I've heard the original recording of this song from 1904. It makes me laugh to myself. The Internet, jet plane, texting, penicillin, the Kardashian products, the Arthur Miller plays, FDR's leadership, laser surgery, ATMs, bullet trains, atomic energy, television, and everything else that has "improved" the experience of life in the last 108 days has not changed the truth of this song.
Love IT.... amazin show ... amazin music! Just saw that the band backing Stephen DeRosa is Vince Giordano's Nighthawks. They play at Sofia's [221 W. 46th St. NYC] every Monday and Tues nights] How cool is that!!!
@Force170 So true. I watched a show on the making of Boardwalk Empire, and they said that they actually had to hire forensic anthropologists and music historians to find the authentic music from that time, because so much of it had been lost. Many of the songs on the show are only now being heard for the first time since the 20's because their team is uncovering them through very intensive research.
Marvellous, simply marvellous.

Life's a very funny proposition you can bet
And no ones ever solved the problem properly as yet
Young for a day, then old and grey
Like the the rose that buds and blooms, and fade's and falls away
Loosing health to gain our wealth, as through this dream we tour
Everything's a guess, and nothings absolutely sure
Battles exciting, and fates were fighting until the curtain fall
Life's a very funny proposition after all.

Life's a very funny proposition after all,
Imagination, jealousy, hypocrisy and all.
Three meals a day, a whole lot to say;
When you haven't got the coin you're always in the way.
Ev'rybody's fighting as we wend our way along,
Ev'ry fellow claims the other fellow's in the wrong;
Hurried and worried until we're buried and there's no curtain call.
Life's a very funny proposition after all.

Great montage, song, and performance. Very cinematic and evocative of the time. Perfect way to end the season.

God, I love this show. The music makes the show so much better too. All this great music I probably would never hear if it weren't for this show.
