  • Everyone seems to wants your version of this song to be more 'dirty' and 'gritty'. I love your cover of the song, but I'd be more than willing to wrestle with you in the mud, if you think it would help -- you know, for art sake, of course. ;-)

    Hee, hee, hee....

  • I think its the gutter they're hoping for. A good bit of farm mud wouldn't quite do it for them !

  • @COVEYWOOD Perhaps not, but it would be good for laughs and giggles. ;-) LOL!!

  • love this song !!! ..made me want a Ukulele - ..so I got me a KALA electric and sore fingertips and a big grin..!

  • As a purist Lou Reed fan I made up my mind that I would hate it, but it's a different song. I like it a lot, very good, novel approach. shows Reed's genius to be able make this change. Reminds me of Jose Feliciano doing "Light my Fire". I hated it at first. Doores were better. Then I thought of it as a different song. It was, and is, great

  • This song is about male to female transexuals and male prostitutes. There femine charecteristics forced them to live in societys urban margins. This atractively feimine born woman walking through the woods gives the impression of never having seen anything of that sort.

  • Great cover made with respect and love

  • I'm assuming the 12 people who thumbed this down were startled by the, "OOPS" incident because the song is great. I like how they turned such a gritty song into such a smooth and unique tune. Coveywood I've appreciated all of your ukelele demos. I would be excited to see more strumming demonstrations.

  • I.....really enjoyed that! :D

  • I have very mixed feelings about this. Amy has a wonderful voice and a marvelous "presence". But ... ... this song requires MENACE. Amy couldn't manage menace if she had it served to her on a platter surrounded by watercress. Terrific talent, just an unfortunate choice of material.

  • Just depends how you like your sex I guess, Juneberry. Hopefully your platter has enough menace in the watercress to ring your bell. :-)

  • @COVEYWOOD please fix the video so that i can hear the whole thing. i would like to put it on my mp3 but you have to fix the video first. it starts over at about 3:30.

  • @juneberrydesign this is true. this song is about the under belly , dirty, gross, AMAZING counter culture in the USA in the 60s and 70s. done well but you need to dirty and grimy and you're not..

  • @juneberrydesign i disagree, its a cover of a song, the point is to make it her own, if you want a grittier version go and listen to the original! i like it.

having said that the original one is the goods!

  • This is a darned good cover of Lou Reed's classic. The ukelele opening, followed by a gorgeous Amy Schoeter with a sweet voice, and then the backup Pindrop Band sliding in oh so gently on the harmonica makes those "dislikes thumbers" look like fools. I get a kick out of Amy shyly whispering about Candy never losing her head, not even when she was... But everybody should immediately skip to 3:34 so they can bypass the "oops" and enjoy an uninterupted Walk On The Wild Side by The Pindrop Band.

  • You've been around - you get the picture. Thanks

  • @COVEYWOOD

I can not get over how everything is perfect here: the violins enter at the precise moment; the ukelele lays back until the single-note-phrasing rings out with splendor and then....; but by far, the most exciting thing about everything is: the essence of the message. It resounds with perfection: i.e. innocence discovers sexual awareness. Lou Reed laid his message out, but Amy presents that message with an innocence which can not be matched by any cover I have heard, ever.

  • Really Good

  • She has a lovely voice. Really wonderful. I'd love to hear her do something else. This was kind of an odd choice. This is a very gritty song being sung sweetly. Kind of incongruous.

  • cool

  • Who are you the SS German? I'm sorry!

  • Who are you the SS German?

  • Jesus! I love her

  • Just to add to all the other comments: yeah. The best cover I've heard.

  • Lindaaaaaaa. Bella dama, excelente interpretación!

  • A very pretty version:)

  • super !!

  • Miss Amy's cover takes the edge off of "The Wild Side". A most excellent performance! Would like to hear more from her. Where did she go? The music was stellar also. Thank You for posting.

  • could have been a whole lot worse but leave the singing to the professionals or atleast the songs original author.

  • Ah Amy, I love ya!

  • I love this! Great stuff! -No offense to Lou Reed. He's the king! ;)

  • not gonna lie this version kills lou reed's

  • wooooooooow i looveeee it!!

  • very good...

  • I love this cover Amy is as beautiful as talented! PLEASE give us more of this tune - maybe live.!!!!

  • OMG, completely ruined the song. You have a nice voice but please stay away from Lou Reed music.

  • You got it babe, the x-factor, sorry about the comparisation...I hate the program,...let s say, you got that special thing to make me watch the whole video, and want to hear more........

  • WOw i like the old song much more better , too bad no one know the other parts of the song , which play for a 5 minuts extra this had to du with suaside .....

  • Wow! The singer is as beautiful as she is at good at singing.

  • the ukulele sounds great on this tune, very very well done. Best cover I have ever heard of this song

  • thanks Ned, on the other side where the grass is b l u e

  • Its amazing how a I can hate a song for years till some one with tallent retools it.

