@Jackwee182 i have one with a bigsby trem on it but the same bridge, it stays in tune fine, even though everyone will tell you tuning stability is a major issue with the bigsby equipped versions. people like to exaggerate the bad things they heard about the "norlin era" gibsons like this, as if the problems applied to all guitars for the era, which is simply untrue.
A good clean sound will clear the aisles in a proper context. Distortion came as a result of loosing (and experimenting) that great clean sound. Distortion works for a lot of music but there is nothing like a great guitarist with a clean sound.
please dont kill me but the 70s sgs look cheap ... i never liked the block inlays, and there is no binding ... it sounds good but looks ugly, to me of course
How sure are you that this is a 72'? I am asking because I own an identical SG that I am almost positive dates to 1971. What it the serial number on this guitar? My SG is 128400 Also it came with Grover tuners from the factory which I hear is fairly rare as they are usually re-branded as Gibson tuners.
@jeba189 much character gets lost with gain, its good to hear a vintage guitar clean before any gain as a reference to its warmth from aging... they are meant for many other styles than rock :P. im sure it would sound great with a bit of wah or analog delay over some reggae rhythm.
oh shit, i just realized, is dumble the amps that were hand made with gold wiring or somethin like that, my paps told me bout them that they were the most saught after amps
Well, i dont know about the gold wiring (they are built extremely well though), but along with Trainwreck Amps, Dumbles are some of the most saught after in the world, The reason for this is that Dumbles and Trainwrecks are so few in number (about 300 D's, about over 100 T's), but have the best tone in the world. Both Alexander (Howard) Dumble and Ken Fischer are/were(RIP Ken) some of the best amp builders/designers in the world.
they really do sound so sweet, and smooth, course this guy helps and espicially with the guitars, a true test would be to get a first act from walmart, and if that sounds as good, then hell ya there the best
Greg - beautiful tone and playing, love the string rakes and your walkdown to the 9th chord! Sweet move, can I borrow it? LOL! You could really make my day by doing this same demo with a Strat using all the pickups. Please? I've never heard a Dumble on the bridge pickup of a Strat. Always 2nd and 4th.
Unless this guitar is chestnut brown color (tough to tell from the video), then I have the exact same guitar.
This is the ONLY other 70's SG Standard I have ever seen without neck binding (like mine). Even Gibson wasn't exactly sure when it was made. All I know is the date on my pots is 1971.
i got the same bridge on my lespaul copy, the inlay of the neck and the bridge of your SG are really from the 70's models but the usual standard models have a full size pickguard.
I don't get it, sorry. Great playing, nice guitar (though more a fan of Fenders myself)...I know the amp is supposed to be perhaps the BEST ever, but to my ears it sounds a little bland. Like you'd hear on old 70s records of washed out rockers...it's not distinctive, I suppose. Please don't take offense. I'm not compaing my tone to yours, but for the money these go for, I'd rather have a Fender Twin or something...
Hi, this is only one clip, recorded at home with a simple mikeat Bedroom-Volume. Check the files of my cd - this is different. But I like this sg sound too
I suppose the bedroom volume will make lots of difference..can't really hear it working properly. I know Mayer uses a Dumble clone live and his tone is pretty damn good so maybe it just needs to be cranked to work well (as with most tube amps...)
Also, the cheap mic will make lots of difference. I have listened to many of your clips though, and I still don't think it has anything special. It is a little smooth (I don't mean clean) for my liking...I don't know. I probably need to hear it live.
I like them both. But for classic rock / metal and emo songs the studio with hmbucking PUs would be better. The SG is great for Blues and trad. Rock (Stones, AC/DC etc)
Thanks man, yes, this Dumble is unbelieveable! But with this series of videos I started to use a good Mikrophone placed direct in front of the speaker instead of the cheap camara-mike wich was used on the Fender-Amp-Videos
soo does this guitar come out of tune quick cuz i herd the bridge aint so cool
