I forgot how wonderful Sesame Street was and is. I just LOVE the effects of the wind as if the wind is just so merciless which adds to the comical effect. Especially the moment when the wind invades Cookie Monster's home as Cookie Monster just sits there with little reaction (save for that sweet moment when he hugs a lamb without devouring it).
And Kermit, I forgot that he was there sometimes in Sesame Street. I love you Jim Henson.
They must have really, really loved that wind-blowing practical effect because they used it over and over and over - remember when Guy Smiley did a musical number about how "air, air, air - it'll blow you right away?"
Sesame street got me believing that pigs sounds like horses and horses like cows and there are some strong ass winds in Georgia. Put your hand up in the air, catch a lamb and you got yourself a shawarma
Hey Jon, did you get the new Sesame Street Spoofs DVD set? It includes this segment, and surprisingly it uses the ORIGINAL 1980s Union Jack opening version! I guess SesameWorkshop really wanted to wow the fans who were used to seeing their official uploaded version being the edited 1990s version.
lol, after I saw Gone with the Wind for the first time my friend kept calling Rhett, "red"... and then I saw this and his name being "green" was just so much funnier... along with "frankly my dear" and "I'll think about it tomorrow" just reminded me about how children's television used to be incredibly intelligent... it not only appealed to children but it had humor for the parents watching it as well, brilliantly written... classic muppets = love <3
that's hilarious to name Kermit 'Green'...and the whole 'Frankly, my dear.." speech....and i just watched 'Gone w/ the Wind' for the first time ever just the other day haha
I definently recall a late 90's episode where Gina read this to Zoe and Elmo and one of them even commented that the frog in the book looked like Kermit, and an edited version of this skit played.
i know! It doesn't talk down to kids like tellitubbies and other shows do now. It assumes the kids are intelligent and creative enough to enjoy it, and it provides great entertainment for the parents too! I used to love this stuff as a kid!
I agree. It also has the original Alistair Cookie clips. In the 1990s version they shot new footage of Alistair Cookie and lip-synched the puppet to the original voice track.

I remember seeing Gone With The Wind, the movie, in High School. It's about the civil war, right?
muppetfan33 9 months ago
@muppetfan33 Yes, partially.

This has to be the most tragic Monsterpiece Theater movie ever.

haha, funny how the character of "Red" is named green here.

That's not Red, that's Rhett.

Garrettk41 is right. I think he is named Green to go along with the color Scarlett. :)

This comment has received too many negative votes show
As much as I love Sesame Street, this segment doesn't educate a child, but only frightens it...

The pigs that sound like sheep getting repeatedly owned throughout is what makes it a classic.

I've always loved the silly and sorta dark humor of the early Sesame Street days when I was a kid.

yeah that irritates me. Despite seeing Alastair Cookie eating a pipe several times, I never had any desire or interest in smoking or eating one.

It was a pretty windy day in my town yesterday. It made me want to watch this again.
Also, does anyone have the cartoon with a lady pig losing all her hats to the wind?
Garrettk41 3 years ago
i think i remember that.. not sure though.
did you find it?

Why is Kermit called Green here? The female frog's name is still Scarlett, so why didn't she just call him Rhett?
Garrettk41 3 years ago
Because they're both colors... Scarlett? Green?
tfridge 3 years ago
Yes but notice how Ms. Scarlett isn't in fact scarlet colored. She's lavender.

Did Alistair Cookie take a pipe out of his mouth near the end? Anyway, this story didn't make any sense to me but it sure was funny.
