We're talking about ankyloglossia by the way, the actual term for it. It may or may not affect speech but it might do like lovecanbemagic said and keep him from having tongue dexterity. You never realize how much your tongue does like getting popcorn and stuff out of your back teeth. He also might have problems saying a few words. But that will be completely unrelated to stuttering. Maybe it's best to wait until his speech and dexterity can be diagnosed.
BTW, it's not a rough surgery. I'm waiting to hear back from a prof of mine to find out if once it's diagnosed by a SLP if at that point it's eligible for insurance!
If JJ was 100% or 95%, no doubt I wouldn't be asking this question. His is only 75%, so there is room for error, but does he have problems speaking???? that's the problem I have. I can't tell if he has problems b/c he's only 1, and only says dada and bye bye
oh just one more comment lol! if my fiance would go to get his cut now, they would consider it a cosmetic surgery and would not be payed for through insurance! so of course we cant get it done! we cant afford it!
my fiance wishes his mom would have got it cut because now he has teeth problems because he cant reach the back of his mouth with his teeth to clean them (you know what i mean?) like when we are out to eat and stuff!he actually just had one tooth pulled 2 days ago! but he cant stick his tounge out all the way and he hates it! he told me he has a fetish for tounges, he likes to look at them when people are talking and singing because he wants his tounge to be like theres! he would say do it!!
my fiance is 95% tounge tied! he has nothing wrong with his speach but really wishes that his mother would have got it cut! i also have a friend whos son had it and they got it cut and everything was fine! they cut it, it healed up real fast and she said he loved it, that they walked out of the doctors office with him playing with his tounge, sticking it out and stuff :) but now since my fiance is 27 it will be more painful for him to get it fixed!if it were my daughter i would do it! good luck!

3 of my cousins had their tongues clipped and they were totally fine and everything is fine but I dont know what percentage they were tied.
