I'm not sure of the extent of Mr. Chiroux's military experience but I doubt it would qualify as "extensive". I spent many years in the military including over three years in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. I never experienced the "alienating feeling" of being a veteran that Chiroux mentions. You should interview someone with a counter-opinion or in the least an expert in the psychology of suicides for more credible coverage.

Three lost in battle, six suicides, and the man with the Navy Cross, has been close to death by his own hand, regularly in the 20 years since his active service. My dad suffered PTSD from WWII, and I suffered and still suffer with Childhood Developmental Disabilities as a result.

I'm not sure of the extent of Mr. Chiroux's military experience but I doubt it would qualify as "extensive". I spent many years in the military including over three years in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. I never experienced the "alienating feeling" of being a veteran that Chiroux mentions. You should interview someone with a counter-opinion or in the least an expert in the psychology of suicides for more credible coverage.

Three lost in battle, six suicides, and the man with the Navy Cross, has been close to death by his own hand, regularly in the 20 years since his active service. My dad suffered PTSD from WWII, and I suffered and still suffer with Childhood Developmental Disabilities as a result.

War is a very hard thing to endure and there are things that we never forget. There are many studies that show that the suicide rate in the military shadow that of our civilian counterparts though. I would say ~460 suicides in a population of over 1.5 million (and that is just Army numbers), are far less ominous than this story implies.
