The last book i so read by this out standing writer was "shock wave"! his work helped me with the drive to seek to write my 1st book {Elisheva & The way stones} that i am writing on line at writing . com
Cussler's books are really well written adventure books often with a little bit of a historical fiction element to them. Good reads, all of them. To anyone who hates on Clive, seriously? You try being a New York Times best selling author.
Dirk Pitt etc remind me of the Thunder Birds TV show. I have read five of Clive's novels and that's the impression I get. Just a nice simple adventure story with a few twists along the way.
I love all his books,I've discovered about how great a story teller he is while browsing in one of Singapore libraries.Clive is an amazing author and yes once you've started reading you can't put down the book.
Most normal people read a book to relax and unwind. I don't believe that Clive's books were intended to be dissected as literary works of art. Speaking for myself and judging by the millions of Cussler fans around the world, I would say that he has hit the nail on the head. Who gives a shit about Steinbeck, Faulkner etc. I am all for freedom of speach, but some of you people really should consider getting a life.
I guess, this kind of language use people who r truly impressed by Clive Cussler...no wonder..my advice: start reading some serious literature so u can develop your expressions.

clive's books are garbage...but less garbage than Patterson or Koontz... u'r not a writer, dude...Steinbeck was a writer...u r a golf player from PV AZ..no hard feelings..or yes...whatever u want
Steinbeck was an egotistical gloryhound who fell in love with his own reputation. If you read his earlier works (which are good, granted) and his later works, the difference is startling. During WWII as a correspondent, he would demand rooms to himself while others had to sleep crowded on the floor. As he aged he viewed people less with compassion and more with disdain, as if the common people he used to write about were now 'beneath' him
Read "Travels with Charley," then reconsider Steinbeck
Clive Cussler is not good enough to swollow John Steibeck's turd..neither is you or me or anyone else living out there in the u.s. except maybe maybe for Toni Morrison or Cormac Mccarthy and few others...all I can say to u noelie84 after what u said is that I wish I can take a dump in your dumbhead
I'm not saying Cussler's a master of fiction-on the contrary, he has one storyline for all his books that he plugs different villians and locations into
I'm saying that Steinbeck isn't deserving of the reputation he's been given. His writing deteriorated as his fame grew. If you want to compare Cussler to a master, use Dickens, Lewes, Hardy. Or, if you want to compare Cussler to Steinbeck's contemporaries, use Woolf, Eliot, Faulkner.
Basically, compare him to a real Master; Anyone but Steinbeck.
No way that Steinbeck is equal to Faulkner, I agree...but is Steinbeck among top 10 u.s. writers of all times, yes...and that is not one weak line up either...it might not be as strong as French or Russian literature , but it is hell of a climb... plus, East of Eden is a full force masterpiece...I just hate to see these blueprinters and golfers , writing garbage novels as Cussler , Koontz or Patterson do and engineering one false litarary style on basis of their garbage..thats all
Agreed, I have only read stienbeck's "the pearl" and I will say that it did seem that that way. If your going to compare cussler to someone, try Jules verne, or Tom clancy

Cussler is like Michael Crichton. Both of them report their real life discoveries in the form of fiction and make money out of it.

cussler's books aren't supposed to set a new bar for literary excellence, they're just supposed to be an awesome, high thrill adventure
just read one and see how hard it is to put one down
