it sucked when they used this song for a car commercial and it sucks that you've used it now. Sailing hasn't changed, the arena has. and its simply a desparate bid to make people give a shit about a sport for the upper-crust people like you who ruined our economy. This is the equivalent of some jerkoff spreading tacks on a nascar track to hurry up and get to the crashes.
It really pisses me off when i hear bad commentators because they sound so novice.the reason for that is i am an Optimist sailor and I'm representing New Zealand in the worlds this year so i have enough experience to know whats going on.I'v also had a ride on ETNZs and skippered BMW's AC45 which really made me understand what its like.Just makes me feel like a baby with those novices talking. Obviously its not like that for people who don't know much about sailing.
Fast boats? Undeniably. But it'll be for poor match racing when the 2nd place boat can't blanket the 1st place boat because the boats are moving faster than the wind. It may be boring, but bring back the Cup Races on the old J Boats. Then we'll find out who the true sailors are. (also, with the amount of money going into this cup, you'd think that they'd have HD videos, at least.)
This is one of the problems with sailing. It discourages average people by being full of its self and embracing needless technological innovation. It is great that we can now build foiling boats that can push the 50 knot mark but why do we need to push this down peoples throats? If sailing continues to leave its more simple roots where any one can learn to sail on a simple boat in a matter of days then the sport will die. I say this as a US sailing instructor and a boat dealer.
@JacobSKeck Your attitude is the problem with sailing in North America. In France and Holland, where sailing is flourishing, technology is embraced. The establishment thinks sailing has to be slow. First of all, these boats are not going anywhere near 50 knots and they are not foiling. They are usually travelling between 15 knots and 25 knots and can sail in a very wide wind range. They are quick and manueverable, much like a scaled up Formula 18 catamaran, which are sailed by thousands.
@catsailordude what my problem is with sailing in North America is this constant redesigning of boats and new classes which in my opinion is destroying the sport. When i started racing at my club there were 4 classes of boats races. Now we are up to 8 classes and our total number of racers is down. Since i was 15 (i am now 21) i have been repairing old sailboats and reselling them. the vast majority of my buyers are lower middle class families who just want a boat to sail for fun.
@catsailordude I like that as a sport that we are continuing to advance but i feel that we are forcing some of this down the throats of recreational sailors and driving away less affluent sailors with ever increasing boat parts. And honestly is the America's Cup the pinnacle of sailboat racing? It has always been and will always be a few right men fighting for bragging rights. the exception to this seems to be the brief time in 12 meters.
whats the name of the songs in this vid?

IT WILL BE EPIC!
Can't wait for the 72's.
I sail an 1964 designed boat that is as fast as modern day sportboats but this is something else.
Bad to the bone.
