  • I personally cannot believe that the only Being worthy of worship is male or female. Either way would follow that (He) also has the worldly limitation of being in need of another Being to be accomplished.

I believe that the All-Capable, Supreme One is genderless. It kind of make the same point as saying that God is man and woman but makes more sense, atleast in my view.

    Peace. =)

  • I have read "By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept" when you were talking about the feminine face of God I thought you were talking about the Virgin Mary. Am I right?

  • God is God, I believe God doesn't have gender, it's simply God

  • Great reflection, Coelho. I agree with your ideas. I think God is all genders, and, unfortunately, many cultures emphasis the patriarchy rather than the matriarchy. Thus, the Goddess is often forgotten or ignored. Thank you for reminding us to reflect on the Goddess, and to remember our compassion and love for all peoples.

  • maybe ephasising on matriarchy or patriarchy is wrong. I think it shouldn't matter what gender you are

  • That's a good point you make.

  • I think God has a female face, but how could it all?

and independent of man or woman are human, do not believe in the power of sex, I believe in human power .. and God is omniscient and divine is the man and woman ....

  • For me, we are all one! Love! No different to each other. Yet somehow, as beings, we needed to procreate and therefore we became two genders. The God and Goddess of love, are each capable of masculine and feminine tendencies, yet both have extremes. Strength (masculine) and sensitivity (feminine) are harmonious, and when brought together again in mutual love and understanding, this creates peace. Peace on earth comes from peace of mind. 'Being' at One with each other will bring total peace. x

  • In my opinion there is no feminine or masculine face of God. I do not believe anyone really knows God.What we believe God is then God will be for us since this is what we have formed of God being. I would like to know God but i will never let anyone tell me what God is and i believe it is an individual search .

  • Well... here in India, we worship a large no. of different GODs.. both MALE n FEMALE.... The Goddesses are described to be warm, loving, caring but equally strong, while the Gods are calm, just, strong and courageous.

  • I think that 1500 years ago when most people could'nt read, religious leaders needed a way to explain God to people who probably had no concept of what God is. Therefore like speaking to a child you need a simple explaination.

I believe this is why God is described with words like father, King and other human style descriptions including God being an old man with a beard.

I believe God is a spirit like electricity. Not visible but the evidence is everywhere. A power above space and time.

  • pkbarlo2 thats a very good explanation. I think God is so great and and more powerful and beautiful than we can imagine. And since the dawn of time man has tried to find an explanation for him, a way to see him, feel him and get closer to him.

  • Perhaps some of us do it because we love him so much and we want to embrace him like how we embrace our loved ones, so we give him a sexuality and a human like identity, but he is so much more and beyond. Perhaps some do it to question his existence, and some may do it for personal gain.

  • Another interesting factor is language, for instance in English we refer to him as a male, but in Farsi he is never referred to as a male or female. So there is a matter of society, language and history here too.

    God bless u all :)

  • Paulo, you there?

  • Can we redefine "God", which is only a prefabricated title brought forth in within religious fairytales? I would suggest we focalize on Life as being our One Creator. Maybe, just maybe, we could save this World from human destruction.

  • The feminine part of Our Creator (God / Life) is clearly seen within our own very physical natures. It is further witnessed to by the very physical reproduction process, and the Nature of Creation or Evolution within the Womb of Life (Being) Itself.

  • God is no man, no woman. God has no face, and yet in all lifeforms God is represented. You cannot think about god, because the ratio of men wants to label anything and everything. God is not to be explained by men. Men cannot be explained by God. If you don't know who you are and why you exist, what is your bussiness trying to define God.

  • Wrong.

  • Feminine, masculine, sexually ambigious...God is just a theory without evidence...I'm a huge fan of your work Paulo, I really am. I'm an atheist, and even though I find your books terribly theistic, I enjoy the narrative style (only in spanish though). I have learned a lot, for my own writing, from your narration. I just wish you could perhaps explore more lessons everyone could learn, without the need for a magical sky god.

  • Would you like to debate "without evidence"?

  • Sure why not? Though, I doubt any argument you may present will be different from the hundreds of things I've heard from other theists. Please, present empirical facts that prove the existence of a higher being worthy of admiration. :)

  • Doubt itself, is a deterent in understanding. "Empirical facts". Let's start with: Are you alive? And if so, define please the process of your coming into existence.

