  • jesus christ, ive just found one nice sts for sale , and i started thinking about buying it, but damn, i just came across its fwd. how could it possibly be ???? :(

  • @dogassedugly can't be done unfortunately. they manufactured 3 models one cut off at 111 one at 131 and one at 151.... fucking odbii

  • sounds damn good

  • The Northstar is the second better sounding engine in the history after the LS9 of Corvette ZR1.

  • Man I just love the famous growl of the N* they are truly one of a kind. I have a 96 aurora, and looking into getting a 99 or 98 STS.

  • What year? and what, may i ask, is the "butt-plug" mod?

  • @94EglVisionTSI

It's a 1999. The butt-plug mod, is the removal of the upper resonator chamber from the factory air intake, and plugging the hole with something. I used a spray paint lid. There is also lower chamber down under the air box, that needs removed as well. That's where the real gains will come from.

  • dat shit will ride i luv lacs sts and dts only

  • is this a good first car?

  • i would so no because you would be spoiled by the luxury, accelleration, and style of this car lol

  • ha they aren't even that expensive.

  • They're reliable as hell, decent gas mileage, cheap insurance, rust proof as far as I can tell, and is fine for driving in the winter (front wheel drive), so I don't see why not.

  • Mine's a 93 model, and I live by the beach. It's pretty rusted, but nothing I can't fix.

The parts where I live cost tripple and are so rare I can find more at a junk yard than a dealer.

I've had it since I was 2, my dad destroyed it and now I'm rebuilding it haha

  • Here in MN, I never see rusted 1998 or newer Cadillac Seville's. Or probably anything from that year by Cadillac even..

  • their expensive to repaire, thats about it

  • 69thepizzaboy -

i got my 98 Seville STS a year ago and it is my 1st car

i say yes it is a good 1st car

but i must say... Mr.Doug1bite is completely right

  • yes it is if u got afford to drive with it. Very nice car though it's fwd

  • I might say I love Cadillac. Sounds so great. Looks so awesome. I do prefer the older models, however these recent ones are good too.

Seville always was my favourite, after 50's Eldorados. :D

  • dam amazing pick up speed

  • drop it into 2nd (if auto) you will see a much better acceleration and then once you have it going around 50mph shift into 3rd, you will see the gain of speed x10

  • i love the way it chirps its tires,is it front wheel drive?

  • Thanks. Yes it is FWD. It also has GXP 18" rims with 255/45 BFGoodrich g-Force KDW tires.

  • i love the growl of the v8 and the 1999 caddy seville body styles better than my '98 park av ultra, but i like the gas milage and zippyness of the supercharger a lil better.

  • Thanks! The airbox is opened up just a touch, I hacked off the bottom resonator chamber and did the 'butt-plug' mod.

  • that engine well broken in that mofo growling..i got a 97 sls pushed to 120 in traffic i love a caddy..i gotta new fuel pump fwd gets down even better now

  • 1999

  • Don't be afraid to toss up a vid, hot rod.....

  • you are out of gas ...

see this video again and see the gas meter ..

  • HEY YOUR ALMOST OUT OF GAS.LOL

  • Like 6.4 secs to get to 60 mph. Nice.

  • i gota go with american when it comes to cars. cadillacs are great cars i own an 89 seville and ill be honest ive dogged that car quite a bit...... most of my friends have little civics.... they dog thier cars as much or less then me... hence why they are not driving them right now, didnt hold up

  • GM baby

  • cadillac sts are fucking fast

it will raped any turner thats not push over 400 horse

  • accident...

  • buy honda's support another country.. Let America go into recession and feed another country..lets not support our economy over here. lets buy a car suited for a girl... oh thats right most of you honda drivers are 110 pound sissys. try crashing into one of these fags honda with our big cadillac's and then see whos still talkin.... was in a 75 mph freeway in a cadillac... walked away without scratches...

  • hit a gaurdrail at 110 in my 98 grand marquis

    rolled 4 times

broken arm and 30 stiches....if i was in a civic i woulda been dead

    us all the way

  • I agree with you about the cars and I cant stand hondas either but tone it down a little man, you dont need call honda owners fags, your type are the reason why every one else hates us Americans and thinks were all rednecks.

  • finally someone with some sense...i like GM's alot because you get alot of power and alot of car for a low price even though the interior quality is shitty but w/e...but i'm with germany when it comes to cars

  • yeah german cars are clearly the best cars around, to bad there so expensive.