  • Beautiful

  • oh and really admirable uke playing. simple and nostalgic!! kudos ;)

  • Aaah, you get the plot ! Simplicity is a wonderful and refreshing thing sometimes. Thank you

  • So lovely. =)

  • OMG.

  • so so good ........

  • this is the Best cover I have ever heard of this song, It would make Lou Reed Smile !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Where are you Lou ?! Look through the coments over the last year and the Comments go in phases from the very positive to the furiously negative. We're in a good patch ! Thanks for the post.

  • very very nice

  • just great

  • Thank you in spain

  • just blown away by this version. great vocals and arrangement.

  • Isn't she great ! Glad you enjoyed our bit of fun.

  • awesome cover!!!

  • Yay !

  • Love this version! Amy sure has "it". Great voice and absolutely GORGEOUS. I found the "Long Way Around" rehearsal on here after it had been moved. Love her in that as well. You guys are really great. How about coming to Texas? Austin would be a good venue for y'all.

  • Yes please :-)

  • I love her voice, but I don't think they realize this song is about cross dressers, whores homosexuals and drug addicts, in fact she gives it a nice clean family feel

  • Oh they realize. They take her into the country. smiling from ear to ear, their tongues firmly in their cheeks. Such are the ways of Sugar Plum Fairies.

  • :-)

  • Sehr gut :)

I like this cover. Awesome voice!

    ~Dan

  • Great voice, but the vid?...

  • s'gut, nein ?

  • As soon as she started singing it made me so happy! It's got sort of the effect that "Here Comes The Sun" has.

  • We see things not as they are, but as we are.' Thank you sunny one :-)

  • Oh my god I know that quote!! It's Stephen Covey!

Yes I am unnaturally happy and I just have to figure out how to get other people to see life the way I do :P

  • But don't be scared of the dark.

  • No the dark is calm, depending on what dark we are talking about.

  • aubergine dark

  • :) I like that word.

  • i like it. i love the original, but i like it. it takes a lot of guts to cover a song as classic as this. its is guaranteed that some people wont like just because its different.

  • I agree with the comments before mine.

The girl's voice is great, but, a great song

has been destroyed in the process.

    Sorry, it's just my opinion.

There's other songs I'd like to see(hear) this girl cover and

    I think she'd kick serious a*s.

  • An honest opinion. This video has attracted a lot of discussion. I'm with you about Amy - she's magnetic.

  • as a song it's good....

but as a cover of take a walk on the wild side by lou reed it has nothing he would have felt.... I don't know... you did turn it into something of your own but i no like.

  • I dont think that the emotion Lou Reed wanted the song to have is not present at all in this version

  • why is everyone trying suck jack johnson off nowadays , this song wasnt meant for this.

  • she has such a beautiful voice!

  • Brilliant!

  • Very nice cover. I am impressed. But, JoCo's 'Baby Got Back' is still my favorite cover song.

  • Wow, there is a lot of good music coming from the UK lately. Great song and group. Please try to get more of your music up. Youtube is great for finding so called "undiscovered" groups.

A couple months ago I heard Laura Marling for the first time as well.

    Looking forward to hearing more.

  • This is a really good cover. She has a good voice.

  • Been listening to this now for 4 months -

    Still just a bit special

    Congrats!!

  • she is great btw :)

  • I like it... Still love the original though

  • Where can I buy this song?

  • I really like your music videos. In fact I liked this one enough share it on my tumblr blog.

  • nice cover!

  • Wow, what a very beautiful version of this song!! Maybe you wanna listen my version, which is also a completely different interpretation...

    Harry

  • This is quite excellent. The song can be interpreted so so many ways and this is great. And she even had the integrity to handle the "coloured girls" part correctly by leaving it intact...

  • i think it's the best take a walk on the wild side's cover!!!! really great!!! answer me!

  • yes yes yes Gogobones - and thank you !

  • very goood cover!

  • Really great cover !! so many covers just fall at the last fence .... but i came away with a really great feeling x different arrangment x and just vocals that keep the whole feel of the original xx

    Superb x love chris

  • Its a good feeling - quite how these things happen I dunno. This recording started just as a uke and voice thing with two mics at Rehearsal. I just loved the vocal and took it into the Strawdio and added (and added and added!) til we got the full track. Amy has something transcendent in her voice. Thanks for the post - Piers

  • fantastic

  • Oh my God! - the most gorgeous woman since Debbie Harry. Beautiful voice and I love the grin when she sings "even when she was giving head..."

  • I love your version of this song, I've loved and known this tune for a long time now. Good job, your eyes are so gorgeous sweetie pie, voice is awesome. I wonder what Simon Cowell would think. You are good, I like it! My name is Joe and I do walk on the "Wild Side". Adios.

