It's too bad Ukraine doesn't have a real government. It does have a bunch of thugs dividing the spoils of the Soviets and handouts from EU and USA with no interest in the country and creating divisiveness among the people.
Mostly things are bad. In Crimea (the Russian part of Ukraine) things are better.
Sure, they can hold Euro-2012 in Donetsk! Provided the journalists sleep in tents in the park, and the VIPs bring sleeping-bags to stay in the school hall.
Oh, and bring oxygen equipment - the local air is three parts coaldust, two parts lead and one part asbestos.
For Ukrainians it would have been better if a new factory opened...but at least several hundred people got jobs in the construction sector for several months.
I hope it doesn´t end bad as the 1992 Seville Expo in Spain which did cost a lot of money and didn´t have much return on cash. It meant more debt for the Spanish Government and the 1993 economic crisis was hard.
Say thanks to Ushenko who not only ruined economic and metal industry, but even vetoed Rada's law to send additional money for EURO preparations.
Truly an enemy of Ukrainians.
Actually Donetzk and Dniepropetrovsk stadiums were built on club's money, not on budget money. Ukrainian authorities was so busy to divide stealed money, and the result we can see now - terrible preparations, no hotels, no new airports.
Typical Yuschenko - he wants the money and celebrity from Euro-2012, but he's only ready to invest $26.85 to attract this. Like Donetsk *needs* twelve new hotels? They will be empty forever afterwards, no-one goes to this polluted shithole normally.
300,000 annually? Nowhere *near* enough high-quality accommodation to stage Euro-2012. Do your sums before you post. Even Kiev doesn't have enough hotel space.

The Marshal is right. Ukraine is hurting in capacity but I believe Harkiv will be prepared. I saw many structures going up. (Metallist! Metallist!)