  • there is no such thing as cheap and good lol...it's the money you pay that covers the quality

  • damn! over 80 in second gear! at peak rpm

  • i have metal feet,my poor poor cars

  • this cadillac is equal 2 my 1995 oldsmobile aurora in acceleration

  • I would give it to the drag strip ASAP then as it would be the fastest Aurora yet.

  • YEa HONDA SUCKS SUPER BAD......

and the guy that likes them

is pretty much a fag....... V8 Aurora 99'

  • last I heard they still make hondas, you cant say that about your pos oldsmobile!!!

  • Nice. Northstar Powerplants Rock. I don't care what anyone says. Oh and andytaurus, My honda required an engine AND transmission before 200,000 miles. My N* powered Aurora, NOTHING... for 232K miles.

  • well explain to me why honda is now the best car company for reliability if you dont believe me just search it

  • id pick the caddilac ANY day over a Honda. Big Northstar v8 , great interior room + legendary "Caddy Comfort" , and then in the end getting close to 25mpg+

  • or you could pay a lot less and get the honda that gets 38+mpg and will go 200,000+ miles with little to no problems.

  • Eh, there's so much more to life, then driving a tin can Honda, from point A to point B. Driving is a privilege, make the most of it.

  • yeah ... that all sounds good in the end with the fuel mileage , and this sounds kind of weird and ironic, but I wouldnt want to die with a honda ( yes they'll last a LONG time ) . Since I do have the money , ill be getting a nice car that is very comfortable.. i.e a Cadillac.

  • Is getting 38+mpg worth looking like a fag. I'll take the v8 any day of the week.

  • your the one that would look like a fag driving a car made by a car company that isnt even around anymore, honda has a lot better reputation than olsmobile.

  • Well, Andy, point # 1 is thats because this country is full of wussy little hippies that are only concerned about mileage. Point # 2 is people are stuck in the 1980s when it comes to cars. Back then American cars were not the best of quality.

  • Point # 3 is there are a lot of stupid people out there. Stupid people are sheep and don't have a mind of their own. These people are trendy and do what others do. Monkey say monkey do. A magazine says Honda's are great, so people will buy them because they say so. You see Oldsmobile tried to appeal to the import crowd, the sheep. Remember you can't teach an old dog new tricks. What Olds should have done was bring back muscle cars that made them popular in the 60s-70s. They would have survived.

  • one of the #1 reasons people buy hondas is because of how reliable they are not because a magazine tells them to. and forign cars are still more reliable than american cars.

  • I don't buy it. I see just as much, if not more imports around here needing major repairs by 10 years. Not to mention they do rust much faster than domestics. The worst part of Hondas are their automatic trannys. They cannot take any abuse and are inefficient at putting power down.

  • think what you want but it is a proven FACT that hondas are the most relible carmaker

  • I guess I could be biased because I rate cars by how well they take to abuse. Most Honda buyers are concerned about mileage and value so they tend not to be spirited drivers. Vehicles that are babied last a very long time regardless of make. Hence why Hondas are the most reliable cars. But, alas when those Hondas get in the hands of lead foot kids what happens? Transmissions frag and engines blow because Hondas can't take abuse.

  • what makes you think that they cant take abuse if there built to last??

  • Lead footed kids will rip up a Camaro in about the same way.

There's a difference between a driver who knows what he/she is doing and a leadfoot kid. A good driver knows the limit of the vehicle and just how far to push it. A leadfoot knows nothing of that limit.

And, leadfoot rice boys do a lot of scary crap to their cars (not "scary" as in "it can beat v8 cars," but "scary" as in unsafe/unreliable/incompetently implemented).

  • That said, I drive a Honda Accord and, for a vehicle whose purpose is to provide reliable transportation, it is a very good car. Keep up with the maintenance, and it will get you home.

Now, good maintenance will help any car, but that only applies if the vehicle is designed properly. If you've ever owned a Ford Taurus, then you may be familiar with transaxles that tend to burn themselves up no matter how well you take care of it unless the design problems causing the overheating are fixed.

  • But, on topic, the Northstar is good, but..