  • Good interpretation of this great song'S i think lou reed should be proud of this original colored and fresh song

  • Wow, I absoutely loved this cover. I enjoyed the lightheartedness. I also appreciated it how you remained really faithful to the original while still making it your own -- that's a hard thing to accomplish!

    Cheers!

  • We had so much fun doing this - its one of my all time favourite songs and it seemed to welcome this light hearted, sunny, country take. Really glad you like it.

  • ya lou would dig that!

  • I found your video after posting my Ukulele version of the same song,....WOW!

    I LOVE YOUR VERSION!

    Wish I had your voice...

    Great cover...5 star!

  • Thanks Clay. Uke versions of Wildside rule, OK ! Piers

  • I loooooove this video, you guys are great job! Especially the uke!

  • I love it. I'll bet Lou would love it as well. Get that rough sound and soul.

  • Whats his email ? I'd be so curious to know how he'd find this. Thanks you old ski bum. Piers

  • im subscribing, i just got a ukulele but i tune it to what they say and none of the chords sound right! help!

  • Sorry about this - a few people have struggled to make sense of the fact that I tune the Uke a tone higher than averyone els ( atrick an old fella taught me to get a crisper tone). Either tune it up a tone or grab a capo and put it on the 2nd fret. Good luck - it will be worth it. Piers

  • brilliant...

  • Kudos to the girl for being brave enough to perform and put it up on the net, but this version kills the song. Lou Reed's voice had the cool factor that gave the song an edge. This cover sounds like some country song.

  • Mr Shupe Mr Shupe - its meant to be a spoof, to be a spoof. If it sounds country then we've succeeded, old bean.

  • The cool thing about this cover is that it DOESN'T sound like Lou's version. If I wanted to hear that, I'd listen to Lou Reed.

"The art of interpretation is not to play what is written". Pablo Casals

  • Interesting comment. Its different because I actually wrote a melody for what Lou raps. It works curiously well, to the extent that many people don't even noticed we've made the rap nto a song. thanks for the post. Piers

  • wauw! that voice, amazing :)

  • Dani - I've watched your "Like a Star" video. what are you doing with singing ? You've really got something special going on there. come and sing at the Pindrop Club sometime. Piers

  • oo srry again ;P

u shud try out for the X-factor idol show!!! (english singing competition)

wooah ur lyke leona lewis cuz she can sing and not sound british so can u!,,,its awesum ;P

  • it doesnt sound lyke your english cause u sing so well tht it covers up the accent,,realli realli good ;P

  • ooo ur from the UK? ehh?!? wooah lol i hav cousins living there,,srryz dnt speak english slang ;p

butt yeahh ur version is awesum (:

  • i hate the original song,,,butt ur version is wooahh,,,awesumm XD

  • wooah...awesumm - I like that. We speak differently in UK and have difficulty raising our voices. Enthusiasm (means having Zeus in you)is a wonderful quality.

  • nicely done - very nice

  • It happens only rarely but sometimes you stubble across an absolute GEM amidst the rubbish on youtube, tonight has been one of those great finds :)- Love the simple editting, vocals and cracking tune... Top Job!

  • Hey ! Hey hey ! :-) Piers

  • I like better than original, beacouse of the second best ukulele strum in the world :P

  • What a great version of Lou's classic... tremendous.

  • In contrast to some of the comments left here, I think this is really good. Well done!

  • she looks straight out of the vineyard, anyone explained her what this song is all about?????

  • davvero questa versione di take a walk on the wild side nulla toglie al brano originale ma, ne esalta tutta la bellezza

  • davvero questa versione di take walk on the wild side è molto bella e nulla toglie al brano originale.

  • Nice, don't let the critics get to ya. You have created a new genre, well done!

  • Ardie - a patch of blue sky !

  • id call it alterna-folk

  • Tres cool version. Sh*tty music video, though! lol

  • I'm taking a hammering with this video. You should see my face.

  • Great video and song. I'm not trying to be critical but it sounds pretty mushy and the vocals are waaaay over mixed. Sort of the mazzy star effect going there. I think if it was cleaned up it would be brilliant.

    The singer is lovely.

  • BUT BUT BUT . . . mushy, overmixed, mazzy, star effecty was what we were going for ! This is meant to be tongue in cheeeeek guys.

But thanks for the post and I'll tell Amy you liked her singing.

  • beautiful sound but the video has the thoughtful insight of a britney spears video

  • aah . . . the rural ribbing of this urban anthem didn't reach you.

  • good job!

  • awesome song. lovely vocals, gorgious vocalist. Thanks for posting!

  • You struck a perfect balance of production and instrumentation, an understated approach with a great simple video.

another great Coveywood post. alright, fine, you jerk, I'll subscribe.

  • got you in a corner, eh !

  • i like this song its great niice voice!

  • Absolutley amasing,a fault less cover!!! I'm with urnfnidiot on this i would love a copy of this...

  • I WANT THIS ON MY iPOD

  • any word on that link?
