I considered the possibility that because KITT can drive for a longer period of time without the need to stop like normal cars, Michael just fell asleep at a point in the trip when he normally would have stopped at an inn to rest. So in the context of the show and KITT's abilities, Michael was not being an idiot. But seriousness aside, I thought the vid was funny.
