  • Great cover to a great song. It's a melancholic journey back to my early teens...was it around 1987 Billy Bragg released this???

  • I just heard this tune for the first time last week and I fell in love with it! Well done, dude! I hope I can play it as well as you did!...

    Respect & Peace To All...

  • superb stuff my freind!!! you would'nt happen to have to have a tab for this would you? if you do could you please send it me? thanks

  • Top Notch !!

  • whats the sound that kicks in at 2.33?? what is used to achieve that sound?? sorry for noob question but great vid and great music ;)

  • That's my Line6 Variax 700 guitar on the Gibson Les Paul Custom model, bridge pickup. The original is some kind of Fender guitar with loads of reverb and played with a slide.

I can't play slide to save my arse, so I reverbed it up, put on a Tube Screamer and played the notes as played by Marr, just with more of a traditional "guitar solo" feel.

I was in love with this tone for a week. It's so boomy and rubbery sounding. I really overdid the hand vibrato and you can't tell. It just shimmers.

  • its a beautiful sound!! do you have more of it somewhere!!?? its so short :(

  • I'm afraid not. As a former neo-classical shredder wannabe type of player, my goal nowadays is to distance myself from this kind of thing completely. I try to keep the distortion and gain to a minimum.

In this particular case, however, I lacked the skills to reproduce the original solo, so I have to make do with one of my skills. Consider it a minor backsliding episode. :)

  • Thanks!

  • Your Ricky sounds awesome on this track. What model is it ?

  • It's a 2007 Jetglo 360-12. It has the hi-gain pickups (I don't like the toaster midrange). I use rounds instead of flats like most janglers do, and it really helps the treble and mid response a lot more, at least in my opinion, for whatever that's worth.

I really heavily EQ it, too. Almost the entire treble and mid bands are almost maxed out, as is presence and treble and mid on the amp (it's a Roland JC model from the PodXT Live). A bit of reverb and delay and there you are.

  • Wonderfully done! Any tips on how to play this? I've tried transcribing it myself but my ear keeps getting lost in the mix.

  • Marr is notorious for the "wall of sound". I had some difficulty as well. I used danielearwicker's video as a primer, but I figured the rest out (his sounds incredible but I do a few parts differently than he does).

Capo the first fret. As for learning the parts, at least for me, it helps to literally do it one note at a time. It requires a bit of time, but I'm sure you can do it.

I'm planning to eventually do these with some webcam shots, but I'm always busy at work (even on vacation).

  • Please append &fmt=18 to the end of the URL for high quality. YT really put the kibosh on the bandwidth with this one.
