  • Ol' Koff is a lefty, I shouldda known :)

  • Epic lols at people who think they need to prove this isn't real. XP

  • that isnt a lolcat

  • WAI. Chalk wuz invented by a Mr Cretaceous 60 millionz year ago, tho.

  • No, actually. It was discovered around the 1700s, in England.

  • When I followed from your flickr page where you linked to your video, I didn't expect the comments page to be the funniest part. I lol'ed.

  • Bless you, Primate Boy! This takes me back to twenty-aught-one, when my grandpappy would set me on his knee and share his beloved clippings of the Lol Cats from the Sunday funnies. Each one a full half-sheet of newsprint, now yellowed with age, but still brilliant, retaining the rich palette, the infinitely detailed line, the subtle shadings of the original creations. And now these treasures have been rescued from oblivion!

  • I lol'd

  • It must be the real thing. Minute examination of the scratches in the film show that they repeat in a cycle.

Any fool knows that the cycle was invented before 1912.

Ergo: Q.E.D! I rest my case (of Beaujolais).

  • That song is pretty damn good for early 1900's.

  • It's a fake, you fools! They didn't invent cats until after the moon landings!

(Done a big LOL - well done that man)

  • no they were invented after the challenger disaster. like pies and ralph nader.

  • i dont see the humor?.

  • I can has revizionist histry?

  • I can't believe people are actually trying to convince all us gullible people that this is a fake. OF COURSE it's a fake! It's obviously a joke. calm down and stop trying to be all smart and stuff and junk.

  • sweet sufferin g fuck , are you people idiots? Of course it's fake...it's a joke.

Too busy feeling righteously smug about your "keen insights" to actually notice thaqt you've missed the frigging point.

  • NO WAI

    LOL

  • This is clearly a fake. This couldn't be a hand cranked nitrocellulose film from 1912 or any other era. And why would you add sound to a silent film (because no film from 1912 had sound) to give your critics something to complain about?

  • Clearly a fake, as "Gorilla" Koford was right handed! It's true. Google it.

  • That ain't even real, they did that with photoshop editing, yo!!!

  • It couldn't be photoshop editing.

They didn't have photoshop back then.

  • Absolutly fake. Film grain and scratches are easy made with video software. So the bouncing framing and the lighting.

If you watch carefully the hand motion is at >15 frames per second, while the bouncing and flash is much less. A real camera whouldn't did that. It's fake, and not very good.

  • You are epic fail yismael!

    Mao! Pwned!

  • Yeah. That "Olde timey film grain" that you see in all those classic silent films from the old MS Paint age.

  • Nice little reference to John Hodgman. :-)

  • I'm so glad... loughing out loud!

  • LOLCATS: the safe, nonthreatening internet meme for 60 year old women.

  • I surrrrrrrrrre hope that cream defender was joking about them writing i'm so glad. That would be mr. skip james....... in 1930. THE ORIGINAL, which would date it right about the right time

  • GibbonJabber is correct: this is actually a video from Carleton College's 1972 chalk contest, slowed down with fake noise added.

  • hahahaha i has seen some lost footage.

  • What a fake! YouTube didn't exist until 1986!!!! OMG LMAO ROFL STD FDA

  • RIP Aloysius.

  • DISTURBING

  • What a joke. The author took a song from Cream's 1966 debut album "Fresh Cream" and got somebody that sounds like a Delta Bluesman to rerecord it to give the video that old time feeling. The video cannot be any earlier than 1966.

  • Yeah I can't believe those Delta Bluesmen, ripping off Cream like that...

  • Actually, the music is the original 1931 recording of "I'm So Glad," initially written and recorded by Skip James.

  • Oh, that's a fake. Because chalk wasn't invented until after 1912. Do you think we're fools? (It was invented for the Moon landing in the 1960's).

  • i think youve snorted some chalk. chalk has been around since the early 1800's

  • This should silence all those non-believers.

  • Incredible! (I love you man, keep up the "discoveries"

  • absolutely fake.

  • You can't fake that olde timey film grain.

  • It's said that Koford had been a great fan of the assassinated 20th President of the U.S., James A. Garfield, and thus named his cartoon cat "James."

  • Is that a Jim Davis reference? Har!

  • H in rays AND LOLcats on one strip of film? If this film were food it would be surf and turf, perfectly cooked.

  • LOL indeed! The final credits were a nice touch.

  • snarf.

  • I thought this footage had been lost in the great san francisco earthquake. amazing discovery!

  • You mean the 2nd great San Francisco earthquake, the one in 1937, right? The one no one mentions anymore because all the press was in lakehurst New Jersey covering the Hindenburg's arrival, right?

  • yes that one, you know your quakes.
