@pierrelareux. They just announced record profits because they launched a successful new car (Evoque). So, not sure you have much to offer other than big-boy swearing.
I am curious just exactly how they generate electrical power from the turbines. There is a video here showing a prototype turbine on a stand that the guy was able to hold in his hands, slightly larger than a hobby engine used in RC jets. I Imagine they have electric starter/generators driven by reduction gearing directly from the main shaft like early turbojets, but none of these videos go into that deep technical detail.
i hate concepts for the simple fact that its automotive companies saying : hey we could give you a better driving experience, but instead we're just going to upgrade our cars slightly just to get more money
I'm really excited about this but not from a design point of view. The idea of a turbine generating electric power for the electric motors is inspired. We know turbine engines are very efficient at constant speeds. (Ref. Every plane you've ever been on.) This solves the problem of slow throttle response of the old GM turbine cars and sets out an idea of the future of car design that is wholly new and innovative. I think this is the best approach I've seen it came from Jaguar. Much respect. Luv.
Nice concept, but I suspect that its rear deck is going to need some additional aerodynamic work if they're going to achieve good stability at speed, unless they think that the underbelly tray will be able to achieve it all by itself.
design is ok beauti is in the eye of the beholder, but will the twech, make it,to fruition......problably not,40k us wont happen... thing is with cars is you have to sell them......................
@Stephanvonbanhammer the only idiots are the ones who think batteries and coal fired electric plants are green... I won't even bother with the idea of turbine engines for charging those batteries.. yes the car is cool and fast but it's not green by any stretch of the imagination.. unless you're an idiot..
@MrMeanderthal You should check the comment I was replying to troll before you jump like an idiot. Anyways I don't think any coal fired plants are green in the slightest. Ontop of that your simply trolling because its the top comment, I simply shot down some punk, I didn't ask to be in the spot light, it just happened. Go reply to posts earlier than 3 months because I frankly just don't care. This car is a marvle of sports car engineering i didn't say it was greener than a prisus.
@MrMeanderthal Actually it could be considered "GREEN" depending on how efficient the turbines are. Gas turbines can burn just about any flammable liquid or gas as fuel, from gasoline or diesel including biodiesel, even propane.
amazing car, why go hybrid? keep the hybrids to cars that are used everyday
this being hyrbid and only going to have a few made, wont make much of a difference at all...they should just go ahead and fill it with a v-12 or v-10 or somethin
@MrBRL It is pretty badass I admit, but why not have the actual turbine power the wheels like the Y2K bike?
it would probably go faster, or you could have the same set up but the electric motors only power the front of the car, and the actual turbines are hooked to the rear wheels, that would equal insane acceleration
@redghost105 because they are trying to show you can have a supercar that is economical, now before you go all high and mighty, think about this, 2 gas turbine engines trying to push alot of weight vs 2 gas turbine engines spinning power generation equipment, turbines work most efficiently when they reach a certain rpm and stay there, so the constant speed would make it alot smarter use of the turbines!
Gorgeous car, but I call bullshit on Jaguar's sustainability and environmental talk. A car that costs between $1.15 million and $1.48 million (options cost more than a house?) is a car that about 0.2% of drivers could even consider, and that does absolutely nothing for the planet. Why bother making it electric then? Pure greenwash.
@MrVirtualparticle 1) The government will impose a mpg law in the future, forcing companies to maintain a high average number of mpg. Jaguar is not too large of a company so it cannot produce guzzlers of supercars and average it out with cheaper daily drivers. 2) The technology of concept and supercars trickles down the lineup of companies.
Great car with incredible fuel efficiency considering it's a supercar but seriously the exterior needs to be redesigned, it would be a pity to market it with such a poor futuristic like exterior.
I don't know that the air being sucked into the turbines behind your head will be such a good idea. But the car looks amazing! Maybe the air for the turbines could come through the top fin or the top flap
Sure this is somewhat innovative in that it's different than the mass produced internal combustion cars, but it's not innovative at all in terms of new technology. In other words, electric cars aren't new and neither are turbines. Why not have something trully innovative like using nanotechnology to have all the body panels as solar collectors to power the electric motor or something like that.
i see this car will probably have some big engine that will give no miles to the gallon when they have produced a perfect turbine that will run on electricity..come on jauar dont let ur self down, best you stick the turbine in and get full praises from all over the world for creating probably the best looking car ever made..
@Rangeroversport12 i don't get why these car manufacturers aren't trying to use all these other energy sources and technology like solar, wind turbines, etc on normal everyday cars. These technology shouldn't be that expensive! Every business tries to nickel and dime the average joes
Proud owner of a jaguar... I expect nothing but the best from them and there cars are always top of the line and unique. You know a jag when you see one and this is exactly what this is. Beautiful car.
I wonder if John DeLorean could have been a contender in this arena.I hope Jaguar can make a revolution out of this car like the Mini when it first came out.All the winning ideas and components are here, make it come out right.Success can be a double edged sword.

