  • was that motor sleeved?

  • That motor looks like a pain in the ass to build...

  • GREAT video and tool ideas! You're awesome! You know this.

  • Wonder how hard it would be to put one of these in a Corvair.

  • Hey John, I'm going to be assembling an SVX motor myself here soon, are your tools available for sale or rent?

  • that is a royal bitch

  • you need a headlamp man haha

  • how do you get the circlips out?

  • Wow, I really like my SBC now. Looks like some good quality fab work on those tools. Good job.

  • wow circlips on that look like a total PITA, and you cant even take the cylinders off the block? fuck that

  • I think a video of the removal would be excellent.

  • How the hell do you get that snap ring back out?

  • @tobywong When you want to take the pins out, you have to deconstruct the engine. In difference to a normal inline 4, with a boxer engine, you can remove the entire cilinder, so that the piston is out in the open. After that, it's easy to remove the ring.

  • Wow, without that tool, I have no idea how I'd do it. I had trouble enough with the EJ257, getting a pair of needlenose pliers that were long and skinny enough... I can't imagine what I'd do with the EG33.

Do you build these as stock replacements, or built up for turbo or NA applications? Been thinking of doing another project car, and doing something that is somewhat unique.

  • cool boxer 6 cillder

  • すごく剛性の高そうなブロックだなあ>スバル6気筒

  • I'm impressed, wish we had a shop of your quality in the UK

  • @ruuman There are plenty around, ofcourse some are considerably better than others, though in the UK for a top quality shop to build you a motor would cost you a considerable sum of money. You tend to find with the top notch shops that they have a waiting list as long as your arm, this is always a good indicator as to their ability and workmanship but can bugger things right up if you have a project with deadlines to meet.Autoservice and spares in Exeter are an excellent company, highly recomended.

  • @silver760 cheers mate, I'll check them out next time I need something doing

  • I've go to say John I just love your videos. I thought I knew a bit about engines. But I have learned so much from your videos. I hope one day when I am of your age, I have your sort of experience

  • WoW, crazy what you have to go through to instill them. Glad you got the tools! Might have to send you my Honda D16 to work on :)

  • y u couldn,t turn crankshaft side ways and have individual crankshafts like a v12 there would be more room under the hood like a flat top 8 but have power of a pro street

    dragster

  • @iwantchotchicks That has to be the most retarded comment ever!

  • @iwantchotchicks you are fucking stupid.

  • looks like a headache

  • How do you get that ring off? You must have a tool with a pipe over a shaft or something.

  • would you be able to sleeve an ez30R? its pretty much the same motor. I am looking to get it done on my motor sitting here.

  • Wow, that looks like a PITA...

Why cant you just assemble the con rod and piston outside the block and bolt them up like usual?

  • Because the rod bolts are not accesseable once the case it together.

  • what is the copper on the tops of the pistons is it like a non stick finish?

  • A thermal barrier coating.

  • @fiatnutz hey, i have recently aquired one of these motors and plan on turbo charging it. With the right supporting mods what boost do you think these engines will handle? cheers

  • why is so important the lock ends orientation?

  • The lock ends orientation is important because the accerlation and deceleration of the piston each stroke will cause the clip to try and open and close ( slightly ) each stroke , resulting in possible failure . The ends being at the top or bottom is putting the clip in its strongest position to resist these forces

  • i see, thanks you for your reply

  • I am impressed by the substantial webbing of that case, no wonder they can handle 500 horsepower. I can't wait to finish putting mine in my Vanagon.

  • pas de ça chez nous !

  • japanese stuff, allways soooo complicated!

  • I guess a bunch of assholes wearing lab coats designed this half baked abortion of an engine. Good job subaru!

  • MAJOR pain in the ass to build those motors looks like

  • how does the cryo process affect the metal so that it make for a stronger part?

  • hi can i find racing headgaskets for that motor??

  • Yes, I can supply you with a MLS type gasket.

  • how much does this cost?? gimme a range! seriously , cause you know what your talking about and i want you to work on my svxEG33

  • I think the gaskets are in the $100 each range if I remember. However, most products have gone up in price since I bought a set of these last.

  • Do you ever do much With Rotary engines ie Mazda''s?

  • No.

  • @fiatnutz the block and heads are stock with the stock compression ratio of 10.1:1 by the way. cheers

  • @fiatnutz why not?

  • @MrGuvEuroman i do lol

  • that looks very tricky,,,,,,good job

  • just out of curiousity how come ya didnt split the block in two to disassemble / assemble?

  • How the hell do you get them out?

  • you get to work on all the fun toys! :D

  • similar like in porch engine

  • Why would you wanna keep an engine on your porch?

  • Comment removed

  • its a EG33 Engine block....

  • No, its a Subaru EG33...

  • @arebrec why not?

  • Fantastic vid! if any one asks me to do a SVX motor i know to say no now lol :)

  • kool
