@bergweg i don't remember. i usually edit a drum pgm the entire time i'm working on a beat. but with JJOS2xl i have the basic break chopped, layered, velocity set, etc etc in 5 minutes maybe? you just got to learn and remember the buttons
well I just installed the free version 3.08 and it made my pads less responsive, so I went back to the akai os 2.12. I will use this until my skills require paying 50 bucks to get the advanced JJ OS. I hope your pads didn't get jacked when you switched.
no, it does not. the 500 has very, very few similar or comparable features to the jjos. what similar features exist in the 500 have been crippled by Akai (kind of like a cell phone company, motorola) to encourage customers to become repeat offenders and purchase a more expensive model. unless the 500 is JUST RIGHT for you, avoid it. i still say avoid any new akai product and buy used, the company doesn't deserve your repeat business
I use Reason and Logic Pro. I am really thinking about getting a 1000, 2500 or even a 5000. What I am wondering is how useful is the real time Pitch Shifting and Time Stretching. It looks like a necessity to me. I have only seen one video clip of someone doing it. I think it was soundsforsamplers. Most people chop samples but they don't time stretch anything. I would love to see you chop a sample and make a quick beat out of it.
though there is a non-recordable real time pitch shifting in the jjos, there is no real time timestretching in the 1000, 2500, or 5000. the video you saw is mistitled and misreferenced, all that's happening there is pitching and patched phrasing.
however, using loop functions and chopping note per note, you can drop your samples in and tune them all at once up and down or speed /slow down your track a long ways, without timestretching. sounds better, too.
how long did it take you to build this particular drum kit?

You should teach a class on using the MPC lol. Would you happen to know where I could get a copy of the JJ OS for free?

you need to learn how to adjust your pad sensitivity settings.

I do know how... in the Other section and they are always on maximum.

Agreed. I bought one and took it right back because it was missing key features you find on higher models.
