  • In 1990 Brunette broke up after the deal from Capitol Records got dropped. Most LA bands were dropped at this time as attention shifted from LA to Seattle.

  • This version is so weak. Sounds like a wannabe Rod Stewart.

    Streatheart first then Hardlines.

  • oh fuck yeah . I've been looking for this for years! THIS VERSION

  • Sometimes this version hits me,sometimes its Hardline's version. This is good now at 5:10am.Hardline's version hits me when i go out to get wasted lol..

  • I believe the song was originally written by Desmond Child, who wrote hits for many people. Including Bon Jovi and Aerosmith and is currently collaborating with Katy Perry. I played guitar on the Brunette version of Hot Cherie. (Pre - Hardline)

  • @christopher91306 Original song is sang by Streeheart in 1984. You can find it here in youtube

  • @christopher91306 you were in the band?

  • @michael17415 I was the guitarist in Brunette with the Gioeli Bros.

  • @christopher91306 Dude thats awesome!! \m/

  • @christopher91306

Why did you leave? Johnny is like the greatest most underrated singer ever!

  • LOVED LOVED LOVED this version when I was a teenager!! Thanks for sharing!!

  • Danny's version is the best. I had a hard time finding it to download on my IPOD. i-tunes didnt have it. Found it on MP3 rocket.

  • OUTSTANDING!!!! BRAZIL ALSO LOVES THIS SONG!!!

  • Have always loved this tune--used to play it over and over as well. Awesome voice and what a song-a classic! To hot women the world over who inspire us men to write songs like this!

  • I remember this song from back in the day... I was dating Sherry at the time.

She wasn't as hot as the song.

  • This guy used to manage an apartment building i lived in when I was a kid.

  • Back in the day Baby.... I lived This SONG. Hott. He sang the F outta this .

  • What a performance, what a voice. I loved this song when it was played on the airwaves back in 1984, and it still stands up.

  • he captivated this song!

  • Hardline's version is every bit as great as is that by Danny Spannos

  • You have to love a song with your name in it!! "Your getting me Hot Cherie!!" - Cherie ;)

  • For those who are interested, none of Danny Spanos 3 LP albums were ever re-released on CD. Such a shame since the interest for a CD would be great. Record executives - such geniuses! DUH! This song is available only CD format on "Heard It On The Radio" Volume 2 which is a various artists compilation issued on Renaissance records.

  • Dude sells it! Great tune.

  • Dude sells it!

  • They played this on WMMS in Cleve, Oh. in1983. Still one of the hottest songs ever! Thanks for posting

  • I remember when I was in the military in Texas,,I bought this tape and this DUdeeeeeee totally ROCKS!!!! Does anyone know if he originated from>?,awsomeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

  • LOVE this version, remember listening to it alot in the early 80's. Is it just me, or is this recording that was posted "sped up" alittle??? I haven't heard the Spanos version for ages, but it just sounds "faster" than i remember it.

  • Danny Spanos - a star that never quite "took off" ... I agree with another comment that the "desperation" and "yearning" in his voice is just amazing ... this guy could, and should have been a big star ... back when I was booking concerts at UF in the early 80s I remember a major agency (Premier?) was pushing him for college dates, but then suddenly he was pulled off the road ... lifestyle issues allegedly, but it's still a great song

  • Thanks for putting this up here!!!!

  • Streetheart was the Original & First band (who were Canadian) to record this song! Next came Danny Spanos to record/cover it . Next came Hardline who did another cover/recording of the same song. Period! End of debate. Because Danny Spanos version was the only version to chart in the Top Ten he is considered by many to be the original artist which he is not. However

, I believe in my own opinion the Danny Spanos version is the best!

  • @954cudaman - AGREED! Danny's version is the original and the best!

  • after spanos was brunette and then hardline!

  • Love the desperation in his voice. much better than Hardlines. Of course I loved this song in the 80's

  • A true classic.

  • Great memories. They just opened the most happening rock club in Austin--Cardi's.This song was part of that once-in-a-lifetime scene.I remember...

  • Nice version, man...!

  • whoever posted that Danny didn't sing this first has no clue as to his career. He was an exceptional talent and could have taken the industry by storm if he hadn't of let the life style take him over. God bless dad

  • This is merely a cover of Streetheart! Hardline - who has covered Streetheart and not Danny Spanos - has released the best version ever!

