  • was that first train looooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggggggggg you must of got sleepy

  • Man, do I ever miss that cat!! And don't forget her boyfriend Peake!!

  • This video is incredible for so many reasons. I miss Chessie and Piki! These were golden days of railroading.. horns, locomotives, paint schemes and bells.

  • Also, at the second shot, does that WM unit have a Leslie RS5T?

  • Cool video. Man, just look at all the fallen flags road names on those freight cars; Chessie System, L&N, Illinois Central, Penn Central, Conrail, Western Pacific, SCL, Frisco, man, they're all there.

  • I remember seeing the Chessie quite often in Garrett, Ind back in the day..

  • i like the 2 different painted western maryland SD40s great catch thank you for sharing!

  • Man that sure seems like it could have been a Rock Island autorack head-out.. Anyone know for sure?

  • There is an overhead bridge now at this location, that carries MD rt 118 overhead....and a MARC station is here as well.

  • What was the horn on the WM SD40?

  • HOW MANY ENGINES DOES THE CLIP AT 1:49 IT MUST BE MORE THAN TEN?

  • @TheSterlingLoopTroop I know some people have a hard time with math, but I mean,............. REALLY, DUDE ???

  • @trainmasta227 i know if you look at the all comments bar

  • @xxxDeath9572xxx Sounds like an RS5T.

  • It might just be me, but why does that sound more like a M5?

  • I enjoy all of your videos! Brings back memories of watching Chessie trains run through Midland, MI on the Ludington-Saginaw portion of Chessie System!

  • @meccaturbo, whys it ill? sounds great to me.

  • Hey nice power lash up. I'm adding you to my favorite since I'm a Chessie fan.

  • picture it, an AC or DC 4400 in the chessie paint scheme, that would be an absolutley beutiful locomotive.

  • chessie will live forever awesome video 5***** and favorite

  • wow, what an awesome RS5T, this brings back memories. 5/5*

  • @Railfan19960, that horn sounds ill...especially compared to the Nathan M5 horn that was originally on that WM unit.

  • Why the clickety-clack sound of each car and locomotive? Aren't they riding on continuous weld rail?

  • Probably an unwelded joint at the Germantown location.

  • I know a railroad that uses jointed rail.

  • I dont think they had welded rail in 1982

  • Nope no welded rail on the L&N in 1982- 1992 while L&N was around until 1996-1998 the jointed rail is no longer around unless if the tracks are operated by short line railroads if you don't know what WTNN RR stands for i will tell you if anybody want to know what WTNN RR stands for.

  • welded rail was not even around in 1982 when two rails join together thats called jointed rail a track without joints is called welded rail all railroads today have now gone to welded rails except the short line railroad.

  • @shifta65 Back in those days, not every railroad had CWR. It was all believe it or not, still mostly jointed rail.

  • @shifta65 Flat spots also make that sound. When the train brakes hard the wheels slip causing flat spots, and a square wheel makes sounds when it "rolls"

  • cool

  • the last 4 units aren't running

  • love them Chessie units

  • nostalgico video!!!

  • what happen to good old chessie did they go bankrupt or merge with csx?

  • Chessie merged with Seaboard System to become CSX.

  • i know i love chessie system better then csx

  • nice vid. thanks for sharing.

  • Awesome video 5*****

  • Really nice work! NelsonArtWorks has some really fine B&O railroad prints and you can also get them directly from the B&O Railroad Museum too.

  • NICE!!

  • looked like the leader on the first chessie train had the then-all-new K5LA on it.

  • I also have a collection of EMD videos (how to) for the RR engineer on there locos over the years. I would be happy to share these at some point. But if your a fan of FEROMEX or TFM-KCS forget it. I wont give spit to a fan of Busheconomics. You gotta love America and buy Union!

  • Dang good sounding Leslie S-5T!!!

  • Wonderful video, thanks for posting!

  • Listen to that power!

