Dominican Republic did have a lot more whites in proportion to the total Dominicano population back in colonial times, but poverty and Dominican Republic losing its fortunes and becoming and remaining a derlict and impoverished and sparsely tiny populated region and enclave led to Spaniards ignoring it or moving on to other colonies. When French Revolution and then later Haitian revolt and revolution took place many white Dominicans fled to Cuba and PR or Panama/Colombia !

Wrong 16% of DR is actually white. The only reason you see so many dark ass DRs in the States are because whites hold most of the wealth in DR, they almost never leave the country. Predominantly white and black, but there are notable amounts of Native American (Taino) in there as well. Most people who are 75% white 25% black wouldn't consider themselves a mulatto either. Its just how a person who is 75% white 25% Native is Castizo rather than a Mestizo. Barack Obama is a true Mulatto.
If having some black down the line makes someone a mulatto than over 1 out of 3 white Americans would be mulatto just on the premise of having a black ancestor. Dominican Republic did have a lot more whites in proportion to the total Dominicano population back in colonial times, but poverty and Dominican Republic losing its fortunes and becoming and remaining a derlict and impoverished and sparsely tiny populated region and enclave led to Spaniards ignoring it or moving on to other colonies. When French Revolution and then later Haitian revolt and revolution took place many white Dominicans fled to Cuba and PR or Panama/Colombia !

@cucayuca I agree with you there are some goodlooking pr girls, but they all like blacks, i still haven't seen a pr girl that doesn't just love blacks. And also PR people, along with mexicans in the mainland US have the lowest standards of living, Wherever there are housing projects there are PR, and welfare. And the majority of the people in the island are either on ssi or some other type of welfare. Most hispanic businesses in the northeast US are owned by Dominicans.

Wrong 16% of DR is actually white. The only reason you see so many dark ass DRs in the States are because whites hold most of the wealth in DR, they almost never leave the country. Go to places like La Vega and see if you won't find light skinned and white Dominicans. On the other hand, most black Dominicans, not the mixed raced ones, are Haitian illegal immigrants. Well over a million Haitians are in the Dominican Republic, negrofying the country more than it is.

About a few thousand Haitians a day immigrate into the Dominican Republic and that is a fact. You said "Not all blacks in DR are Haitians" Why do you even put that down when I SAID MOST not ALL. And yes MOST full blacks in DR are indeed HAITIANS. In South Florida alone there are 800,000 Haitians. DR is a much easier access point, how many do you think are in this other side of DR illegally? Well over a million, some estimates show close to 2 million.

Juan Luis Guerra is not really a white Dominicano ! He is definitely white but he looks like he is mixed up, but he could and can very well pass for white !
And there are many other famous white Dominicanos such as for example, Maria Montez who was of Spanish Canarian ancestry !

And from Dominicanos I spoke to most blacks in DR are not Haitians. I agree that there are A LOT of Haitians in DR, BUT however there are many more black Dominicans of colonial Hispanic ancestry !

And yes, many times Hispanic blacks in DR many of WHOM ARE NOT MIXED, are classified as "indios" on their identification ID cards !

Also the demographics for DR are off ! The demographics which are totally flawed especially because of input from the CIA and US government, have tabulated the DR as being 73% mixed race, 11% Black, and 16% White.

Also from my researching and studying and speaking with people, it has been found and shown that the Dominican government classifies Hispanic blacks of DR as "indios" and they think of themselves as such !

Actual Black Dominicans, the ones with Dominican citizenship, get their fair share of discrimination, though clearly not in the magnitude that Black Haitians receive it. The hierarchical colorism scale in DR goes as such = in the bottom to top: Black Haitians, Black Dominicans, Dark Skinned Mixed Raced Dominicans, Light Skinned Mixed Raced Dominicans, and White Dominicans. I don't know exactly where the Asian Dominicans fall in and Arabs are normally up there with the light skinned ones.

Dominicans are a melting pot. 73% of our country is Mulatto (mix of african ancestry & european ancestry) 16% White and 11% Black. Stop talking about the ethinicity, in the end we are all Dominicans. In my family we have blonds, green eyes are our signature thing. Dominicans don't have a specific look, we're a mix of everything, theres even Asian Dominicans! And I'm from the South and in my town theres not a lot of black Dominicans, its just mulattos and white. But who cares just be proud!!!

Everything you said is right cmedina8956, but I would like to tweak the part where you said that 73% of our country is mulatto. Not necessarily. 73% is multiracial. Predominantly white and black, but there are notable amounts of Native American (Taino) in there as well. Most people who are 75% white 25% black wouldn't consider themselves a mulatto either. Its just how a person who is 75% white 25% Native is Castizo rather than a Mestizo. Barack Obama is a true Mulatto.

If having some black down the line makes someone a mulatto than over 1 out of 3 white Americans would be mulatto just on the premise of having a black ancestor. There is no denying, however, that the black rates in DR are much higher. Either way, there are a hundreds of thousands of Asian Dominicans by now in the Dominican Republic. People need to know that race and nationality have absolutely no correlation to one another. I know a Dominican who is of German ancestry.

That is something that Cuba should learn to do, how come is it that only 5% of the working force in the tourism area is black when 35% of your population is black? That has always thrilled me.
