  • 1:08 onwards, goosebumps all over my body.

  • Why did'nt he do that part? That part would have been amazing!!

  • Absolutely phenomenal. I wouldn't even call him a rapper, more like an urban poet. Fucking brilliant.

  • sage can do with more with spoken word and 2 mins than most ppl in the 'game' can do with a milli on the beat and 15 mins to ramble on about nothing... talking to you kanye lol

  • Eyedea is and forever will be my most favorite...But I love sage, blueprint, aesop, cage and kristoff krane, for sure they are all better than the shit out there today, we can all agree on that.

  • Omg this song is so relevant fuck i wish it was longer... it made my ear orgasm and want more :3

  • I love it and I'm not even a rap fan

  • @BlueYoshiGamer

That's okay, the addiction usually starts out around these songs.

  • @DrShakesBALLIN lol - true for me :)

  • @shmuckling

    :P

  • Real Hip Hop is NOT on the radio.

  • same sample as Kanye West - Blame Game?

  • @beeaar01 Uhm... no? Not even close I'd say.

  • @YoungDirtyCwalk what are you talking about? it's obviously the same sample. it's from Aphex Twin - Avil 14th.

  • @beeaar01 maybe not the same sample, but sampled from the same track.

  • TH is that dude!

  • never heard this before 0.O this is an amazing song... I've been bent over the lyrics for like an hour

  • same sample as degrees by c rayz walz, still really good

  • Sage Francis sounds just like Atmosphere. Nearly identical. Lyrics are similar too.

  • @josephjensen81 Atmosphere is different...

  • "By the time i developed the pictures,

They're as blurry as my memory of constant life fixtures"

  • This reminds me of kanye west's Blame GAme...

  • sage francis artist/poet, when i was listening to this it kinda sounded like kanye sampled it for his track called "blame game." maybe, maybe not this is still gold..

  • Sage, Aesop Rock and EL - P are the most inventive hip hop artists..real art.

  • Antonio must not listen to hip hop music EVER, with that comment, and Lauryn Hill lol, is she still alive?

  • Did Sage Francis sample Aphex Twin's "Avril 14th" for the beginning of this?

  • his music makes me feel like i can see the light on a cloudy damn day

  • why is this song only 2 minutes!? grrr.

  • Lyrically nobody can stand next to this guy.

Who else can make a 3 minute song that rhymes about seeing a girl in a cafe (cafe girl)

    So good.

  • wonder why i botherd saving any of your letters there just aged paper (crumble)

One of my fav lines ever !

  • personally i dont even like rap and i know personally sage is the most amazing artist out there

  • " diamonds used to be a girls best friend enslaving black children with that third world gem" lol what song was that from

  • True said..

Check out shawn lov, windchill, nine leaves.

  • Tairy, how could you recommend a bunch of the def jux crew and not mention Aesop Rock?

  • I've got an insecurity box for your mail

Tracing the name on the return adress as if it was made of braille

Pretended it was your finger but careful to not to be breakin a nail

The one that sealed the coffin shut. but When it opened caused a paper trail

But since then I buried your dead sea scrolls

And emptied my head of these old trivial memories that i seem to hold

Now you're a foot note with cement shoes

In case you wonder what that sinking feeling has been ever since I left youuuuuuu

  • Impressive. That is 99% correct. And that's a much, much higher percentage than I expected. Unless you transcribed those lyrics from the CD's lyric booklet. In which case, you missed a couple small words.

  • speachless......I cant think of any words up to par,to desribe what Sage Francis is

  • sage has some of the most refreshing music in a cesspool of horrible overplayed radio rap

  • Nod to this song, it takes you on a fuckin journey. Real heads know

  • The sample of the piano is also done by Doseone.

  • love this beat...... where have i heard it before?

    brad strut!

    thats where !

so is it sage francis' or brad strut's?

  • songs got the sam run as waterline until the end

  • absolutely love the first 1:30 ... after that it's shit to me...

