  • I just completed a Mod A course & were told about this injury. It is valuable information for training. 45 degrees is key for attack.

  • I was a firefighter 10 years ago. They always trained us to fight a car fire from the corners and about 10 feet away if possible. Not only because bumpers blow off, but because tires blow out and can fly hundreds of feet as well. Tires can break you along with lighting you on fire, rubber stays lit at high speeds.

  • @HidingUnderCovers well this is me in the video that it happens to and I don't know about you but that bumper broke my leg and foot in 19 places w/ two compound fractures on the inside of my right leg I was trained properly but I was following the lead firefighter, i can say I'm glad he didn't make it that when that thing came off sideways like it did that i wasn't down in that deep ditch where I would have taken it in the head or chest and be dead now.. accidents happen

  • That soldier was from up near where I live, and that is a true story. His name was Ross McGinnis,

  • This incident occured on Highway 11 in Ontario, Canada. FF in the video were from the Severn Township Volunteer Fire Department

  • Someone send this to the idiots on Mythbusters. They make me sick. A couple weeks ago, exploding bumpers was "myth" even though they interviewed a CA FF who was also injured by this.

Some may remember a couple years ago that they did a show on the "myth" of a soldier jumping on a grenade being able to save his platoon even though there was a highly publicized story about a soldier in Iraq who died doing just that and did save his platoon from serious injury.

  • @jpmeyer74 Um, the myth was that the bumper would fly 50 feet. The person they talked to said it only flew 15 feet, hence busting the myth. They concluded that yes, the bumper could explode, as proved by the injury, but it wasn't the mythical 50 feet.

  • Thats why i was always trained to fight an engine compartment fire from the side, that way if that does happen chances are you wont get hurt.

  • From what I understand form this video the front strut or a fragment went through both legs. I believe he recovered and returned to duty.

  • put down the camera and help you asshole

  • what happend to the guy, who got hit?

  • I use this in my vehicle fire class, That was the front bumper struts they blow the front bumper some times as much as 75 feet from the car. they are like a shock absorber that holds the bumper on.

  • what exploded ? im confused

  • It was the front bumper they have nitrogen struts or shocks on them that explode in fire and blows the bumper off.
