Outside of one, yeah. I thought it was an interesting background and an odd place for a chat. Most videos of talking heads you see, people are talking into their webcams, which to me is pretty boring.
no one but filmmakers/film students will notice the form of your film. Youtube is all about content, so even if there were serious distractions in your film langauge, it wouldn't be any different from what they normally see on youtube.
I think YouTube is intended for art, but because it has become so mainstream everyone feels they need to upload videos of their dog skateboarding, for example. This doesn't mean that YouTube has no Director community. In fact, at the top of the page, you can click "Channels" then on the left "Directors." From what I Understand directors are people who generally make unique content, so at least that eliminates the people who just upload old Simpsons episodes or something.
Furthermore, I believe any YouTube user with original content can request from YouTube a special "Director" account, which gives you cool features like being able to upload videos longer than 10 minutes, among other things. A number of accounts to which I am subscribed are just that, runawaybox and Moish711 come to mind right away. I say keep doing what you do, and it is bound to catch on.
Thanks for the support. I tried a while ago to find out more about the Director status, but to my chagrin, YouTube has discontinued this distinction. Thus, those who already applied are still listed as such, but nobody else can get one.
According to a youtube help page I read, anyone can become a director without having to fill out a form. It says you go to your channel info page, click "change channel type" and apparently director should be an option there. At youtube dot com/my_profile - it is at the bottom.
Isaac, You shouldnt feel discuraged by the general attitude of the YouTube community. The fact is that No this is not the best place for art. I dont believe that this was intended for art but that does not mean that its not a place to post it. To be honest the best place for video as art is in a gallary of sorts, but this is also not a bad place to start. Personally Isaac i very much hope that you keep on posting them here because I do enjoy watching.
Thanks! I am currently waiting for a cable to come in the mail---my dad is sending me one that should be compatible with my laptop---hopefully, I'll be able to edit movies while still on campus! And I definitely think that a video art gallery would be a cool idea..

You are VERY right about that dude. I've been trying to get involved with filmmaker on here, but it's just flooded with hundreds of thousands of horrible, useless clips. I've kind of had no choice really but to put pathetic videos out just so people would look at my channel and by and off chance be interested in filmmaking. It's pretty sad, haha. Youtube is basically like sifting through a neighbors trashcan and every so often coming across something interesting.
Your work is very exiting and I know you'll be generating quality pieces for a long time! My guess is that your big break will come, but not from YouTube---it seems like this site is about instant gratification, from the side of the viewer (who will usually go for low risk-high reward) but also the creator---it's great to see that people are watching and enjoying what you've made. And that helps you to make the next one!
dude, are you sitting in a closet?