  • Maybe you should realize that he can't make songs for everyone and that the rest isnt for you :)

  • absolutely hate the first 1:30 ... after that this is the shit! (jk - I like the whole thing)

  • @apollyon1 which I find hilarious, as I think 0-1:30 is some of the best hip hop I've heard this decade

  • I can't find my comment now - If it was critical I'm sorry I was probably in a bad mood, I like SF quite a lot. (ps "this decade"! I'll do that about 100 times before the year is out too!)

  • i agree man someone should re post with the last part cut out.....that last part is wack

  • @daisyfromhell look up the lyrics and the last 30 seconds will be significantly more bearable

  • I absolutely love the this track till 1:27, after that its just noise. Wish he would remake this track into a five min pieces carrying on with the same style of the first minute and a half.

  • Yea the later half ruins the song for me I dont even bother listening to it.

  • Admittedly it sounds like "noise" on this youtube audio rip. On the album you can actually hear the words and it's not a distorted mess.

  • This is the same piano from the Outerspace/Vinnie Paz song "Silence" isn't it?

  • yah man hah

  • Sage Francis and Lauryn Hill are the only two artist that I know they put their heart into their music.

and if you didn't know about

Sage Francis - hopeless. I highly recomment it to anyone who is browsing through sage francis

  • You're really missing out then. In hip hop alone there are tons of artists that make music from the heart.

Check out Eyedea, Immortal Technique, Canibus, Atmosphere, The Black Sunn, Blaise B, Brother Ali, Cage, Cunninlynguists, Blackalicious, Gift of Gab, Goodie Mob, Jeru the Damaja, J-Live, Mr. Lif, Binary Star...........just for starters.

  • @TairyHesticles you forgot aesop rock!

  • @TairyHesticles you might wanna add mos def, atcq etc :p

  • @TairyHesticles

eyedea sits mighty as first on the list.

  • @TairyHesticles Canibus :/ I love to listen to everyone you named, but Bis is...so unlyrical nowadays

  • @TairyHesticles Don't forget about El-P and Aesop rock

  • @TairyHesticles you can find just local artists with just a couple hundred views on youtube that deserve the respect sage francis gets too...some olu songs, sappnice, ecomog, macklemore, huey mack, MURS

  • @lemonhead54 Really Tairy? Last time I read one of your comments (the one that's now rated top) I became an underground hip-hop fan. Now I gotta do it all over again?! Thanks! :) ....no really thought, thanks, I'm gonna check each and every one of these names out.

  • @TairyHesticles RIP eyedea, midwest underground hip-hop is the best.

  • @fukinshima I know, I've listened to "Even Shadows Have Shadows" a thousand times and still get the ants, chills and shuckles everytime. It's gotta be the most honest, selfless confession ever writen. RIP...

  • @TairyHesticles he ment good artists only haha.

  • @TairyHesticles this list gave me so much awesome new artists,

    thank you :D

  • sage francis, and immortal technique

  • @havokblader fuck ya! my two favorite artists!!

  • @AntonioAE86

    cheers fucken luv dat shit

  • @AntonioAE86 mainstrem is also good but of course all of sages joints are sick

  • @AntonioAE86 If you like Lauryn Hill, you will LOVE Dessa.

If you like Sage you will love Cecil Otter.

  • @AntonioAE86 Hah you must not know a lot of hip hop artists then.

  • @AntonioAE86 check out Listener

  • Comment removed

  • @AntonioAE86 yes there the ONLY TWO, no one else puts any heart into their music. Ur missing out on a ton of real hip hop if you think thats true. check my page if you want more options. Tairyhesticles has a good list i got some of them on my page plus more. expand you horizons man, because sage is nice, but not the best.

  • @AntonioAE86 check cunninlynguists, they got the soul too!

  • @AntonioAE86 You mustn't know very many artists then...

