  • I wonder if there is an instrumental version of this song. I love the lyrics, but the background is also fantastic and complex!

  • "Dominique, a member of Mr. Kaizers' family, is confessing his sins to Father Martin. Tony, whom he had been protecting, lost in Roulette and had to pay for it with his life. He now prays for Monsieur Clavier and Mr. Kaizers' mercy, the one who goes against the family's wellbeing, is degraded from Chauffeur to Passenger, and receives their last pair of shoes: Boots of cement."

  • Were they actually playing Russian roulette or did he murder the guy?

  • @hyenabutt I always figured it was Tony being reckless and playing Russian roulette, but I guess the roulette could be a metaphor for general recklessness? After all, "there must be loss"! I'm not sure, though! Especially because I don't actually speak Norwegian, haha. But that's something I hadn't thought of.

  • @TilDuDor I was thinking it also could have been some sort of accident, with the gun accidentally firing.

Or, as is often the case, they could have thought the bullets were blanks. I'm going to guess it was that, but I may forcibly drag my Norwegian friend in to see what he thinks, haha.

  • @TilDuDor No, they were actually playing roulette, because there is another song called "Rulett" and the chorus of it is "hey Tony, put down your mandoline 'cause it's your turn to spin the magazine"

  • @hyenabutt

Tony was playing Russian roulette. It is most likely to think that since many of their songs from this album is connected. You can see that in another song, called "Bak et halleluja" where they sing

"It's my fault that Tony's packed in a car cover.

    (...).

I said, Russian roulette's not a good idea.

But he felt fine so he forced me along.

I watched him spin the cylinder.

He put the barrel between his teeth"

    (Old comment, I know)

Tony couldn't stop this guy from dying while playing actual RR. So he this happens.

  • @hyenabutt In the song Rullett they sing about how it is Tonys turn to spinn the barrel (as in a revolver) so I asume that they were playing Russian roulette. Dominique also says "but i have never been unloyal". Murdering Tony would be kind of unloyal wouldn't it?. I am from norway, but im haven't been listening to kaizers for a long time so im no expert on the matter. Hope it helps.

  • I love that the band names the people they sing about in their songs. It gives you such a personal connection to the song.

  • Poor Dominique :(
