There is a 20 meter line that attaches to a air canister inside the raft. the rafts are held down on deck in a cradle (not like this rig up) if you can not release the raft your self there is a hydrostatic cutting release attached to the cradle that separates the raft from the ship allowing it to float. the line pulls out and inflates the raft.
liferafts inflate only when the painter (the rope) is pulled out completely, then tugged. the hydrostatic release system releases the liferaft from the deck (letting it float free) when 4-6 or so (not sure exactly what depth) meters underwater.... this works off a diaphragm and will not release because of a deck wash. :)
I just know this stuff because of my field of work, just trying to be informative... not a smart-ass
yea need to put flaps on there scuppers, worked on many a boat like this i like to call them wet deck boats still very seaworthy...a lot of boat below the water.
and out back not too much of a sea running nice gental day in the soup bowl
eh, looks like the back deck of a tug or a small osv? Ive been a mate on something similar, 20 knot wind and 6' seas and the back deck will be awash lol, not fun taking it off the beam, but not really that bad in all perspective.

the life raft wont inflate just coz it gets wet its water PRESSURE that does that. once it gets 2 or 3 metres underwater is when it pops.

Ha ha, i was thinking the exact same thing.

i think it might be a bit of a design flaw as the boats will inflate and release as soon as they get some proper water on deck
rednut18 2 years ago
it couldnt of been too rough considering how fast the boat was going, just a poorly designed deck imo.
