ok. u people r the stupid and "ignorant ones" this video gives me cold chills and is beautiful. these creatures r beautiful and amazing. sure there r trainers out there who abuse their horses but that is with any industry. and 212cjoh who thinks you have seen it first hand you must be hanging around some bad trainers. because almost all trainers treat their horses as good as they treat their kids. u people dont know what u r talking about. when u find out come back and apoplogize. :) great video
This is revolting. I can't understand how people can convince themselves that these horses are happy and are comfortable doing this. It is horrifying. There is nothing natural about the methods used to achieve these high steppin gaits, and to put these sweet good natured horses through that type of training is so so sad. All of you who are ignorant enough to promote this abuse should do some research and soul searching.
I had a direct son of Pride's Jubilee Star (1986).
He was great!! Not too talented flat shod by means of animation and overstride, but man he was fun. We jumped, did barrels, dressage, pole bending, showing and trail riding. He was super versatile and just a great guy! I cried for a week when my mom sold him :(
question: how did the early WGCs get crowned when they weren't padded, chained or sored? who allowed the judging and standard to change? there's no way this happened and people at the top of the industry didn't know about it and i wouldn't be suprised if many at the top were in on it. but hey, people have looked the other way while thousands of people are slaughtered for political purposes,so soring a few horses is no big deal i guess??
Just ignore Hogguide everyone--he likes to spread lies and rumors. He has no physical or written proof to back up his claims. I've asked him numerous time for proof and he can't provide it. It's mentality like his that proves why TWHs are continuing to be sored.
Oh, I loved the early champions but you can sure tell when the trend changed to the weighted padded up horses. Too bad they are only good for the show ring - I will take my flat-shod, unshoed, naturally gaited TWH any day over these newer pacey models. I just don't see the reasoning behind the padded horse.
Thank you so much for posting these videos, especially the one of "the early years." It's amazing to see how quickly the trend changed from a natural, flowing gait into the pads and flailing legs. Whether or not "soring" goes on, I still prefer the natural look. . .
I am PRO Big Lick, I am PRO Celebration, I am PRO pads, I am NOT agaisnt it what so ever. I want clean honest healthy compliant horses in the show ring, but I want Big Lick horses to NEVER go away. I like them!
TWHs have to pass EXTREAME inspections in order to show, taking up to 30 min b/c the Gov inspectors cant figure out if the horse is compliant (sore) or not. Most inspections take upward of 10 min from time it starts til the horse is passed. If the horse has ANY rough area on his pasturn he is turned down and the people are fined if the horse MOVES AT ALL during the inspection process He is turned down If the Horse walks a way that is deemed bad the horse is turned down
First off I don't know you and you don't know who I am. Callouses or Uniformly Thickened Epithelial Tissue are LEGAL under the 76 Animal Welfare Act and the Horse Protection Regulations, Its Grainuloma tissue (what is called scars) and ANY inflamed tissue (red or raw skin or open wounds) is STRICTLY prohibited and is NOT allowed what so ever and people are fined heavily if ANY suspension of non compliance is present...
Salycic Acid is what PEOPLE put on their FACE for pimples and black heads, Clean and Clear, Apricot Scrub, a lot of over night acne ointment ALL have salycic acid... Only time its used on a horse is to slightly take down a callous (think skin) to make the horse more comfortable, and so the USDA won't turn it down for having too thick of skin on its pasturns...
you think you know so much don't you? it doesnt make them more comfortable the skin is thick because it is calloused from checmical treatments and open sores which you do get penalized for by the usda, hence the reason for removing them and wearing them down so you can get away with the abuse. don't talk down to me like i don't know what i'm talking about. I probablly have a lot more information on the subject than you could ever get your hands on.
I have thick skin and "callouses" on my hands and I haven't been "chemically sored".
Racing, work, pleasure horses, THAT ARE RIDDEN AND USED ON A DAILY BASIS, get thickened, calluses on their feet and any other area that is repetitively made to bend, flex, move, etc.
