Nostradamus also predicted 1,000 years of Peace. I hope they start in the lifetimes of our precious children if not our own. Great Song, Mr. Stewart. Thank you, 2Minstral for posting. Peace, All.
This was the first song I ever heard from Al and to this day I love it. I rushed to buy the album oh.. so long ago and to this day this can make me cry.
Amazing song-Nostradamus got all his phrophecy from Cathrine DeMedici, whom he served as personal advisor-the Evil Medici family always ruled the Vatican and world Banking. Remember to FIGHT the European Royals& Vatican led "One World Gov." -The next Roman Empire, Nazi 4th Reich, Rise of anti Christ, mark of the Beast, Luciferian's, Illuminati, New Knight's Templar's-all are the same "New World Order" who must use their Washington-Wall st. puppets to destroy-YOU and America.
MY CHOICE AS MONSTER OF ALL-TIME :The leader of Cambodia's Khmer Rouge, Prime Minister Pol Pot wasn't a very good guy (1.5 million Cambodians slaughtered in just 3 short years under his murderous regime)...Pol Pot made Hitler and David Rockefeller look like boyscouts.
No one could've predicted Obama, or his idiotic policies which are mostly responsible for the lowered the U.S. credit rating for the first time in history(from AAA to AA)....ya can't blame Bush for the whole mess cuz the Dems have controlled Congress for 4 years now and Obama The Messiah has been CEO for 2 and a half years.
07/16/2011 was the 12th anniversary of a 460 year old poem about JFK Jr's plane crash; Century 10 ~ Quatrain 72: "The year 1999, seventh month, ~ From the sky will come a great King of Terror: ~ To bring back to life the great King of the Mongols, ~ Before and after Mars to reign by good luck." @minstral, Gilbert Gottfried is a funny guy. Thanks for being a sport. There's too many people on the interweb who take things too seriously, you know...
@herbgurl82 - Actually the Rockefellers own the majority shares in 1000's of corporations, including the oil companies. I made a 6 part video series called Road to Endless War that can explain everything that is going on in the World. It also goes into detail about who the Rockefellers are. It's really worth a watch if you have time..
@2minstral senator rockefeller is a good and thoughtful senator , and is very much defending us from the corporate onslaught , the creed of greed , the koch bros , and thomas and scalia .
@Thadmotor1044 - Senator Jay Rockefeller wants to shut down Internet free speech. How is that a good thoughtful senator? The Rockefellers are at the top of the greed and power game through the Corporate and Banking cartels they sit on top of.
@2minstral So many choices...there was Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, who was a thoroughly despicable human being. Then, there was Osama Bin Laden, holding a grudge against an entire country and seeking to destroy it's people forever. Whoever's pulling the strings in Darfur has to be pretty evil. The common choice, of course, is Adolf Hitler. There's also the girls who put the whole Salem Witch Trial into motion, accusing people of witchcraft for, from what I can tell, fun. (1/2)
@2minstral There was also a young girl who was about 15; killed another girl (who, if memory serves, was eight.) just to see what it felt like. It also might be good to look up Jesse Pomeroy, another child killer who was probably 14 when he committed his first murder. There are also notorious serial killers, such as Ted Bundy and (if memory serves) Charles Manson, who had a psychological disorder known as anti-social personality disorder. I'm sure there's more, too. Take your pick. (2/2)
@thewriter1008 - The Rockefellers supplied both sides in WW2 and have been behind the push for a New World Order through the CFR. All Roads to Endless Wars start right there. Millions died because of shareholder profits, a rigid business position, and the lust for power through their greed. You might like to view a series called Road to endless war. It shows the rise of the CFR and who is behind it.
@thewriter1008 - Well thats your choice, but the quest for global control of all markets and monetary systems is a fact. Their objective is to create and control one currency used by the World. The CFR stands for The Council on Foreign Relations. It was created in 1918 after World War 1 to decide the direction of World business. There is a lot of information available on the internet. See video series Road to Endless War. It explains the New World Order and the CFR and the impact on our lives
This song is epic! The scope is so vast, covering many centuries, and you infer between the lines that history repeats itself, just with a different cast--and that "as in war, the victor only _seemed_ to win." [from aa favorite book of mine].
I loved Al Stewart in the early 80s and could not remember his name but his music stuck with me for all this time. I heard him on the radio tonight and had to stop and cry for joy of having finally found him! I'm not the same any longer but this music touches me just the same and brings back memories of joy and pain...
@evawilhelm - I hear you. Al Stewart was one of many great artists from the 70's and 80's era that captured everyones imagination. I am promoting independent artists from today that bring back the sounds or further the sounds from that time on my channel and website called worldunitedmusicDOTblogspotDOTcom. I think you will like the music there.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and for sharing a moment. Have a great week!
@2minstral - Incredible job with the images. I am a big fan of Al Stewart and Peter White. I met Peter once about 20 years ago, and told him he resembled Tom Hanks (which he did). He told me I looked like Chuck Norris (which I did at the time), and we talked and laughed as if we were old friends. What a great guy. I still have the picture he signed for me. Thanks for the post, it brought back great memories.
