  • And all that done in one take! We rarely see skill like this any more. Memories of my Father listening to this. 'And so's your old man!' hehe. Great stuff!

  • @Fadeypoo What makes you think it was done in one take?

  • @Gamer2k4 Well, the number was pre-recorded (not in one take) and he lip synced the whole number during filming, in one go. If you search 'tony awards music man' you will see.

  • And here we have the white version of Busta Ryhmes.

  • dude...O.O...this guy is like...mass manipulator...damn. Wish I had those kinds of skillz.

  • conan emmy reddit heyooo

  • i gotta give him props, hes majorly persuasive

  • Yea, now there's trouble in River City.

  • we-e-e-ell youve got trouble, my friend.

  • THANKS, I NEED TO MEMORIZE THIS!!!!!

  • I can't not hear him say "horse sex" at 1:08.

  • Charlie Cowell: "Then he organizes the kids into a band with himself as the Leader."

Salesman 1: "Well, what's wrong with that?"

Charlie Cowell: "HE DON'T KNOW ONE NOTE...FROM ANOTHER! THAT'S WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT! He don't know a bass drum from a pipe organ. He's a bare faced, double shuffle two bit thimble rigger!"

  • I swear I saw this at the Iowa State Fair before the Ames Straw Poll...

  • I like the fact that he's such a good con artist that he has them believing that a pool table is going to cause all kinds of trouble for their children. Normally a person wouldn't believe that, but he explains it in a way that anyone could believe it haha

  • @desertroses19 ..that's the truth! LOOL!!

  • Prof. Hill = the first Foxnews

  • One of my favs love this movie

  • beautiful!!

  • A regular Artie Gillman performance perpetuates the genius of this legendary act!

  • I love Music Man so much.

  • This is outstanding, they never should have remade this with Matthew Broderick. It robs everybody today of the best perfrmance.

  • @50sniffies Broderick was COMPLETELY out of his league! His was a half ass performance. Robert Preston would have spun in his grave if he hadn't been cremated. I saw "The Music Man" in its first run during the early 1960's.

If you want to see how it's done, you can rent the entire movie right here on You Tube.

  • @CaptKundalini ah...oh I love the old Musicals....those guys and gals had talent. Dancing, Singing, Acting,

    and DEM FACES!!! XD

  • wow the 60's was a sheltered time.

  • @blood9797 Are you stupid? This obviously doesn't take place in 1960- it's 1912.

  • @wasp9 i'm talking about when the movie was made

  • Ahaa and so's your old man!

  • With a capital T

    And that rhymes with P

    And that stands for Pool!

  • 5 people like pool

  • 5 people like playing games with 15 numbered balls...

  • Sounds frighteningly similar to Francis E. Dec.

  • Ah oh ragtime.

  • @EmilyElle

    No, are you retarded?

  • @7waffle No. I thought people would realize I was kidding. Guess not. I'll go back to not commenting on Youtube videos. It's wiser.

  • I hear those things are awfully loud!

  • This song is so good.

  • Best rapper ever.

  • @higrack Definitely, that's the first thing that jumped into my head. These days this would be comparable to an underground flow.

  • i don't really know what i just watched but this is awesome

  • Oh Republicans, you so silly.

  • They outlawed marijuana shortly thereafter.

  • O I saw this in music theory ha

  • democracy FTL

  • @malditonuke

To be honest, I'd far rather democracy that's representative of the population.

It's rather aggrivating how small states, particularly rural states get dramatically more political power than is justified by their size of their geography/population.

Kinda makes me wish we had a Parliament instead.

  • @greyflcn the amount of representatives is decided population, I'm either not understanding you correctly or you're not understanding the constitution correctly.

  • @BabyrapeMcmethlab

    Senate.

California, New York, and Texas each get 2 Senate Representatives.

Delaware, Vermont, and New Hampshire each get 2 Senate Representatives.

A Parliament on the other hand would be similar to as if we got rid of the Senate.

  • @greyflcn

House of Representatives Is based on population. There are two houses of Congress one the House of Reps the other the Senate. And Without having the Senate the smaller states would have never adopted the Constitution so you should be happy that we have the Senate.

  • @1mastasmt

Perhaps. However one also has to consider that we aren't living in the 1700's anymore.

And we've got some seriously dysfunctional law practices because of it.

Just kinda feels like, "Be happy you were born a cripple"

  • monorail...monorail..monorail...

  • "Words like.... SWELL!" Heaven forbid!

  • 2:14 The youth is looking up to his parents but all they do is look down upon him.

  • If you want to hear some serious flow, listen to the instrumental of Aesop Rock's "None Shall Pass" in the background. Mind = blown.

  • FRITTERING!

