Maybe im too fussy, but it really bugs me when u can see all the creased liner above the water line. when i built my pond, i left a 3 inch overhang in bricks before bedding on the soldier course.

pond is a little shallow. birds can jump in and eat your fish.. the net is a good idea to keep them off...

if you die the water it will get rid of the bird problem and put like a fake iguana (not like ugly looking fke one) next to it thats what i did that crane never came back

the die makes the water darker and birds such as a crane cant see into the water its actually made for fish ponds and is usually a blue to a dark teal

I dont want to knock your hard work, it does look very nice, but koi ponds should be around 5 foot deep. Have you thought about raising it above ground a bit too? Maybe even put in a nice viewing window! :D

Thanks for the comment. Yes, this was the first time I had dug a pond (the little pre formed one you saw earlier in the video was the biggest I had used previously), and it seemed like it was going to be easily deep enough while digging it. However as I have got more into the hobby I have discovered that the pond isn't really deep enough for large Koi. This is fine while mine are smaller but I will be making it much deeper next summer :)

Same depth as mine mate, its about 2'6".

As soon as I saw other peoples ponds I was imemediately planning on building a wall around the edge of mine to be able to raise the water level by about 2ft.

But I'm not really that bothered at all now. It'd cost me a lot more to maintain and clean with it being 2k+ gallons.

Just curious mate, how long have you had the small koi? and how much have they grown? I've had one now since october and it hasn't grown much at all.

Well I had 4 koi (more actually but a couple got eaten by the heron :( ) last year in the small pond, and then 2 new (chagoi and soragoi) koi this year. Since being in the new pond a couple of months they are coming on great. The little ones are soo greedy they just eat non stop.

How often and what kind of feed do you give your koi?

I give mine floating pellets, 40% protein

The problem I have is that my fish ( especially my koi) rarely come up to the surface to feed. Its deffinately been above 14C as you'd know being in UK as well. I've had no issues with cats or herons, its really annoying because on the first fews I bought them they were handfeeding.

My koi spends most his time hiding in between big rocks I put in, would you reccomend me taking the rocks out so that the koi becomes used to being out in the open?

hi i have 4 foot deep koi pond that has worked fine for the last ten years, may i suggest that when you dig it deeper you put a bottom drain in, i use no heating whatsoever on my pond and it has never frozen yet not even a thin film of ice.

No I got the netting from a local hardware store, specially designed for ponds. It was £7 if I remember correctly.

I have only just built this pond a few days ago as the winter weather is coming to an end. But the previous pond had Koi in throughout the winter with no problems.