    1. Don't baby it; this causes the piston rings not to break in properly, which allows carbon buildup and also allows the engine to consume more oil than designed. Northstars use an aggressive honing pattern on the cylinder walls for better oil retention to help in high RPM stability, but at the cost of oil (about a quart a month, so use regular oil like Castrol GTX and change the oil according to the service minder on the information center display).

  • 2. There's no such thing as 100k coolant. Dexcool will break down dramatically and cause damage if you don't change it like regular coolant, plus you must properly use GM coolant supplement, part no. 3634621, to prevent leaks in these engines, including head gasket leaks.

    3. Check and maintain your coolant level. Dexcool is not stable in a cooling system that isn't full to capacity. Also, use ONLY a 50/50 mix. And, DO NOT MIX DEXCOOL WITH OTHER COOLANTS!

  • yeah its funny you say that Japanese cars are my least favorite (something about them don't know what) but they can almost all take abuse especially Honda's and Subaru's it because of the regulations for part specs they are much more stringent out to like the 1 millionth American cars go to like the thousandth

  • lol

  • id pick the caddilac ANY day over a Honda. Big Northstar v8 , great interior room + legendary "Caddy Comfort" , and then in the end getting close to 25mpg+

  • ehh. i wouldn't say close to 25+... i get 17mpg in my 2000 SLS on average.

  • i get about 19.4 with mellow driving in mine. But i dropped a k&n panel filter in it, there is a noticeable increase in power though. only $50!

  • :) right...

  • To all the gas guzzling comments:

I use to have a seville SLS before I got my RX8. When you buy a cadillac, it's not because you give a shit about gas mileage. It has class that your hondas can't TOUCH. The refinement inside the cabin of these is ridiculous. I miss mine every day...

Given the choice between getting my caddy back and getting a honda... I'd go with the former any day of the week.

  • I'm kind of uncomfortable calling the Seville a gas guzzler, even though it's a V8.

It gets mileage comparable to V6 cars; it guzzles only if you really push it to extremes when driving.

As for Cadillac, I don't really care for some of their newest lineups except for the XLR: the 2003 Seville STS, being the newest example of the model and available trim, was the definitive Cadillac in terms of style, IMO, and very reliable if you know how to properly maintain them.

  • That said, for a 4 cylinder family sedan, my 2005 Honda Accord LX is pretty darned refined in terms of its drivability and ride; a great balance of smoothness and firmness with a very silky smooth response from the drivetrain for a family sedan, which is one of the reasons why it's popular; I just wish it looked better than it does.

That said, I would not hesitate trading it for a 2003 STS in good condition as it's also a very dependable and underrated car and it just plain looks better.

  • Eh, I get about 17 or 18mpg in mostly city driving. Closer to 13/14mpg if I drive like that and over 25mpg on the highway. I'll take that anyday with everything in the Caddy....

  • do you run regular gas or premium?

  • This depends on the model year.

If it's pre 2000, premium fuel is recommended.

If it's 2000 and up, regular fuel is what you use.

  • haha gota fill up the gas in that guzzler

  • Actually, for a V8, Northstar engines are capable of serviceable economy.

It's not unusual to be able to get close to 30 MPG hi-way with these cars so long as you don't drive aggressively (don't drive in a manner exceeding what's necessary on a public roadway, which is also the law).

OTOH, it's very possible to achieve relatively poor fuel economy with the 2.0L iVTEC if you have bad driving habits.

And, if you use cars for racing, fuel economy doesn't matter with certain types of contests.

  • Northstar engines true get "close" to 30 mpg,on the highway, under pristine conditions. City however is wayyy less as with any V8. My best friends got a black on black 2000 caddy sts and his average mpg (reads on dash) is around 13-15 mpg...MAX

And as for my Accord i get an average of 380 miles to a 14 gallon tank, which equates to 27.142857142857142857142857142857 mpg AVERAGE! and thats with mixed driving (spirited/conservative)

  • That's why I specified highway. City mileage would likely be around 17-18, low 20s if you feather it.

As for your friend's average, his driving habits must be a factor. Jack rabbit starts and excessive speeds will compromise fuel economy.

As for your Accord, I'm not so certain. I average about 24-25 and maintain 28-30 on hi-way with the 2.4L iVTEC on mine. 2006 Civic LX in the fleet maintains best with 38 hi-way and 32-35 mixed with conservative driving.

  • In addition, you can't totally rely on the car's information center to give you accurate data on your fuel economy. It can give you an idea, but it doesn't compare to calculating miles traveled versus fuel consumed at the pump.

