Can you show some of your beater strokes slower and closer? Also it would be helpful if you could explain some of the up and down strokes to different rhythms.
You play very well. How long have you been playing? I am a beginner and just received my Bodhran last week.
@n3tuf I'll upload something as soon as I moved to the new Flatshare ! ^^ Advice for Starters: just experiment with the instrument you'll find your own way of playing it and you will also discover what kind of tunes and rhythms you can play just by playing along some irish folk melodies!!!
What do they call this drum in German? Where did you get yours (you said yours is Bavarian?). I'm Irish and German so I'd like to get one of each! Do they traditionally play it with a double-sided beater/tipper? Thanks. I just wish you would slowly show us how you are playing all that! :)
in no way dis-respectful i love how this guy is so easy going, hes amazing at playing it but doesnt realy know anything about it. eg the beaters. ones a trad style the others a top-down version lol
for a Christmas present this year. I'm still still trying to get the wrist action down correctly and i very rhythm oriented.I guess one just has to keep at it till it works!
Kittygables: I used to teach bodhran, but I'm now returning to it after a 15 year lay-off, so this is what I used to teach my students about the basic action. Two things; 1) Stay relaxed while you're learning. If you find you're tightening up,slow down to a comfortable speed. Your muscles need to learn how to do this in a relaxed way, so that's how you should learn it. The speed will come later. 2) learn to play perfect even triplets continuously...then learn to take particular beats OUT.
The Bodhran is made by the bavarian bodhran maker Christian Hedwitschak. Its one of his Light Line Deep variety, its a good intermediate to professional level bodhran, I just bought one myself about a month ago. You can look up a vid on here of Eamon Murray playing the same bodhran, just the small 12" version.
planewalker..i'm just learning as well, and irishkanuck was the first vid i watched.i'd dig seein more of you..the tuneable bodhran is interesting.keep it up..i hope to improve as well..be well..
Hey Planeswalker (i actually know UR real name^^),
it's aq nice vid u've made, I like it and I also like the way U playing or handling the music instrument (i don't know the name) but it makes cool sounds!!
We actually could summon a meeting to make soundtracks for our Co-Ops......U play your drums, Snake on the piano and me playing e-acoustic-guitar......I guess it would be a great and funny day, and the soundtracks will also be great^^.....
You've really made me happy that i can help so much!! you sound awesome lad, keep up the good work. It seems like an awesome bodhran u have there. I personally like the bars in the back, but thats just personal preference haha!
Thank you Planeswalker555.
