Baptism is very important because by baptism, one is born again and the Holy Spirit lives in him/her. Baptism is important for salvation. Parents should baptise thier children at the first opportunity in the child's life. If the child grows up to choose a different life from christianity, thats between the individual and God. At least the parents did thier duty to introduce the child to God.
I agree with this...so true...besides if one grows up and doesnt want to be a christian or whatever than the "baptism" doesnt mean anything to that person so what does it matter if the child is baptized when they are a baby or not?
Confirmation though is a different story...one must be old enough but confirmation isnt what saves you...baptism is..i agree with everything you said
1 Peter 3:20-22...patience of Godkept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water.
Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you-not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience-through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
)who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.
Jesus was old enough to understand what baptism meant. But other children are baptised when they are babies and that might be against their future will.
I beg to disagree, a child should have the right of decision, ba[ptizingf a child against his unknowing wish could in later years have right of opting out. I am not against baptism mind you, I am and I am a catholic, but I also respect the freedom of the person.
Well then if you are catholic then you are going against the Church teachings and against what the Bible says and the ECF says. Jesus flats out states the insturction. Jn 3;5 and Mk 16;16 states that baptism is required for entry of Heaven. Jesus says about the children and babies "let them come to me. If the babies were not allowed then show me where it says that babies cant be baptized because what scripture supports what the Church believes
No, I am not going against the Church teaching. I baptized al my children. In this day and age we we should be given a chance of choice, We can preach but children today have another idea. I rather have a good unbaptised person than a person that is baptized and is bad.
you are when you think baptizing babies is wrong...I can show you in the CCC where it says to...no where in the CCC nor does in the bible says "baptize children only when they chose to"...in fact it says the opposite...
it seems that the Apostles didnt think so nor does the ECF who were taught by the apostles think so either...they baptized babies...i think the confusion is baptism and confirmation...which i will make a video soon about that sacrament that Christ instructed
Jesus didnt need to be baptized...he was not in the state of orginal sin. He was fully aware way before he became an adult...remember when he was 12 years old and he stayed back and he was in the temple?
Yes, I agree with you, he was only baptised to give an exaple to his followers. But I have to resmind you a case, many years ago when a person of age he asked the Pope to "unbaptize" him and the Pope did something, propably prayed for the man but he said that he was free.
Im going by what the Church teaches....I can list the CCC quotes of the requirement of baptism aslo but I thought scripture would be enough...for one cant argue scripture. Jesus felt the need to tell us the requirement of entering Heaven and he also enocurges children and babies to come to him for the kingdom belongs to them. If baptizing babies is wrong then Jesus is wrong...
I am fullly aware of the needs, but I am looking over today's world. "we" baptize a boy and when is is about 18 he gerts in the wrong compant, he steals, murder and do awful things. I am suggesting that if a person grown up and choose to be baptized then he know what is wreong and what is expected from him. That is many people's idea as well. Sad, but that is life.
it has nothing to do with what one thinks...it doesnt matter about today's world...more so for the importance of baptism...you know? Im just going by what the scripture says and what the Church says about infant baptism...and that is the church teachings not what we think it is what God thinks...
Church teaching isn't subject to social influence. If social influence said that changing bread into the Body of Jesus was overrated or any other example such as this our Church would have broken hundereds of years ago and we would no longer be Catholic. Sprinkleing the word choice on everything doesn't make it the right.
beautiful:)
