4:3 to 16:9 Windows Movie Maker Widescreen

Thanks - this was a HUGE help and allowed me to do exactly what I was looking for (and it's incredibly easy for those not adept at editing video). Don't listen to the person who complained about having to download a bunch of shit. You need to download 2 things, Streamclip and Quicktime alternative. It's all free. I also found that I didn't have to go as far as adjusting the frame size. Just left it at 4:3 and cropped the top/bottom by a total o 120 and it worked beautifully.

I've had it! I've tried countless times to remove this stupid black bars, and I have never succeeded. EVERY somewhat decent YouTube video have I watched, "explaining" how to remove them, but never did it help me. Then I go to this video, with a little bit of hope, that this time it might work. I only use windows movie maker cause my other trial video editing programs such as Sony Vegas has expired. :P But you have to admit, WMM is NOT lame! I've got pretty good videos just by using that program. It's awesome, and with just a little bit of creativity, you've got a lot of options on how to edit your video. :)

However, when I put it into Windows Movie Maker the file appeared all weird --the color is greenish with lines of other colors in it...I don't get why...? :o

The original video was about 320x240, and I got it to 240x240, left cropped 24, right cropped 35...

Ok I figured out if you leave it set as 640x480, but crop 60 off the top and 60 off bottom, then it comes out widescreen and it doesn't stretch out the video.

@Necrommancer Windows is stupid so it has its own saved file type. Convert your movie into .avi and it will work.

@TehCupcakeBandito I totally agree. It's rotten how Windows 7 sticks you with the "improved" version, WindowsLive Movie Maker. That thing's a moronic slide show maker. The CLASSIC Movie Maker had a limited palette but incredible ways to finesse and play around them. I love being able to slice and dice. I'm probably ready for a "real" program like Sony Vegas. Still, Movie Maker is a spectacular workhorse. Thank Goodness the original version can be downloaded.

If your source video is 4:3, it has to be cropped to fit the 16:9 ratio

Actually there's an easier way to make it 16:9 and it does not require you to download anything.You can open movie maker,go to tools and click on options.Then click on 'advanced' and set the aspect ratio to 16:9.