  • OMG dude I remember this train. I was fishing near black hills park and there I saw this train

  • Were ALL EIGHT locomotives in this video powered up or were some of them just being pulled to a new location?

  • I think that only a few of them were running. It was a power balancing thing.

  • A recent issues of Model Railroader said that no more than 30 powered axles (five SD's) are allowed to be at the head of a train, but I can't remember the reason...maybe something to do with safety because the article also discussed how the cars in the train had to be arranged. For example, hazardous material couldn't be closer to the locomotives than five cars away, empty cars SHOULD be towards the back of the train whenever possible, and long trains are easier to control than short trains.

  • I believe you are correct.

When I lived in Colorado and Wyoming I asked the Union Pacific and BNSF guys almost the same question about power moves going up, down and through the Rocky Mountains. They said they never have more than five locomotives up front.

  • Interesting my dad retired from CSX, C&O, chessie system. 39 years! Engineer. I remeber he told me that Conrail dialed in power while he was always given way to less power for the given train. Interesting, becuse he had a rep for being on time and only a few minor derails in the yard over all those years. I am privilaged to learn from him and a lot of other RRs who get together every friday. My dad could bring a long train to a stop on a dime.

  • Nice S5T on the Western Maryland and great video!

  • Man that's unbelievable! I love the 7546 clearing the crossing at the end!

  • Today's railroads just cannot produce this type of action....not even close.

  • Words cannot descricbe how awsome this is. 5*.

  • heck ya m favortie railroad Chessie rocks 5 stars and a favortie

  • Vintage footage! 5***** NICE!

  • Vintage footage! 5***** NICE!

  • Gotta say, THAT'S POWER!!!

  • those are moderm loking autoracks, didnt know they put sides and roofs them in the early eighties

  • Awesome video!

Do you know why that other Chessie train was sitting there in the begining of the video?

  • It was probably an eastbounder (even though it was on the westbound tracks) waiting to get out of town.

  • awesome pc car!

  • Great vid!Great power they had!Do you have any GP9 or SW Switcher vids?

  • OMG!!! DID YOU REALIZE THE RARE AUTORACKS IN THAT TRAIN??? Not to mention the power...but you had an RI blue rack first out (yea, painted out, but still Rock) ICG< and a few other "classics" WOW!!!! NICE WORK!!!

  • ha, crew probably hated the walk back to the WM engine to move em the other way. when i conducted for conrail the engineer would always idle the engine we were in and let the other units do the pullin, quieter that way.

  • chessie had the best paintjob, i wonder what it would look like today if it wasnt csx.....

  • Hopefully Csx will do what Union Pacific did. And come out with heritage units.

  • neat ill tell u that

  • @srkalis1 GE's SD70's & 80'smac?

  • A Western Maryland engine? I never saw one of those before.

  • great horn(the first one!!!!!)

  • You can't replace footage like this. All of those roads are now CSX and most of that power is either still in service, retired, or getting really close to it.

  • the first 4 locos were running, the others were probably being hauled back to the shop for repairs. I should know because I am an electrician for Norfolk Southern. Federal law requires all train to operate no more than 24 live axles on the front end.

  • Oh i see, thats why they have 3 in front, and three in back as pushers?

  • Damn...........listen to that power.

  • What an exciting time to be a railfan.

  • HeeeeeHaaaaaaaw!!!!

I get to see the old days.

  • Amazing that now days youu only need 2 or 3 of them

  • that si a butt load of Locomotives!

  • I noticed the Penn Central Hopper in the mix. Couple of weeks back, I saw two of them at the CSX Parsons Yard here in Columbus.

  • Do you have any videos with Chessie B30-7 8263?

  • No, sorry.

  • Awesome video.8 Diesel locomotives!!!!!! wauw.

  • nice WM Circus SD40!

  • Do you have some videos of Chessie System SD50s?

  • A few. I'll dig them up.