  • @tubxes The Streetheart version didn't come out until 1984 on an unreleased songs compilation...the DannySpanos version came out in 1983. That would make his version the first to actually be released.

  • Top 3 favorite songs from High School. And this version is the best by far. Rockin.

  • This is a good song. Talent comes in many different forms and styles. You dont have to like a song to appreciate talent.

  • this guy sucks compared to the version by streetheart and hardline it sound like fucking queer disco get another career Danny Spanos!

  • Personal opinion of course, but this guy & the frontman of Streetheart have nothing on Johnny Gioeli doing this song. And if it's the hair metal that puts you off, there's always Crush 40 to prove the guy's got soul & character like no other. Danny's pretty damn good to ^^

  • The song originally recorded by Streetheart and not by Danny.Anyways...Spanos was the first to cover it

  • Due to some people here saying this is original : original song Hot Cherie is written and recorded by band Streetheart.

  • Not sure why everyone thinks Hardline's is better. It just sounds like a traditional hair metal song when they play it. I love hair metal, but come on...most of that isn't music. Not real music. This version has emotion with it and a voice with character. Character is the most important thing in a voice, Bob Dylan is proof enough of that.

  • @wearethearchers i agree with your comment, except "most of that isn't music." ofc its music. and i love both versions.

  • @Joppin3 This is my issue with trying to describe "music." Yes, it's categorized as music, but I think that term has been thrown around way too much. Hardline's version is simply not what music really is and I wish more people could distinguish "music" from "sounds with a beat." Don't get me wrong though, I still love Hardline's version. I like plenty of songs - and bands in general - that I don't really think can be considered as music.

  • THIS version is a cover as well. The Canadian band Streetheart recorded this before Spanos did. But, I'd have to say this is the definitive version, in my opinion. Whoever said this guy's voice was worse than the dude from Hardline is obviously tone deaf.

  • Just found this record at Goodwill for 98 cents after tax. What a steal!!!

  • i didn't know until now, but he used to live in the same city i live in now. hahaha. it's a little craphole town but it's weird to know a mainstream artist came from here.

  • @kaceyBAM435 can you tell me where this guy 'originated form??? thx Rockkkkkk ON!!!!!!!!!!!

  • for those of you that like the hardline guy more...or just hardline in general. the guitarist is neal schon originally in sanatana and journey. check that out. and the singer. well his name is johnny gioeli. he is also in Crush 40, which is one of my favorite bands. i suggest the songs live and learn, and into the wind, if u want a good feel of that band. lastly. he is also in Axel Rudi Pell, a german metal band. check out the album titled Oceans of Time. hope this helps some people

  • I like both versions.

  • Wow!! that is a true obscure 80's flashback!!! Spec---freaking---tacular.....

  • hardline is better

  • @DoggyNeo for those of you that like the hardline guy more...or just hardline in general. the guitarist is neal schon originally in sanatana and journey. check that out. and the singer. well his name is johnny gioeli. he is also in Crush 40, which is one of my favorite bands. i suggest the songs live and learn, and into the wind, if u want a good feel of that band. lastly. he is also in Axel Rudi Pell, a german metal band. check out the album titled Oceans of Time. hope this helps some people

  • wow this is my tune in 1985 in high school days ,great days man . the best of times the 80,s.....................

  • amazing voice danny!!!!!!i think he is greek!!!very nice!!!i could listen to it a thousand times!!!!

  • The cold breeze and dying campfire thing are, in my opinion, some of the most romantic lyrics ever written. While this song was originally written and recorded in 1981 by the Canadian band Sweetheart.. it was never released as such and Danny Spanos made it what it is with his 1983 release heard here. His version will definitely go into my personal top 10 lifetime faves. The Hardline verson.. uh... no.

  • To clarify.. Sweetheart did, in fact, release this song.. but... it was not included on the album for which it was originally written and scheduled.. if that makes any sense. If not, never mind :-)

  • @FromMyEyesToYours .....that Canadian band is Streetheart not Sweetheart. If anyone can get their hands on Streetheart's greatest hits(live on one side) cd and listen to songs like Action, Hollywood and see how kick ass and great they were. Also listen to their great version of the Rollin Stones "Under my Thumb". From what I undertstand, Streetheart still tours occasionally on the summer festival circuit and some bars.