  • Reddit made my house explode ):

  • Reddit gave me a virus! Don't go there

  • @EldMage did reddit give you a virus or were you clicking on porn links?

  • @M2drix Reddit gave me a virus.

  • @EldMage dumb shit

  • @EldMage can you elaborate? Reddit is a site that displays links and text in forum format. If you got a virus you clicked on a link you shouldnt have, or most likely you were being stupid on your computer and blaming your ignorance on reddit.

  • @M2drix Google "Reddit gave me a virus", Sherlock.

  • THE LAST STAR FIGHTER!

  • Reminds me of a Tea party rally. :/

  • VIDYA GAMES!!

  • Last Star fighter

  • The Last Starfighter

  • "the idle mind is a devil's playground"

this due basically wants people to be distracted and not to think for themselves.

How brilliant old cinema was. Fuck all these new shit movies with rough and tough bad ass dudes killing everyone for the truth and to save that one hot babe. It worked in super mario, but mario was awesome and was imaginative all these new movies have the same jason stathem esque actor and the same premise... no imagination. Ugh!

  • Frittering is my favorite pastime.

  • 'Shameless Music' oh the good old days.

  • I love this movie! My friend Billy is playing Harold Hill for our musical version of it, and he almost is exactly like him with this song. It's freaky but so awesome! xD

  • monorail!

  • this is white people rapping

  • i really cannot WAIT to perform this in our school musical gonna be heaps of fun even if im only in the crowd :)

  • I played Winthrop Paroo in this back in 1973. I was in eighth grade, and the gal that played Amaryllis was a senior. What a fun show. I would love to do it again! This movie is still one of my favorites.

  • the first rap song in history... :P

  • Robert Preston IS Prof. Harold Hill.

  • @beatnik146 The cadences of "Trouble in River City" defeat most performers who attempt it. Only Robert Preston could actually do it right.

  • Change "boys' to "smoking" and it ALL makes sense!!!!! They made up that trouble too! But it's selling the heck out of Nicotine replacement for Johnson and Johnson!

  • Robert Preston, the original white rapper

  • ok you geeks just...quizz

  • right out of obamas play book

we go trouble and it's health care and we have to fix it

    yes we got trouble

  • @fjordking don't criticize black jesus!!!

  • This is a great movie. I should tell my school to consider doing this.

  • "With a capital T"

  • my school finished performing this last week.

  • great song

  • I love how he raises his hands and everyone throws their hands p. My school performed this once, and the throwing up the hands was hilarious.

  • Not jokes from Capt. Billy's Whiz Bang!

  • Ah! I live in River City (Mason City) !!! We have an amazing museum dedicated to Meredith Wilson and this movie!

  • If anybody wants to get into serious acting. Learn this song. If you can master it. you have a chance.

  • Ignorant gullible suckers believing someone who has engineered a threat.

  • Favorite musical. easily

  • Of all the great stage performances that actually got to be recreated on film by the original performer this has to rank with Rex Harrison in my fair lady and Yul Brynner in the King and I as the very best. We are so lucky that he actually got to do the film, cause no one could play Harold Hill like he could.

  • I read somewhere that the studio originally didn't want Preston to do Hill in the movie. Thankfully Meredith Wilson (the author) said that if there is no Preston, there is no movie.

  • Yeah, Sinatra wanted to play Hill. Preston was one of a kind. He was great in dramas like All The Way Home and The Dark At The Top Of The Stairs.

  • at my (middle school) one of the 8th grade boys that everyone (including me) has a crush on performed this song and it was awesome. now i cant stop listening to it

  • @gabrielknock

What the fuck are you doing commenting in a Music Man video about fucking Obama?

  • Comment removed

  • What, they don't curse in Texas? What are you doing commenting on a month old comment anyway? Don't you have a wheat harvest to tend to or something?

  • Comment removed

  • lol I'm giving you a thumbs up. Awesome connection :)

  • my mom was in this play at her school :)

  • Anyone know where I can find the lyrics? I tried google, but just came up w/ a bunch of videos... I need to memorize this for a school project in chorus.

  • Look into the Singer's Musical Theater Anthology series for Baritone/Bass. I think it's in the volume 4 edition. It also has the CD available.

  • im 11 and i love this song! =3

  • i remember the bush campAin of 2004.

  • bush did this same song and dance when he got re-elected. well at least he was born in the states.weve got trouble here in river city.

  • Aaaaand let's hurry that on down the page.

Yay Music Man! I am working on memorizing this just for kicks.

  • How sad you to clowns are ranting away about politics under a neat song from a great show. Besides, "Trouble in River City" is more closely aligned with McCain: "My friends...", doncha think?