  • I think this is the first time on youtube when I see this: "Alot of music is personal preference, so we all have some variance in taste" - nobody is arguing and this is so nice :) great attitude. I'm just wondering: how do you interpret this song? How do you see it? English is my 3rd language so I really can't understand all the words & meanings how others do...

  • umm i guess ? but itz an okay song lol :p

  • I can't understand why Sage isn't famed as the most amazing poet of modern times.

  • Because there are artists like Eyedea and Aesop Rock who take that honor before Sage.

Sage is a poetic genius though.

  • i dont disagree with you on alot of things tairy, but me personally and my own personal opinion, sage takes it. Rather its just because it reaches me personally or relates to me more then eyedea and aesop..that may be the case..but as a poet myself..sage is my hero.

Keep up the good work tairy, you help keep real hip hop alive.

  • That's completely understood. Alot of music is personal preference, so we all have some variance in taste.

Thanks for the ups too, I appreciate it!

  • @TairyHesticles I do believe that is the first time I have seen such a gentlemanly discussion on Youtube. I personally believe Eyedea takes the cake, but all artists mentioned are amazing, so let us sit back and enjoy!

  • i set up the stage for sage at rock the bells last year...its how i discovered him, his act blew my mind im a pure rocker but the emotion he invests is unbeileveable... been hooked since cause his message is true...

  • @TairyHesticles what about saul williams? takes the cake any day over anybody you've mentioned in my opinion. regardless, all are brilliant. i am beginning to rediscover saul though, and realizing how little praise he gets for how incredible a writer he is. "talk to strangers" in itself is just......fuck.

  • @TairyHesticles Nah i think sage is probly the most poetic rapper aside from black thought

  • @TairyHesticles aesop is poetic garabage without the poetry. sage is the best poet in music by a long shot

  • @TairyHesticles wow. haha. aiiiiiiiiiiight!

  • Comment removed

  • @TairyHesticles For someone who unrightfully posts all of my songs on youtube you've got a lot of nerve. Don't bother with the "genius" talk. You're a punk.

  • @therealsagefrancis faker sage francis on youtube is "strangefamousrecords"

  • @TairyHesticles aesop is the most famous after him comes sage and then eyedea (R.I.P.) i think it's in that order

  • @TairyHesticles but so is illogic

  • @TairyHesticles Eyedea, I listen to every other rapper and they're amazing.. But there's no other one that touches my soul as Eyedea does.

  • @HypnoseElectrique There is music, and there is eyedea...

  • @glass509 very true

  • @Sabortooftigar

Followed closely by Mr. Buddy Wakefield

  • @Sabortooftigar He's Fat White and Brilliant. They can't force him.

  • anybody seeing this do you know where i can find the instrumental for this song?!?! its so hard to find beats from the good songs

  • The slow descent into madness...

  • The word inspiration is used too liberally these days. So i'm gonna apply it to fit. This is inspiring, it truly is. Not too fond of the ending but oh well.

  • is a good song but the endin isnt so great.

  • where's sample from?

  • Really? Immortal Technique and Eyedea talk bullshit?

  • Unless you're saying Immortal Technique and Eyedea cut through the Bullshit and spit the truth, never use those words together again.

Bullshit is an oxymoron to underground's finest, sage included

  • Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.

Look up "Powdered Water Too" by Eyedea and "The 4th Branch" by Immortal Technique.

Quit being ignorant or go post messages on a Metallica video.

  • Just becouse you cant comprehend the meaning of the lyrics, it doesnt automatically mean thats its bullshit. It might just mean that youre ignorant and shallow.

  • Amen to that, but one thing i also have to say is, we dont really know him, so... mabye its us thats being ignorant, along with him. you might want to take a walk in his shoes...? might enlighten your view alittle better.

  • Hmmmm it s kool ;)

  • its more than kool

    ITS AMAZING!

  • When I heard it first, this was The Music for me.

    Thanks.

    And it's Amazing!

    :)

  • safe song.

  • sage is deep,i respect that