  • @TheMature57 .... ah.. STREETheart.. I stand corrected. :-)

  • Incredible tune! The HARDLINE cover is great , but this original is much better!

  • Comment removed

  • Bad, Bad Bad!!!!!!

    A Rod Stewart wannabe.

    StreetHeart and Hardline kicks ass!!!

  • Yes the debate lives on,on who did this song first-lol.While Spanos was the first to release the song..Streetheart wrote the song and recorded it in1981,and was gonna release it on their Dancing with Danger album in1983,but it never made it.After the band broke up in 84,it was released on a album of unreleased studio tracks.-Streetheart - BURIED TREASURE

    LP (Capitol ST-6514)

Recorded: Dec 1981, Century 21 Studio, Winnipeg

    Released: 1984

    Hot Cherie (R. Bishop/K.Shields/D.Gutheil/K.Sinneave)

  • Ironically from Streethearts Dancing with Danger album in 1983,Ace Frehley would cover the title track 5 years later in 1988 I think it was.

  • is that the paul dean band?

  • Paul did play on Streetheart's 1st album "Meanwhile back in Paris" back in 78,then went on to form Loverboy with the drummer as well a few years later.ironically 3 original members of Streetheart are now in Loverboy. But Paul did put out a few CD's in his own name in the late 80's and early 90's.

  • One of the best songs ever. Hardline did a good job with it, but it was the "simplified" version. The clean guitar work that's so cool in this version is missing from their remake. Still good, but different.

  • Man i love this song! I saw Danny play Live at "The Chance" in Poughkeepsie N.Y. back when this song came out. Thanks for posting

  • wht? is this the original?

damn, but this sounds great with Johnny Gioeli hardline's singer

  • hardline has nothin on this

  • rac has it right, no way this is canadien, check coppyright

  • This version sux... like hearing a cover band live.

  • Just so you all know..this song is an original from a canadian band called STREETHEART.....this is a cover,,,FACT.

  • This guy's voice is so shitty compared to the Hardline guy's voice.

  • @Merle1987 Yeah dude Hardline's cover is much much better!!!

  • @Sega8891 for those of you that like the hardline guy more...or just hardline in general. the guitarist is neal schon originally in sanatana and journey. check that out. and the singer. well his name is johnny gioeli. he is also in Crush 40, which is one of my favorite bands. i suggest the songs live and learn, and into the wind, if u want a good feel of that band. lastly. he is also in Axel Rudi Pell, a german metal band. check out the album titled Oceans of Time. hope this helps some people..

  • @HippyCat2913 Yeah dude I'm a huge fan of Hardline, Crush 40 and Axel Rudi Pell so I definitely know everything you're talking about very well! They are all awesome! I own all of Crush 40's albums, Hardline's Double Eclipse and II but I have yet to buy any Axel but I have heard quite a bit!

  • Danny Spanos does a great dance version of this song. Hardline does a hard hitting arena rock version. Both good. This is the original.

  • Wow, this is terrible compared to the Hardline version.

  • I used to listen to this in the 80's and LOVED it. Then I heard Harline's and wasn't that impressed with Hardline. But the more I listened to it, the more I liked it, and now I like both versions . What a GREAT song!!

  • what a sexy voice

  • so good

  • Nice chorus laden guitar. The sax lead break gives the song a whole new feel. Love the high energy and the vocal arrangement. Kudos, you nailed it.

  • I like this version and Hardline's version. The Streetheart version is so awful it's sickening.

  • HARDLINE !!!!!!!!

  • idk y people is gettin madd @ da fact dat hardline made their own cover 2 dis song if i made a song n johnny covered it i would be honored wat can i say johnny's a legend

  • i think its true hardline wouldnt have made it if it wasnt 4 him but johnny's vocals in the hardline version was put wit more passion johnny could neva mess up sumtin he covers he will either surpass it or match it n to me in dis case he surpasses

  • This guy was great!!

  • Great tune from a Rio Grande Valley Texas artist!

  • every version has his "i dont know what",that shows his style and the time they were played in, like all versions in his way

  • man! i grew up with my dad playing this song over and over. He lost his record and has bitched ever since. I am totally gonna take this and put on a cd. your a pal

  • Just gimme your ICQ-Number and I'll send you the whole record if you want to.

  • KLOS used to play this one heavy

  • is there any danny spanos video?

