Folks, remember, Richie Furay and Stephen Stills were the genesis of Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young coming aboard later, and thus the country rock sound that continues to this day.
Wonderful video of some of Richie's early stuff.....
JohnNorthWillys....you are such an ASS...I sincerely hope you make it back to this siteto read this ...YOU obviously are not from this era of music...OR you are a pedophile...go find you some other place for your profanity! Do I have to come right out and say it how great Buffalo Springfield was? I like the B Springfield versions on the first two songs better but on Clancy I like this live set about as much as B Springfield. Love that guitar.
the centerpiece of my mantle is the Buffalo Springfield face plate from an old steam roller. This is testimony to the greatest rock and roll band ever.
All due respect to the great Steve Still and Neil oung, but Richie was the rock center of the Buffalo. He was the main singer and held the middle of the music together beautifully. Such a generous and givnig musician. Without richie the band would have been even shorter lived....From " the first day with "Clancy" all the way to the end with "Kind Woman" it was Richie, quietly bringing it all home. Dont get me started on Richie as a live performer, he was the very life of the band onstage
Vhent to a show down in Tejas way bak dere in 1973 and aside from Trett Furey (Sneaky Pete Kleinow did Sideman duties) after her Poco slid out and let Rusty Young and Paul Cotton loose. By the third act, Terrie and I went down Riverwalk ended up in Kelly's Pub. Psolocibin does that to ya...Poco is an All Merkin' Bayund, and I felt pretty spun out after the set (San Antone Muni Auditorium
Wow, thanks so much for posting this, I lost track of Richie after all these years, loved Poco. I was a freshman in college when Buffalo Springfield were in their prime, played that first album till it disintergrated. Been a die hard Neil fan since but just realized it was Richie that sang these songs. He still soungs great, see what clean living will do for you.
Richie still sounds good. Never saw Springfield, but did see Poco at The Troubadour a few decades back. I'll take the position that he sang just as fine back then. "First Love" from Pickin' Up The Pieces is a classic vocal. I hope there's some video of him singing that one live.
Richie still has the great voice ! I'm so glad he's a Christian like Roger MacGuinn of the Byrds..Drug and alcohol free !! So many 60's rock stars are dead or burned out.
For Drums i'm sure Stephen and Neil would want Joe Vitale to drum for them. If Jim Messina said no to playing bass then i would suggest either Randy Miesner or Rick Rosas.
Wow. I mean, wow. This is just gorgeous. These are probably three of my favorite songs in the whole world, and certainly three of Buffalo's best--and this is by far the best version I've heard of any of them, particularly "Clancy." THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this!!!!
I don't know, I saw CSN in London not long ago and they were all incredible. Stills especially, his guitar and harmonies just filled the venue. Great gig, they played one of my fave Dylan tracks, buffalo springfield stuff and a bunch of other gems from their era.
Richie sounds great! I miss Buffalo Springfield and Poco. Wouldn't that be something to see a Springfield reunion? Could it happen? I'm glad Richie is happy. What a sweet voice!
@TheMarko55 Neil's song "Buffalo Springfield Again" kind of makes you think a "reunion" would be possible of the conditions were right, but with him in particular, that's a very "iffy" thing. The real problem is that Bruce Palmer and Dewey Martin are dead, so someone familiar with the Springfield catelogue would have to be found to play drums, but maybe Jim Messina would consent to play bass as he did in Springfield's last studio offering.
I have been in music for over 40 years. This brought me to tears. Furay's voice singing these songs kills me. I am so pissed I missed him at Copper Mountain this past summer.
I saw Richie about 10 years ago in a church in West haven, Connecticut. He played with another guy that sang and played a variety of instruments while Richie sang and played guitar. They were great. Even the Jesus songs were great, and I'm an atheist.. Richie talked to anyone that approached him and autographed my copy of "Good Feeling To Know". This new band is killer, I hope Stephen and Neil see this and take another stab at a re-union. Thanks for posting this...
ritchy you are a rock and roll/country christian hero inspiration ..praise jesus for sharing you with us today.and thank you for the greatest musical influences in my life......amen!
The Buffalo Springfield was such a great group!! So much talent. Wonderful to hear Richie singing these old chestnuts. A great performer and a super-nice guy, too. Thx for posting this one!!
I'm glad that you like Richie but I think you are really misguided on thinking he sounded better when he was younger. Not so. He has a better mature sounding voice that can hold a note much better than when he was younger.
This same medley is on Richie's live CD ALIVE which is an EXCELLENT CD. The girl singer is Richie's daughter Jesse Furay Lynch. I saw them New Year's Eve in Boulder and they did a great show, about 2 - 2 1/2 hours and I still wanted more. I listen to at least part of the CD evry day.
This is just brilliant. I always thought that Neil Young's songs on Buffalo Springfield's debut were some of his best. And if he doesn't play them (which he doesn't) the next best thing (or as good) is Richie Furay.
His voice is still brilliant, the backing group is great particularly the guitar player. I also liked the vocal harmonies by the girl.
I really would have liked Neil to sing "Clancy" on the Buffalo Springfield album, nonetheless a unique post and a great performance by Furay. I like to hear Richie how it sings it nowadays and his own take of the Springfield.

Too bad Richie doesn't have the voice he had in 1967. Singing Young's masterpiece from Buffalo Springfield's first album still sounds great.
