  • Johnny is from Maine. Doesn't get much more "blue" than Maine!!

  • I'm a city guy from a blue state. Don't like country music or anything like that. But bluegrass guitar is the best kind of guitar.

  • @Fuhjem: Heh, heh... Fuhjem, modern country music has roots in traditional mountain music and what we call bluesgrass... so you already "like" country music, you just don't know it! Jump on in... the water's fine. Far as being from the city and a blue state, so what? The music's bigger than that. All kinds of folks are welcome.

  • Is he reading tab or note?

  • @josejuan61 Neither... the man is legally blind.

  • You bet, Johnny is the man, I have his chickin pickin instructional vid. he is a very good teacher, hes even got an old clutz like me playin alot better, yep "THE MAN"

  • Great stuff!!!

  • he sure can pick that 6 string

  • BRAVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!

  • He's so intense, its more like the music is him, rather than him playing the music.

  • Holy tits!

  • Johnny can play riduculously complicated runs and still make it sound tasteful and classy. And he does it in slow motion. Pretty much blindfolded.

    10/10

  • MF YEEHAAAA!!!!

  • Who really gives a FF, when you can play this well?

  • He is fucking awesome, but I would just love it if he would release an album called I cant see shit

  • Is he realy blind ???? o.O

  • @pcmasterhelp no but he's got problems in his eyes. I think it's that they can't stay still or something

  • I feel sorry for this guy. He's a great player but he does have a few birth conditions

  • love it

  • what scales?

  • He's so effortless. Like it looks like its not hard for him to do at all..

  • dear god!!

  • is he tuned to an open chord? or is it normal guitar tuning?

  • @GratefulWeimz89 I'm just going to stop responding because I swear there's a backing track behind this and it's screwing my ears up. Standard.

  • Awesome picker!

  • After five months I have just re found this video....and it still sends shivers down my spine!

In England this type of music is never played on TV or radio..our loss!

This man is a true talent.

  • A true master.

  • Who put a dislike on here ? Must be a mistake .....and I dont mean just the "tick".

If time could be turned in reverse the person who dislikes this could go back to where they were conceived.

  • yeah!

  • that was awesome

  • Well done Johnny, some pickin

  • great playing i really like that and one person dose'nt know a good tune when thay hear it

  • great playing i really like that

  • Johnny is cool and humble enough to give the other guitarist a solo break, in his own video...

  • king of the rednecks

  • Why has he got so much talent..and I've got none!.

  • @troikagirl

You are what you eat, eat talent be talent.

  • @troikagirl I feel the same as you but I suppose the next question should be "how many hours has he sat or stood with his guitar in his hands over the years compared to me.

Players like this have talent yes, but their dedication, drive and workload ethic are equally as awesome, if all of us had the dedication and put the same practice time in most of us could get 75% of the way there and that would satisfy me.

  • I just did some background research on Johnny Hiland & he is legally blind, nearly fell of my chair, its 20 outta 10 now.

He's now become an all time great in my book, superb.

  • You've just collected another fan, this is exactly the type of music I really like,

Yeehaaaa very smooth playing, 10 outta 10

  • This boy can play!!!!!!!!!

  • Guild. Yes! :D

  • his face looks mad funny when he plays like a lil donut boy teheheehe

  • If you wanna a satanic possession pause it at exactly 0:10.

  • Johnny is great and has a great heart. This guy isn't out to get rich he just loves guitar.

  • ....he's gotta be playing with another guitarist there...

  • Is that rig plugged in, or does it just sound like it????

  • Man, that was sooooo good! I love youtube. Never heard of this guy till just now. I was just playing my guitar...took a break....saw this....I really suck....damn.

  • @beer1for2break3fast4 I know what you mean, esp getting shown up by someone thats legally blind!

  • that sounds like a complete strings band!....great!.

  • bravo

  • Johnny Hiland is so good I would sell my soul to play like him.....no joke

  • What a wonderful guitar slinger!

  • Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeea, Hammer down brotha!

  • I never heard of this guy till now, Im gonna buy his music. Damn he can pick!

  • Just an Old Maine boy ...Great picker from "Down East"

  • That 's awesome !!! =)

  • Killer(electric)guitar player for sure, but on this video i don't hear a real Bluegrass guitar technique, tone and sound too.His approach on the acoustic is completely wrong in my opinion.

I would like to see him burn an electric guitar fretboard.

  • agreed

  • @greekflatpicker Really Dickless? I guess we should take your opinion over those people who don't have a clue about Bluegrass like.....Ricky Skaggs!!

    Go Fuck Yourself NIGGA!

  • this is the most epic thing iv ever heard!!!!!!!!

  • anyone have the book for this DVD?

  • god damn. that's some Fine Guitar you are playing there

  • it's crazy how good his technique is, most of the time you see a country guitar player who's practically grabbing the whole neck with his thumb but johnny does a pretty good job of keeping it behind the neck a good bit of the time

  • I grab the whole neck with my thumb, so does hendrix, srv, and countless other amazing players I have seen. I don't think there is such a thing as a bad technique. If it works for the player, then its good.

  • @richg199 it seriously limits your stretching

  • this dude is sick

  • Thank you Johnny!!! I love your beautiful music!!!

  • I agree. Johnny is very versatile to say the least.

  • One of the best guitar players today.

He can play everything, Country, bluegrass, Rock, swing. Blues.

Check out his new cd, proud and loud.

  • @MoveThatgroove He kinda reminds me of Jim Hurst in that regard.
