  • Using terms like McDojo about any martial art speaks volumes about a person, sounds like someone that read a magazine and became a McExpert.I feel sorry for negative minded people,it must be hard to go through life like that.

  • SooBahk Do is a McDojo. Hwang Kee read a few books on Shotokan Karate then gave himself a blackbelt. Look at any decent book on Karate and Kee is not even mentioned. Outside the "cult of the striking hand" Kee is a joke. During the occupation of Korean, this "legendary" martial artist actually worked for the occupying Japanese forces on the Manchurian railroad. No wonder he was rejected from the unification of the Kwans.

  • Discipline amongst a group... is not something to be proud of.

  • they come from bagua punk

  • I Do TangSooDO XD

  • Soo Bahk!!!

  • hwang is the dojang where i take karate!!! i recegnise alot of the people in this. and this is what i learned. i'm just an orange belt, i'm i'm testing on the 17. this is so cool!!!

  • Ah, I remembered when I learned the 5 Element things in Soo Bahk Do.

  • Nah i think you kids babblin bout which martial art would beat another one r fuckin deuschbags. each art has its own unique shit. i study soobahkdo too but i do think muay thai is much more powerful in its form and techniques. soobahkdo has more emphasis on mentality and endurance, while its techniques are more precise

  • SOO BAHK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its not about fighting...the ultimate martial art is to win without fight..thats the spirit of soo bahk do..:)

  • Ever notice how the guys teaching these "deadly" martial arts are always fat bald white guys and no one in the class looks like they could harm a fly? Funny how all the "best" martial arts classes are only attended by pre teens, soccer moms and old men. All the real fighters (generally young men) are strangely absent...hint hint?

  • Thats cause the young men are embarrassed to get their ass kicked by real martial aritsts!!

  • Is that so? I've done Taekwondo for 8 years. One day my class was lucky enough to get a one hour training session from an "old man". This 60 year old guy was maybe 150 pounds, and a 9th Dan grand master. I watched him throw a 200 pound 2nd Dan guy who was in his mid 20s. He threw this guy across the room no worries.

  • one day you'll be a fat bald guy too. not everyone is a conditioned athlete, nor does everyone wish to become one. nor is everyone "generally young men". nor is everyone interested in 'fighting'...huge difference between self defense, and fighting.

  • Of course I'll get old one day, my point was that the people teaching these classes are always totally unqualified to teach someone how to defend themselves (aka fight). If these techniques really worked, you would see them being applied by real martial artists, and real martial artists are in good physical shape because you cant win a race in a Geo Metro. The place shown in this video is a total McDojo, anyone from a real gym can see that from a mile away. This is NOT how to defend yourself.

  • fighting and defending yourself are two completely different things. real martial artists are people who practice martial arts, whatever the discipline, whatever the reason. there arent rules or weight classes, and as i said, not everyone is a conditioned athlete...should they simply not be allowed to defend themselves? what happens when you get old and can no longer do a perfect double leg? or when you face an armed attacker or multiple attackers. most real gyms ignore those things.

  • Again you totally miss my point, I never said sport fighting, self defense is just another type of fighting. Do you honestly think this stuff is realistic for defending yourself in a real life situation? Axe kick, snap kicks, useless blocks and katas? You think an old man or woman is gonna get jumped and bust out an axe kick? No, people take these classes and think they know how to defend themselves and end up getting hurt because they have false confidence.

  • a fight is two people fighting each other. self defense is one attacker and one defender which may end up being a fight if the initial defense fails. i do think fighting can play a role in self defense

and yes i think some of this is good for self defense, i've used it myself more than once. noone i have seen really teaches students to use axe kicks and kata in a real fight or self defense situation. they practice those things for different reasons, balance, flexibility, coordination etc.

  • Who says a fight has to be one on one, it's not a fight if it's 2 on 1? Of course fighting plays a role in self defense, I didn't see them practicing any conflict mediation here, only physical defense (fighting). I challenge you to point out even three useful things in that video for self defense. The blocks and strikes were all completely unrealistic. Dojos like these are made to make money by making people feel like they are learning something valuable without any excessive physical work.

  • 2 on one=2 people attacking 1. ie...self defense scenario. not a fight..a fight is something that's agreed to (to me anyway), you put up your dukes, i put up mine, we're gonna see what the other one has...that's a fight.

  • Personally I don't believe in any form of self defense that doesn't emphasize regular practicing of practical techniques like boxing punches, knees from the clinch, and staying on your feet so arts like boxing, muay thai, wrestling/bjj. The other and best form of self defense on the street is being taught how to avoid the situation, get away and get help asap. Also I noticed you didn't bother to point out 3 useful things in this video :P

  • thats because its cloudy and the vid wont play. you can hardly judge an art based on a 6 min video. if you don't do it their way or agree with them doing it that way, that doesnt mean its no good.

boxing, muay thai, wrestling, all sports. agreed fights, rules, and weight classes.

i agree people should at least cross train in those things. but tma dont really punch with their fist on their hip you know, nor do they really think an ax kick or spinning hook is the first line of defense.

  • most people who don't do kata simply don't understand the point of it. it isnt literal. its a tool, a way to practice basic techniques, form, posture, movement.

but just out of curiosity..what do you think people SHOULD be training in? mma, bjj, krav maga...

  • How dare you try to call Soo Bahk Do a McDojo, when the only information you have on it is from a six-minute video. You're ignorant comments only make you seem like a hater and a bigot. By the way, saying that martial arts is not a physically strenuous activity only shows that you've never been to a real martial arts class, and certainly not a dojang. No reason to badmouth another's martial art just because you got your rear kicked by a six-year-old black belt when you were in college.

  • no you are, for being a hater on this video which doesnt even have anything to do with Muay Thai. Go away. You don't see me going onto other martial arts videos and hating there, now do you? so, in the spirit of martial arts, shut up.

  • I was commenting on garynlowa comment.

  • Muay Thai cant stand up to Soo Bahk Do.

  • Your are fucking retarded

  • wtf this guy blocks a Bo with his arm ? Nice

  • Nice! What Soo Bahk Do is it? My instructor is a 2nd degree in Korean Soo Bahk Do, but im in Mu Sa Moo duk kwan. People need to know that Tang Soo Do is a self defence, not a sport.

  • muay thai sucks; xtreme blindfolded chainsaw cage matches are the real thing.

  • Soo BAHK!

  • more dance than fight but its nice to look at, try muay thai

  • that is soo bias its not funny

  • amazing!
