It's a unique sound that has nothing to do with bands such as Senses Fail.

If you are comparing them to bands that have lasted for more than 3 years, and released more than one album, then in terms of "diversity" its not a fair comparison. Is it?
Also, just the fact that thier style has been ruthlessly imitated by countless other bands creates the illusion that it all sounds "the same" since it all sounds like prototypical "punk".

Its not "excessive" at all.
Yes, they were fast, furious, and done in a way that was accessible for non-musicians.
They were intended simply to get attention and wake people up and prosthelytize.
If you will notice, all of thier music is there in order to get thire lyrics across.
And you could also say that the lyrics "lack diversity" since they are all about political and social commentary.
"Anarchy" was just used as a metaphore for thinking for yourself, freedom, and honesty.

And I am only after looking up the guitar tabs for 3 sex pistols songs, Anarchy in the UK, Pretty Vacant and God Save the Queen and yes, there were the same powerchords used in everyone of those songs (apart from a few exceptions)

If you have a good look at the lyrics to each of thier songs, you will get an idea of what they are really about.
They are not preaching for anarchy, but you are supposed to figure it out thier core message and values without being spoon fed any answers.
Its good practice.

It is far too agressive for most mainstream tastes, and for people who are not familiar with AFI's old stuff, they would not even think that AFI could deliver something like this. So it remains burried and ignored.
