Society has really broken down many young people to the point that they don't give a rats behind about nothing, because they have nothing, have been taught nothing useful, and when they become teenagers they realize this. Hence the anger. I had to re-educate myself on my own after I left the "education" system, to be able to function. I had no idea about real life after all those years in school, and I was considered a very good student. How does that make sense?

He clearly states they are moral agents, but "lack of respect", "discipline and ethnicity", and poverty are not root causes, they are effects. Respect is something that is taught in the home, hence the emphasis on single parent households. Discipline is a concept that is not understood in most family units, threats and punishments (violence) are typically used as "disciplinary" actions and poverty is the result of gvt. violence.

Society has really broken down many young people to the point that they don't give a rats behind about nothing, because they have nothing, have been taught nothing useful, and when they become teenagers they realize this. Hence the anger. I had to re-educate myself on my own after I left the "education" system, to be able to function. I had no idea about real life after all those years in school, and I was considered a very good student. How does that make sense?

I've studied social work and lived in this society. There are a number of people what we call Chavs... these people live in a society were they aren’t scared of the justice system... they know their parents can't do anything or they will get jailed and the police are powerless.
So they grow up without any structure to live by and because of that they don't care about taking the moral path

The NHS was recently discovered to be the most efficient universal healthcare in the WORLD! What Stefan was most likely quoting was the Civitas study that showed higher rates of criminality, drug use, prostitution, violent behavior, dropout rates among single mother families, than two parent families.
Two parent families can also produce bad outcomes for children, but at much lower rates than single mothers.

@360john360 I don't think Stef is making excuses for the rioters. He clearly states they are moral agents, but "lack of respect", "discipline and ethnicity", and poverty are not root causes, they are effects. Respect is something that is taught in the home, hence the emphasis on single parent households. Discipline is a concept that is not understood in most family units, threats and punishments (violence) are typically used as "disciplinary" actions and poverty is the result of gvt. violence.

This may be hard to accept, but "The World is a Reflection of Me" is an apt statement. We don't need to condemn anyone, if we look deep inside our self, to see what the riots trigger in our own ego. In fact, this is the ONLY way we can help change the situation. All the answers lay within Self.
Only then will we find understanding & compassion and change what is happening in our world. The gap between the 'haves' and the 'have nots' is widening. Yet both share the SAME fear of 'lack'.

Molyneux has good stuff and this is not bad at all, but in this video he says nothing of the provocation and inciting of these riots. He explains well how the 'powder keg' got here, but says nothing about what set it off this time. Perhaps I need to look at a different one, eh? If so, then he should at least make a mention to it in THIS video. He should realize that these videos are going to be traded like baseball cards. This video, all by itself, is full of good info, but misses that fact.

All this may be true, but it isnt an excuse to beating people up, robbing people, and burning down private property. I grew up with a single mom, had plenty of other issues to deal with, father died when I was 9. I never hurt anyone, committed a crime, etc.
Everyone has a choice. Media, school system being ultra liberal, nanny state, it has all made kids selfish little fucking punks who just wanna get trashed and fuck around. They dont feel disenfranchised, they just dont give a fuck

When the cost of living requires you to work at least 40 hours a week just to get by, with house prices so high they will never own their own property, with education costing more than most people earn in a year before living costs. No money is free even though our monetary system is just paper ink and numbers with no real value. I might agree with you if this country wasnt so fucked and oppressed but hey

@labartic Yeh its a normal week here, its one of the longest in europe, and the vast majority are still struggling and its getting worse. Thats not normal. The fact is there arent enough jobs in the UK for the people who live here, and many of those that have jobs now work in fear of losing them. The divide between rich and poor is larger than ever. I think you miss the point, its not just getting a job, its the state of our society and what are government are doing about it.

@labartic I didnt say they were protesting government policies, their behavior is inexcusable, but it is a product of a broken society, its been obvious for months that this was coming. The blame is on the people who commit the crimes, but people should realise that those that make the laws and legislation that have this country on its knees and push people further into poverty have even more to answer for, instead of using the media to incite fear and point the finger at anyone but themselves.

There is no solution. We need to have a total crash where the low life scum has to make something of themselves or die trying. Then the people who remain should either create a limited government or just a naturalist state ...what stephan refers to as anarcho capitalism. I call it naturalism because its still a correct description but sounds more palatable.