@Hogguide Interestingly I went out and checked all 8 horses of mine in the backyard. Not one has thick skin or calluses anywhere, even my riding horse of 15 years has not a hair out of place.
The "scar rule" was a last ditch effort by the USDA to make the padded TWH industry look bad. They couldnt prove soring was happening on the number of horses they claimed, so they have to make up "scar rule violations" to justify their bloated TAX PAYER PAID salaries. They dont even follow their own rules and guidelines about how to check a horse, thus the reason most trainers and owners will not risk their livlihood and all the USDA thugs to check their horses.
@Hogguide uneducated, heartless, lazy, non-training assholes are not worth my time. karma is a bitch, just keep that in mind. and if you think we USDA "THUGS" are troublesme now, just wait until next year when we are much more "involved" in our seraches.
@Hogguide thank you for my bloated "tax payer paid" salary!! i do enjoy spending my money on NATURAL horses that i put weeks and weeks of training into to get them going properly! And the great feeling I get when i take my horses to shows and whip your padded horses asses. Because you know, it's not like I don't pay taxes myslef...but you know whatever tickles your pickles people!!! lol
The gait is inherent to the THW, its a lateral gait similar to the Icelandic horse's Tolt or the Rack of an American Saddle bred the KEY difference is that in the TWH breed the head shake up and down is a very desirable trait sought after by breeders, and the other main difference is the back end, we desire a deep and long stride with the back feet sweeping and staying as low to the ground as possible that is achieved with a crooked/sickle hock witch helps in the shake/nod of the head.
and pads are soring as well because it sets the back and hips at unnatural angles while under strenuous activity hence creating back problems and the awkward way that they walk with their hind feet while working. but no you're right they're completely different...now before you make yourself sound even more rediculous actually think before you...well actually just think period
@cashssummerdream2000 just think? i think our the one who needs since. yes im all for a padded horse. so who cares. its not a big deal. nothing creates back problems. most horses that use their butt end already did it before they was paddded, it just helped them lay their leg on the ground more. think b4 u talk.
okay so apparently you need to go back to school to learn english as well as equine physiology. and by the way...considering i have my degree in equine sciences i don't have to think before i talk because i know exactly what i'm saying and for you to tell me that its not a big deal is rediculous! its like you wearing high heels and going to the gym...the extra 4" you get from heels put your back at an unnatural angle not to mention the strain you're putting on the horses' ligaments and tendons.
okay so are you a trainer? have you worked with horses or gone o school for them? have you ever owned a previously sored horse or inspected one at a show? you sound completely ignorant by saying "its just hanging chains" the chains are beating the pasterns/ coronery bands creating bruises...hence, when inspected and palpated they flinch because that area is sore because its bruised.
Who wants to go watch back yard nickle sob's go around a show ring, when they CAN'T even step over their own tracks, shake their heads or even do a running walk w/out going into a trot? People want to see FREAKS people want excitement in the show ring, not average backyard pets. I don't watch a football game to see the average Joe playin. i don't watch car races to see your every day 4cyl Honda, i don't WANT to see your natural or average! i want to see freaks! the best! the most EXTREME!
Now i like a good park horse, but I'd rather take a punch in the face rather than watch a bunch of flat peckers go around doing LESS than a AQH does when it walks. Who shows up to Big Lick shows? EVERYBODY and people that don't even own horses. Who shows up at pecker shows? ONLY the people that show. NOONE else. so take that natural crap to someone who gives a damn. Oh and just a FYI MOST of the horses on this video were SORRY SOB's and would quit if you ever did try to fix (sore) them.
o my! imagine that fixing a horse, taking away pain...hmmm sounds humane to me...and you're right they would quit because they don't want to be doing what they're doing. let me wrap acid around your ankles and cook the skin , then put 8oz chains around it and make you run 5 miles with the chains slapping against your burnt skin and see how much you like it.
@RedCocaine Well, at least you're honest about not caring how much pain a horse is in, as long as you get your thrills and jollies. Bread and circuses.
so 14 seconds and 1.52 are the same clip? Is it tribute, or true grit?
