Awesome commercial..I remember it well, as well as another version that was animated differently, and at the end, the kids were sailing in New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty waved at them as they passed, and then it turned into a Tootsie Roll Bar at the top of the screen. Can anyone find that and post it? As for the end, I like those Tootsie Roll packages better instead of the jar full of midgees becuase here the audience can actually see the words Tootsie Roll on the packages.
I hate how young people today keep saying that they miss the 90's or wish they can live in the 70's and 80's. But there was no readily available internet then. No Facebook. No YouTube. I guarantee you that 2 days in the 70's would make you miserable. You wouldn't last!
To kill a mockingbird brought me here. page 257 in this edition: " "Have a chew, Scout." Jem dug into his pocket and extracted a Tootsie Roll. It took a few minutes to work the candy into a comfortable wad inside my jaw." Product placement? I wonder if Harper Lee was payed for that.
This was one of my favorite commercials I'm from the 70's and things were so simple back then We didn't need PS3, Wii, or Xbox we were kids who loved to go out and play and didn't have to worry about stupid things like drive bys. to all the 1970 kids may I say those were the days!!!!!!!
From what I remember, this commercial did in fact play during Saturday morning cartoons at least til the early 90s. It had real longevity power. Then the networks suddenly decided it was too old fashioned and not edgy enough for the new generation. To me, it just as well reminds me of growing up in the 80s, when I saw it all the time.
I'm just going to go ahead & say it...If everything you see in the world looks like a Tootsie Roll to you, consider either getting a Cat Scan, a Lobotomy or complete Psychiatric Care. Either way, Check your head!
They used to play these when I was little, along with the old Coke commercials. :) I still walk around singing this song every once in a while when I'm cleaning and stuff.
Saturday mornings, eating a bowl of apple jacks while watching H.R. Puffinstuff, Josie & The Pussycats, Roadrunner, Bugs, Daffy & the gang, then going outside to ride my bike or my bigwheel. Man, the 70's was the best. Wouldn't trade it for nothing in the world
@sda1225 .. it was good to be a kid in the '70's. My kids would probably be bored out of their heads! I mean, cartoons only on Saturday! the travesty!
neyehhhh I'm not a big fan of bell bottoms, disco, hatch backs and those Brady Bunch looking houses and also avocado green. Course that's just me who is even 30 years of age hah hah. I also like this thing called the internet we have now.
This reminds me of Saturday mornings when I was just a little thing. i think that they aired this for a while back in the 90's as well. I sure miss the simple times. Wow the things that I took for granted. I wish I could just go back for a little bit and savor a few of those moments.
Wow! Does this bring back memories!! (Sniff! Sniff! Tear!) I feel like I'm 8 years old again sitting on the front porch eating a Tootsie Roll with my friends and we're thinking about making a club house!! Kids today don't know what it like to go outside and be creative with their minds. Thanks for the memories
@Idoljunky32 You said it all. those were the days. We would go out side for hours on end being creative and munching on the good stuff like a good old tootise roll.
@Idoljunky32 wait a minute!!!! im young and im creative and play outside like today i pretend that i was an assain fighting this giant barbie head made of choclate...it was a yummy adventure