@9zerocool4 Agreed. There's no reason to have a gaping maw at the front if the engine is in the back and underneath. Totally ruins the beautiful lines.

Just watched this video again and I just had a thought...
What if it sucked a discarded coffee cup into a turbine on the highway? :-o
Seriously, I need to see this car in my garage... Just let move the rusty VW Jetta and broken lawnmower. Oh and look for the several million $ I think I left in there.
@josheskimo Yes. But I wonder what the longterm longevity of an 80000 rpm turbine would be? I know that it doesn't matter with a car of this type but using turbines in other more pedestrian hybrid cars may be a more efficient option over piston engines.
jaguar have been at these kind of design for years. Their concept cars designed 10 years ago are now being used by their XK and their XJ. But look, they are not going to make this car. Look Jaguar, we know you have the ideas and beautiful design. NOW GO MAKE IT!!!!
actually, this is nothing but a modern re-conception of the very first hybrid vehicle designed and made by - who else - Ferdi Porsche. either end of 19th or the very beginning of the 20th century. had 4 wheel motors, powered by battery power, with conventional engine running electrical generator to charge batteries. did 1000 miles on batteries charge. bested any electric vehicle of today.

Yet another brilliant piece of thoroughly brilliant British Engineering from chassis, electric control, motors and micro-turbines. Well done to the UK Jaguar team and their suppliers, regularly the first to innovate but often not to benefit. Very good luck to the team! As a bonus it is totally beautiful in every way. FANTASTIC!

This car was featured on Top Gear, it is said it will do 0-60 in 3.8 sec and a top speed of 205mph. The price is expected to be £200k.

Just watched this video again and I just had a thought...
What if it sucked a discarded coffee cup into a turbine on the highway? :-o
Seriously, I need to see this car in my garage... Just let move the rusty VW Jetta and broken lawnmower. Oh and look for the several million $ I think I left in there.
marshgre 11 months ago
@marshgre of course there are grilles and filters...
josheskimo 11 months ago
@josheskimo Yes. But I wonder what the longterm longevity of an 80000 rpm turbine would be? I know that it doesn't matter with a car of this type but using turbines in other more pedestrian hybrid cars may be a more efficient option over piston engines.

they didnt say that the car isnt actually working yet

jaguar have been at these kind of design for years. Their concept cars designed 10 years ago are now being used by their XK and their XJ. But look, they are not going to make this car. Look Jaguar, we know you have the ideas and beautiful design. NOW GO MAKE IT!!!!

@hfzmu
actually, this is nothing but a modern re-conception of the very first hybrid vehicle designed and made by - who else - Ferdi Porsche. either end of 19th or the very beginning of the 20th century. had 4 wheel motors, powered by battery power, with conventional engine running electrical generator to charge batteries. did 1000 miles on batteries charge. bested any electric vehicle of today.

FANTASTIC!