So what era is the Music Man from? 1920's? Earlier? How fun, I wish I had the DVD of this show. They dont even show musicals on TV much anymore. Much rather watch a fun movie full of tunes then any reality BS (or spew politics in an OT message board)

  • Sounds like McCain? "Trouble! Economic disaster! We need CHANGE!"

  • The story takes place in 1912.

  • Actually, I think the fact that this song does have so many parallels to the sleazy way politicians sell totally baseless ideas on the public is part of what makes this show so brilliant.

The great thing, for me, about "The Music Man" is in it's simplicity. Lots of stories try to be this perfectly told, and most of them fail. The Music Man is truly a gem of musical theater. It gets everything right.

  • much less double talk like Professor Harold Hill

  • Americans have been easy dupes for flim-flam men for years and years, and that's one of Music Man's themes. No American Presidential candidate recently has been free of double talk. Americans can't handle the truth, as Jimmy Carter learned after warning about conserving energy back in the late 1970's. If he'd blamed the other party for hiding a bottomless fountain of oil in Alaska and promised to "liberate" the Iranians, he'd have won a landslide re-election. If you disagree, ask non-Americans.

  • Professor George W. Bush singing Yes We Got Trouble, over there in Baghdad City . . Dick Cheney must be familiar with this film and with P.T. Barnum's line "There's a sucker born every minute."

  • Sounds more like Barack Obama, George Bush couldn't form a complete sentence.

  • True enough, BAhern63, but the Mighty Boosh was the one to get the marching started, despite having no more knowledge than Professor Harold Hill had in his "think method." My think method tells me that both men only knew how to hoodwink the gullible. About Obama-or McCain-we'll have to wait and see. I'll be relieved if we get through Boosh's eight years without a "nook-yoo-ler" catastrophe.

  • This is just sad. Total obsession. Are the rpesidents stalker ? How else could you form a connection between "TEH EBIL BOOSH HE DIDI IT ALL BOOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and the music man?

  • Cypher451, I suppose you were one of those dumb-assed Americans who voted for Boosh and didn't care that there were no deadly WOMDs aimed at you. My point is that both men thrived on the gullibility of Americans. Look at the condition the USA is in after 8 years of Bush and tell me he deserved any support in 2000 and 2004. The Music Man was funny; Bush took a great country and wrecked it. What's sad is that anyone would defend Bush, especially in such poorly written English as yours.

  • I never voted for him. I just find it interesting that people suffering from BDS can turn anything into to a Bush rant. By the way, Who ever said there were wmd's pointed at us? iirc the arguement was that saddam could give them to terrorists. Also if you want to be involved with an arguement atleast get all the info so you don'e look like a complete retard. Go and google the congress's declaration of hostilities. you will see that the WMD was simply one small part of many reasons.

  • In case you hadn't noticed, the Bush Presidency has been disastrous for the US. Historians already expect him to be judged the nation's worst-ever, but according to you that's a trivial thing. The Bush Administration initiated the hostilities. Congress rolled over for him, but the buck stops with Bush-Cheney. I don't need you to tell what happened; I was in the US and remember Powell's speech. If you don't want to look like a complete retard, learn to spell; then move on to adult logic.

  • ah yes the good ol' deflection. Don't even adress the arguement just try to change it when you are wrong.

  • Ah yes Cyber451, the vague insults about . . . whatever. Here's one discussion that illustrates why the American education system is in such sad shape. You obviously have more time to waste than I do. Try getting more sleep and more fiber in your diet.

  • you still seem incapable of making an attempt to argue against what i said. So, in case you must read it again, Look up the document that congress authorized. you might learn something.

  • If you have a point to make, make it. Not all of us have time to waste in ambiguous debates about whatever. Otherwise, add more roughage to your diet or track down your father and tell him what is bothering you.

  • My point was that we have people with extreme obsession with the pres. It is really sad. They say he lied yet have no evidence. Then they say "go eat roughage and talk to your dad" and think that is a rebuttal. Why don't you just admit you have nothing to defend what you have said.

  • Bush has been the worst President ever and you can't even spell, much less discuss politics intelligently. America is tired of Bush and I'm tired of wasting my time with a half-wit like you, when I can "obsess" about the so-called leader of the free world instead. You are both part of the same plague of dumbing-down.

  • AH yes, i am the half wit yet you are still deflecting and refusing adress my earlier response. I guess your BDS is terminal. Good luck in fighting your illness. I do however agree with the country being tired of The Pres. I happen to agree. He has lost his spine in recent years.

  • Good to hear that you are as obsessed with our lame President as you are with me.

  • can someone post the whole movie because i've never seen it

  • then you have never truly lived

you must for the love of god, satan, and all other worldy powers see this!!!!!!!!!!

  • I agre, it's wonderful!

    Funny, clever, and a musical!

  • check the public library for "The Music Man"