JAN 2011......wow....today is the first time i have heard this song since 25 or more yeras ago.....when my guitar teacher introduced me to the artistry of Al Stewart. My teacher would play the accoustics to this selected piece, Nostradomus.....it is an unbelievable piece or art to be heard, but listened to....being that this song is based on the story of the writings of the Prophet Nostradomus......GREAT MUSICIAN.......GREAT ARTIST!!!!
Galway University 1982 when I got my hands on a live album that had this song and "the road to Riyadh" Listen to "Love chronicles" (all 18 minutes of what must be a saga in the history of music.)
Interesting comment at the end -- "The answer you seek lays in community". I cannot help but wonder if they mean Communion .. as in the global community that we in the Gaiene Communion are starting to build. Nostradamus is frustrating. He is clearly accurate, but at the same time he is wilfully meaningless.....
Welldone brilliant job with vid .I had this album when it first came out the sleave notes where very informative not to mention the songs and led to me having a life long interest in history.Cheers Tom R
@CanuckBoy1957 - This is one of my favorite tunes by Al Stewart. Glad you liked the video and thanks for stopping by and taking the time for to comment! Hope you have a great week!
@2minstral Thanks for that, i enjoyed the video. Prophetic or not, voodoo, or hoodoo, it's a statement about what idiots we are over the course of time. I guess we are pre programmed to be nasty to each other. Brilliant song though
Brilliant! I played this track obsessively in the 1970s together with Old Admirals, Love Chronicles, Amsterdam, Roads to Moscow and Modern Times. Al Stewart was a really under-rated musician. Thanks for this post.
Anyone "just discovering" Al Stewart----welcome to a wonderful experience of the senses--------------------
Beautiful video, beautiful song, a mere snippet of the many lovely ones from his beautiful cd s. Real music with meaning and something to make us all listen??--oh,yes! lovers of "-rap" take note, lol!!
Heard--"World Goes To Riyadh"???? or "Roads to Moscow"???---well,do so now!--that's an order!!!
@kbrowneyes - Al Stewart was one of the most under rated musicians of the 70's. I love his music.
Check out my website called World United Music. I am showcasing the best Indie artists and I think you will be pleased with some of the music. Thanks for stopping by!
@kbrowneyes Yes, Riyadh rocks! Anyone tired of much of current music like me will open wonderful new vistas listening to the awesone Al Stewart. Even his current work will blow you away!
@kbrowneyes Although I like Al Stewart, I have to disagree with you on the rap part: Half the people who make the declaration that hip hop/rap has no lyrical meaning haven't listened to much rap at all. There are a lot of good rap artists who put a lot of thought into the lyrical value of their songs.
@hazzystan I don't want to listen to someone speaking rhythmically to percussion music. It doesn't matter to me what is said, I just don't like the form. Bards recited poetry to a harp's tones but this as far as I know has never been done in the history of the world. It is a fringe movement that I don't believe will ever be embraced by most of the public. There must be more people who don't like it than do.
WOW been years since ive listened to this song, i love it, thanks for posting it!!! Al stewarts nostradamus would have to be the hardest peece of music to find and near imposable to find on CD
@hotrodandy68 - Al Stewart was a class artist. Thanks for stopping by! Hey, check out the Indie artists I am featuring, There are a lot of great musicians out there that were inspired by the 70's music. Mainstream doesn't feature them but thats ok because the music has evolved around them and plays on the internet. Check out my website and radio features.
@fourmod001 - Glad you enjoyed the video. Al Stewart is a great musician and I don't think anyone could have picked a harder subject to sing about. He is a true minstrel and of course, Nostradamus was a great light for the ages.
This received quite a bit of airplay during 1974...freeform radio still existed then, which is what allowed it to get that radip play. Now it would most likely be overlooked or relegated to college or listener-sponsored stations.Totally unique for its time (and as far as I know, noone else has written an extensive tune about Nostradamus. Who could possibly follow this up?). Past, Present and Future was Al Stewart's finest moment, and not just the music, but the album cover depicting Dr. Strange!
@MrJamesrnolan - I think you manged to sum it all up very nicely. Truly a great album! Hey, I have started a Website and radio program that showcases the best Indie artists and bands, you should stop by or check out the weblink on my page. I have featured 58 artists each with a 2 song feature. I am quite sure you will find some music you will enjoy.
Al Stewart is truely a great story teller. His music is unique and very enjoyable to listen to. Thank you for posting this tune which is my biggest favourite of all Al's songs.
i just you-tubed Al Stewart..found this video....it is absolutely fantastic " Orgasmic" even. Bloody great visuals to go so well to the track thanx for the experience, Kevnorev.

Even his current work will blow you away!
rac717 1 year ago
@kbrowneyes Although I like Al Stewart, I have to disagree with you on the rap part: Half the people who make the declaration that hip hop/rap has no lyrical meaning haven't listened to much rap at all. There are a lot of good rap artists who put a lot of thought into the lyrical value of their songs.
hazzystan 1 year ago
@hazzystan I don't want to listen to someone speaking rhythmically to percussion music. It doesn't matter to me what is said, I just don't like the form. Bards recited poetry to a harp's tones but this as far as I know has never been done in the history of the world. It is a fringe movement that I don't believe will ever be embraced by most of the public. There must be more people who don't like it than do.
quincannon40 1 year ago
@quincannon40 He/she was attacking the lyrical value of rap, not the actual music.

Strange!
