  • you don't need to run ableton at all you should be able to sound flower straight into the standalone version of artillery and reactor

  • Love the concept. One problem. If you're running your audio out into Ableton and you can only select one sound card option in Traktor, how do you listen to a track in your cue? Do you send your monitor signal to a separate channel in Ableton?

  • This tut is perfect!

It teachs how to use traktor "in" ableton and teachs you some daft punk music! ;D

Good work man, really easy with your tutorial

  • Question...I'm using Stutter Edit by Izotope... Can you help with routing it together with Traktor Pro?

  • Good work dude !!

  • @armyofme4340

No... even when I'm running only traktor and using Maschine as a midi controller, it does the same freezing business:(

So I'm stuck... And I have a CPU monitor which shows 3-9% usege. It's nothing I suppose. Can it be that the controller is wrong from factory? It's like 3months old though, and it doesnt do it with other programs... Or my mapping /witch is pretty complex/ is too heavy for it?

    Thx for responding;)

  • @rigo1911 I would call NI and see what is up then. My maschine mapping was very detailed as well and i never had a problem.

  • hey @armyofme4340

i've watched many of your tutorials and thx for sharing them! pretty useful. that's why i thought u might be able to help me

i'm using traktor rooted into ableton and the maschine vst opened that i can drop loops from the masch software... but when i'm djing the maschine controller freezes pretty often... first just the LEDs /out signal/ freeze and few minutes later the hole controller is dead:S if i un- and replug everything goes back to normal... any idea why it happens?

    P&L

  • @rigo1911 Thanks for watching and supporting. I'm not sure why that is happening. Maybe your processor is getting overloaded running those 3 programs. I have no problem running maschine and traktor together. I've done a couple sets like that. But never all 3 of them. I understand that you're running maschine as a vst so technically you only have 2 programs open. I would say try cleaning out your comp and not running anything, even internet while attempting this set. Hope that works out.

  • THANKS ALOT !! i was looking for this ! very helpfull !! btw soundflower is for mac for PC there is an equivalent called JACK

    web page: jackaudio(DOT)org/download :D

  • TY for this.

  • wow, thanks .. you are awesome!!!

  • i have everything set-up exactly as you said, but my keyboard isnt being recognized by "the finger". how exactly do i go about connecting it properly?

great video by the way! thanks for your help

  • Great little video mate! Keep em up, you got a new subscriber!

  • MOTHERFUCKING FINALLY!!!!......I haven't been able to get The Finger up and running in Ableton until I stumbled onto this video!!!! You are a lifesaver, grrlygrrl :)

  • This is a great tutorial! I am working on a setup right now doing this same thing but using maschine 1.6 now that it supports vsts, and I can switch between controlling maschine and traktor with the controller, but trigger stutter edit with the keys at all times. It's awesome!

  • most awesome tutorial EVER !!

really clear really helpful tutorial, sincerely thanks for sharing

  • Anybody experience issues with this and the Kontrol S4? My audio sounds like its playing through a tin can...

  • really helpful tutorial, sincerely thanks for sharing. It seems more than one key were triggered every time I press one key on my MIDI keyboard...any idea where went wrong ? Where can we set up midi mapping on Artillery ?

    Thanks anyway !!

  • Massive tutorial. Dug your other video on mapping the sweep effect combo to one knob. Really helpful, creative stuff. Thanks.

  • I like this tutorial. Unfortunately, I use Windows 7. I looked at Jack as an alternative to Soundflower and it looks just as complicated as Virtual Audio Cables (or worse).

I want to use Ableton to trigger one shots and accapellas as well as use Ableton's VST capabilities to clean up the audio I have syncing in Ableton to Traktor's MIDI clock. In other words, I want to use the Moldover compression technique to prevent EQ clashes in both Ableton and Traktor as they sync tempo.

    Any ideas?

  • this is really great, thank you so much.

with the s4 software released and the new traktor 2 pro, alot of people are wondering how to live jamming of traktor through software like the finger, or the new stutter edit, and then record that back into traktor using the record line in function new to traktor s4 and traktor 2.

this would allow your jam to become a part of the mix.

do you think this is possible?

  • Also, I've had major problems with the midi clock from Traktor to ableton, I guess its a problem in ableton. The BPMS with jump like a mo-fo in Live while traktor stays constant. If anyone has a solution, reply to this cause I will give you a hug

  • @MegaBabySlayer look at dubspot's video for how to sync traktor and ableton the right way

  • Hey, DO NOT USE SOUNDFLOWER! I do not know how much to stress this, it pops and cracks and in the end, sucks. Google JackOSX and make sure to go into the pref to make 4 channels. ZERO PROBLEMS with jack while soundflower was a waste of time

  • the effects are not really synced but the that is because of the bpm in live right???

  • @MrRidisc I'm thinking the same. You can send MIDI-clock from Traktor to LIVE though and work this out ;)

  • Daft Punk FTW...

  • How does this work on PC? Through REWIRE?