  • Not really. There is speculation, and there is fact. Defining the process of my coming into existence is easy:

    Biology

  • Speculation leaves room only for further analysis and fact deems conclusion. Doubt has no positive place within; for it is only a mental door to a 'convenient stop'. Biology is a scapegoat. Define "Biology".

  • Ah, good point about speculation. What I have, is not doubt. I simply do not partake in a belief without evidence. Do you not doubt Santa Claus?Of course you do. You are the person making the claim of there being a god, therefore, the burden of proof is on your shoulders, not on mine. By Biology, I mean Cell reproduction, Evolution, Genetics, Natural selection and first and foremost, time.

  • Yes, I do indeed believe in "Santa Claus". You see, a little, jolly, cheerful man dressed in red pajamas no? I know the 'Spirit', which has given Joy to many, many, many human beings of all ages throughout this World. He still does too! Thus "Santa Claus" does exist... it is only how, or if, you desire to see him.

  • No. That isn't Santa Claus, its a jolly cheerful man in red PJ's! He's a wonderful fantasy, a story, but, that red pj man doesn't go around the world in one night giving gifts to everyone...In fact, I have red pijamas!

  • From what cell, did the 1st cell reproduce? From what did 'whatever' evolve? Genetics is a down line: from what origin? To select, naturally or not, requires a choice: from what index was the first, of whatever, chosen? Time is merely an invention of man, who broke down existence into convenient fragments- so that we could work 8 to 16 hours a day to pay the bills and make commercialism an empire.

  • Ah! You are asking wether or not I believe in a creator...not "God". They are completely different things. The universe may as well been created by another eternal meta-universe. Maybe the universe has no beggining! To be an atheist (an agnostic atheist might I add), I don't need to lack belief in a creator. I just lack a belief in God. A supreme creator worthy of my praise.

  • You haven't "doubt". Then, you must have certainty. And, certainty must be logically and intelligently based upon factual conclusion, no? Thus, you can, in one line, define the non-existence of Being (under any name: even "God"). In truth, I replied to your claim, that there is not a "God".

  • No. As I just told you, I'm an agnostic atheist. The terms are not mutually exclusive. I don't claim to have knowledge of everything, including the existence of God. I only draw my conclusions, based on evidence(or lack there of), data, an probability. You could say I'm 99.9999% sure God does not exist. But, there is, the smallest, almost invisible possibility of his/her existence.

  • I just published on LuLu a dissertation that I believe you would find 99.9999% + .0001% agreement with. Don't want to sell it here. The problem, as I have always stated in my discussions, rests with a simple human term "God".

  • The Same goes for Santa Claus ... Silvia :-)

  • Thus, let's honestly bounce the ball back into your side of the court, where it rightfully belongs; along with the burden of proof: that a Creator, Origin, Superior Being, Life Itself, does not exist as you have so claimed.

  • Oreder of my reply posts: 4 - 2 -1 -3. Sorry for the confusion with the character limits for each message.

  • ;.( no entiendo nada de lo que dice, que penaaaa!!!! gostaria que falase en portugues o español que sii entendo, obrigadooo

  • i belive that God is Mother and Father. he is certainly not like our parents in the physical plane. God is a whole that goes far beyond the explanation. the imagination and way far beyond than just energy.

  • I dont believe in what they call GOD but I do believe in something more, ok, lets call it God, but I dont think ohh is he or is she ! i just know its a great great energy and its everywhere ! is within me ...

  • I really like this video. I believe God is a spirit, no gender, no definite form.

  • God... There was a time I thought that if there is a God, it should be a woman. God creates everything right?... And I guess that's what women do. But now I think that there is not a man or woman in any God. God is just God. And it is not a man, neither a woman... I think

  • ...and create their own ideas of God, I believe that God represents equality, like Ying Yang, woman and man, darkness and light, so that is what make "Him" perfect, as this world has become in a one sided thing, that's why we are so unorganized and just not equal in every sense.

  • I believe God is father and mother, specially cause "He" is well known as the "Creator" and funny enough, woman is the representation of life and creation specificly, I think religions through time has changed the "face" and the first conception of God as a matter of power and convinience, I'm not saying they are totally false, but we can see through history so many things have happend that has made religions change...
