Shutter sound comparison - Alphas 100, 700 and 900

The camera was designed in 2007-2008, before the DSLR video craze. If you want a DSLR capable of videos, check out Sony A55,A65 or A77.

When the A900 was released high end DSLRs did not have video, including the D3. Some of them still don't offer video.

Did you get started in photography an hour ago? Or was it less than that? You know nothing about cameras or their feature history.

@oceanistoosmall The mirror is bigger than on the A700, I'm guessing that's why it has a heavier sound. A900 has a 35mm sensor (full frame) and 100% view in the optical view finder. It is a beautiful camera.

There seems to be a lot of fuss about silent shutters these days with the advent of slt cameras and the mirrorless systems but I like the shutter noise, especially on my a700.

It's a bit of a strange satisfaction that we get from a definite clunk of the shutter or the click of a switch that electronic shutters and touch screens just don't give us.

Oddly enough, the a700 has a much-better sounding shutter than the a900. The a900 sounds like someone hitting a block of wood for some reason.... :-/

@Teraforce88 Probably due to the big ass mirror. :D I agree though, I like A700s sound the most.

A900 doing 5fps is pretty amazing though.. 5 frames per second at 25 megapixels.

@GATFOCT It's not that they're cheaper, they just came out first. Heck... I use my a100 as a backup for my a700 all the time, great picture quality ya know.

@BlackAzzRobb I guess that's what a meant, but with respect to price or quality, I do have to say they're cheaper. I've used both the 100 and 300 (but not the 700), and I'm not happy with them. Since I only do photography as a hobby for now, I'm sticking with the a300, but when in business, I will have to move to Canon or Nikon