  • 1997 Honda Accord Ex Coupe 2.2 Vtec, With a 5 speed trany, consistently gets 30mpg+ avg overall, with average driving. Because of some of the modds on my car, i actually have slightly lower mpg than average. Contrary to your beliefs.

  • Well, the reason for my slightly lower MPG is my car likely has a higher curb weight as a 2005 model, uses an automatic transaxle as opposed to a manual, and the engine has slightly larger displacement.

  • whoopi shit, my BMW 535d gets 40mpg on the motorway and 29 city for a combined avg of 36 mpg. Not to mention the blistering torque and hearty 168mph top speed.

  • Not surprising that your BMW 535D can get good MPG.

Diesel engines are more efficient than gas engines, though the redline is low.

As for top speed and torque, that only applies if you drive it to take advantage of those benefits. Otherwise, to attain the MPG you claim, you're likely driving to your instant MPG gauge.

Plus, not everyone can afford a 535D in terms of ownership and service costs, which is why there's Honda: for people more concerned about getting around than being a snob.

  • That's because the moron never reset it from day one. He had gotten from the last time someone hit the reset button a total of 15 combined mpg highway and city. Which by the way is not bad for a car this size, power, and considering it doesn't run on premium like its competitors. Do your homework before you spew idiotic info cloaked as something else.

  • Here are some questions for you as I am thinking about getting a 2000 STS.

What is the rpm in top gear at about 100mph?

What is the rpm in top gear at about 120mph?

What will it do, top speed wise? Just how bad is the fuel consumption? Since I am in the UK we have to pay £1 for a litre! Thanks!

  • Do you know if it was imported or it's a geniune european Cadillac STS? (Imported by Cadillac and not some third-party type deal) Also is it left or right hand drive?

US cars are limited to 135mph and exported cars are ungovered, I believe, you'll see around 155mph'ish. At 120mph, crusing rpms are about 4000rpm I think (been away since I've gone that fast lol).

  • It is a proper UK model, supplied by GM UK. Right hand drive.

    155mph that's pretty good!

  • STS's in the US are drag limited to around 155 MPH, you need to look at the sticker on the driver side door jamb the speed rating of the tires from the factory is what the car is limited to. Most STS's sold in the US came with Z rated tires hence no governor.

  • Eh, there seems to be somewhat of a mix. Before buying my STS I drove a number of cars. While the LS V8 was definitely the slowest, heck I think my old 1995 Olds Aurora was much faster lol, the two Conti's weren't bad. I wouldn't say they're faster then my STS (which was the fastest Seville I drove). I think the longer gears give the Conti an impression it's quicker. The Intech doesn't have that same "rip" through the rpms. The N* just seems to love charging full speed towards red line.

  • Again, not to keep stuff going, but I currently drive a 2000 Continental and I have driven at least three Northstars (Deville and STS) and my Lincoln is a little beefier. I also have a 2003 LS V8 and there is not competition with the older Deville's, now put up a CTS-V or brand new STS and it would be nice.

  • That's ehh a retarted comment, it's like saying a Z06 would rape and R32 and eat it's babies. It's like comparing apples to oranges, Cadillac Seville STS is a fast car for it being a 4000lb luxury vehicle.

  • It's my fault. I posted this over on a R32 board. I raced my buddies R32 at the drag strip and I wanted to know before-hand what I was up against. Turns out fair competition, I lost by 2 tenths, though trapped a ridiculous mph (3mph higher). I had terrible traction at launch due to greasy track conditions.

  • no way no how

a Conti will not take a Seville TS

  • I think my 01 Continental has the better edge. I reached about 50MPH without hitting 6000 RPM. I Always thought the Seville was quicker but after I saw this that has changed. What do you think? Check out my 2001 Continental Really Puched vid. I took it to 120 MPH.

  • Hmmm, no my money's still on my STS. ;-) STS's come with 3.71 gears vs. 3.21 (I belive?) on your Conti so that would explain the RPM difference. After about 75/80mph the N* really wakes up, I just quit too early (turn coming up). Though I saw your 01 wasn't a slouch up top either.

  • Nope, just stock exhaust ;-) I did hack up the intake though which is what your hearing. Plugged the upper resonator box, and sawed the lower part just after the fender seam with a K&N filter. I would love a Corsa though...

  • corsa?