  • OMFG! I am amazed that Traktor doesn't have native VST plugin's for all other NI products! Why this is not straight forward? Two other programs required to route the sound?! Thats crazy!

I'll wait for riphone app heheh :)

  • very tight tutorial :) can you adjust the dry-wet of the effects universally, or does each effect have to have a dry-wet preset only reason i ask is so I could jam away while rocking the dry-wet param just like in traktor

  • @01freezer01 yeah you can. it all depends on the vst. but you can map it to your controller from ableton.

  • @armyofme4340 Thanks for the reply:) so artillery has a universal dry-feature??? ie all effects are controlled by one knob??

  • @armyofme4340

Nice vid, thanks for all your tutorials.

For windows and other users, there is a JACK program instead of soundflower

    jackaudio. org

  • @gaidjin i have just downloaded jack and now confused with the setting. trying to figure out, it will be great if you can help me with the basics of getting it to work. as of now, i cannot find JACK on my TSP output master drop down.

  • @01freezer01 you can probably try to map it to an effect rack macro and then map that macro to a knob. it's worth a shot. I believe it does have a universal dry/wet but i'm not too sure.

  • Doesn't it generate a lot of delay when you route Traktor via SoundFlower to Ableton?

  • @Wasserbutz No delay at all. I'm sure there are some millisecond delays, but the latency isn't noticeable. Dubspot has a good video on how to route them and also sync them

  • @armyofme4340

That's interesting, because I tried the exact same setup with soundflower and the result is a lot (>20 msecs) delay or jitter.

  • Thank-x for video its only for Mac OS X. i just wondering i there any thing for windows?

  • very nice video. you seem to have much knowledge for your age. i will subscribe. Greetings from Germany

  • You videos are really helpful :) Thank you!

  • Hi, I really appreciate this viddy.

I wanna get my M-Audio trigger finger to work with Traktor. Is this the exact same thing, or? Sorry for the chance of this beeing a daft question, but it's so time consuming to try and find everything out myself, so why not ask the "masters" instead.

    Thanks

  • @RobDeLarge Yes it will. It's the exact same thing. Your trigger finger sends out notes just like a keyboard or any other midi instrument.

  • @armyofme4340

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate your help, I will buy another midi pad in a bit and I am selling my trigger finger in august, what do you recommend?

  • @RobDeLarge um maschine is great, but the trigger finger is good enough. plus with maschine you also get the software which is amazing. you could also try getting a novation launch pad that would work well and it's only 150 right now

  • you can use IAC Driver under Mac OS X, and with the Midi Yoke freeware

tool on Windows for sound routing,

  • Nice tutorial, but i think it wont work with external mixing and scratch vinyl control. Since, when u choose soundflower as your audio device u cannot configure your audio 8 ins/outs to the decks, which would be necessary. If i pick soundflower as my audio device my decks refuse to play when i start them via my turntables.

Am i getting smth wrong, do you have a clue?

  • @anyboySAE

Hey I have a video on how to do this with a turntable soundcard setup just browse the rest of my videos.

You would have to aggregate your soundcard with soundflower to create one device for traktor to read.

Let me know if you still need help after this.

  • test

  • Since I don't own a Mac, I can't use Soundflower, i need something the same/similar for PC

    cheers

  • try using your asio driver. I don't know how to route it for a windows computer. But I believe if you use your Asio driver you can do it that way, not sure how though.

  • @Doctargh u need a product named " ASIO 4 ALL" it lets you combine multiple cards into one, then you can configure what card is responsible for what when routing. Hope You find this usefull and Good Luck

  • hey, just wondering about getting bpm in sync with artillery... isnt this neccasary to make the loopers etc work in time with the track?? thanks for the post!!!

  • what you can do is set it to a midi knob of fader and change it to match what your temp is in Traktor.

I haven't figured out how to sync it with traktor.

  • Hi, I'm trying to do something and wondering if you'd know if it's possible. I want to play a loop in ableton through a deck in traktor and the decks effects and back into ableton, in real time for production. Have you used the audio through in ableton

  • Yeah just use this technique to send your audio to traktor and in ableton set the channel with the loop to any 2 soundflower channels and then in traktor set a deck to audio through and set those same two channels of soundflower you set in ableton in traktor's input for let's say deck D then under deck D click on the little triangle below the deck focus and set it to audio through.

That should do it. It's just a little routing!

  • very nice, thx!

  • nice video, pretty informative. you don't mention about External mixing in traktor though, how would people go with in case they might want to add this ableton setup. Anyway, it shouldn't be difficult, you'll just have to rout the effects to more channels in ableton I suppose.

  • Exactly. All you have to do is route each channel to a different soundflower bed channel and they will come in as one IN channel in an audio track in ableton.

Sorry I forgot to add that. I usually mix internal, but For all of my turntable friends out there, use the same technique only route your channels to different soundflowerbed channels and they will come in as one in ableton.

  • nice!!
