I guess I found out about this game just by chance. I bought a Sega CD and it was supposed to only come with one game, some mediocre strategy game. Needless to say the system arrived not only with the said game but also with two others. Luckily one of them was Sol Feace and I've loved the game ever since.
I first heard this song in the video on YouTube titled "1994 Winter CES 3/6". Then I hear several people mentioning the song's composer, Motoi Sakuraba, while I looked him up and noticed that he also did some music for some Mario sports games, the Golden Sun series, the Valkyrie Profile series, the Tales series, the Shining Force series, the Star Ocean series and several others. Dang, this guy is good.
@1983parrothead: Yep, Sakuraba it's pretty famous. It's not uncommon to be impressed by a 8-bit or 16-bit game OST then notice that who made is actually a pretty famous game composer. In fact, i feel like most of the best videogame music was made by no more then 20 or 30 people.
@Shendue This game was originally released for the Sharp X68000, a home computer best known for arcade ports that perfectly match the original arcade versions.
I wonder which song is better: this or the Stage 1 theme of the PC-Engine version of Kaneko's Nexzr?
@1983parrothead: Being a retrogamer and a collector myself, i know the Sharp X68000, even tho i don't own one (yet...eheheh). Anyway, i didn't know that the game first camo out for the X68000. Is that version close to the Mega CD release in terms of music and graphics?
@Shendue The Mega CD version has a longer intro with voice acting, but the X68000 version has sound effects that are easier to hear. The BGM is identical. The Earth seen in the intro of the X68000's version has better quality, but it rotates the opposite direction.

God, this song is just classic, set the mood for the game perfectly, and made me want it so bad. Even back then, Sakuraba was just an incredible composer. And now? I say he's the greatest gaming composer of all time.
The depth of his music, and the amount of genres he can reach? Unmatched. I have yet to see anyone who can even come close. Not to mention, he can touch the emotional core, on otherwards, the guy knows his shit.
it's definitely been a while since hearing this...I think my friend rented this game waaaay back in the day if I'm not mistaken...definitely been a while...!

My first Sakuraba game. I always wondered why VP and Tales seemed so nostalgic to me when I was younger.

You're right. It was underrated. I enjoyed it also. Great sound and gameplay especially when compared with games that existed at the time.