  • Great old song--i remember meeting Spanos in San Antonio TX in 1984 when this album came out......it got heavy airtime for a couple months--then vanished..... Be nice if a new digitally-remastered recording of this were produced......

  • hardline 10

  • I think Hardlines versions much better sorry guys

  • i didnt know hardlines was a cover , but i love this one too !

  • This is one of the greatest 'pop' tunes ever! How did this not become a hit? I bought the album when it came out. Didn't know Hardline covered it. I'll have to check it out.

  • I had never heard Hardline's version until just now. Sorry, but Danny Spanos did it first and best! Hardline took all of the passion out of this song; Danny Spanos sings it with intensity and desperation!

  • Did'nt get much airplay in the 80's. hot hits 98 played it in philly 4 a week or 2. it was gone my friend bought thecassette and we burned this song out.I don't like how hardline claims it as theres. Neil Shoan never mentioned danny's original.I agree with dizdagmargin.

  • I like this version and Hardline's version. The Streetheart version sucks serious ass, though.

  • Looked for this song for years - love his voice - Thanks!!

  • Hardline would have no version if Spanos would have not written it first.

  • Been looking for this song for years! Thanks..

  • Back in the day, when i first heard "hot Cherie" on the radio, i went out to the record store the following pay day to grab the tape. I played the flavor out of that tape. Little did I know that i'd meet and work with a girl named Cherie-shoulda been my wife, but that's another story :)...... ah, good times!! Still a good song after all these years.

  • ok, i just played the hardline version. it was different buy no way as good as the original. no sax.....or clear cymbal hits. and danny you have a raw and sexy voice. god i love this song........... been playin it for 20 years!!! (guess my age and weight) would love to see it live........diane

  • danny , do you read these??? i heard this song while camping in cape may NJ about 20 years ago. it came on the radio and it was awsome. they didnt say who sang it , but i heard it again and this time they gave your name and song title. when i got back to pa., i searched until i found the tape LOL..........played it to death. two years a go i found the cd on line and was just listening to it on the way home from work today. ROCKIN UP RT 70!! love it and the second one too!!! diane

  • Rick Derringer---lead guitar.

  • LONG live ange SPANOS!!!!! and helens cheese mouni, that joey loves.

  • I MUST HAVE THIS ALBUM! this song is that awesome

  • I agree with hotpink28xox,Danny Spanos "Kicks Ass"

  • This is horrible! Sounds like Eddie Money and Don Johnson made a song for a "B" movie. I prefer Hardline's version by a mile.

  • The original Danny Spanos version smokes anything out there. Sorry, Hardline.

  • I think this version overall is better, tho the voice in parts is slightly off but in other parts its great.

  • good but the hardline version is ROCK! ROCK! and still ROCK!

  • The vocals ruin this version. Kudos to Hardline for fixing that.

  • is the original version, pal

  • What the hell..? I didn't even know Hardline's version was a cover, that's really really lame.

This version is horrible, his voice isn't that great either.. It's actually really weak, especially compared to Johnny's.

  • Thanks for POSTING. I was looking for this for years

found it on "heard it on the Radio" Volume2

    for those interested

  • I was looking for this ... couldn't find it a year ago. Only Hardline, which is good. I did want the original, though! Thank you!!!!

  • Yeah, I agree!!! I remember when this first came out in 83' I think. The only recording I had of it was off the radio with tons of static and of course the tape was mangled. Thanks for posting the original. Nothing beats this version!!!

  • hehe, good to know all this time i knew hardline version rocks! this is a diferent style, but very good too! streetheart's okay but isnt as close as this ones! tks keep on bringing this rarities :)

  • OMG Hardlines Version is a million lightyears better, cuz this guys voice isn't very good. In other words even my grandma could perform that one better. No competition to the absolutly amazing Jonnhy Gioeli.

  • its another style of music, of vocal, there's no comparation.

and why didn't you post the video of your grandma singing??? will be great!!!!

  • que versão fodida!!! do caralho... aliás, deve ser a versão original...

    demais

Fora a capa do disco neh?? o cara é igual o vilão do filme "esporte sangrento", de mullets, num quarto de hotel no suburbio, cheio de barata, com umas pétalas no fundo, misturadas com camisinhas.

    Genial!!!

  • Ok, it seems like i remember this song but not this version and not the version by Hardline. Could have their been a 3rd group that covered it? Or am i just getting old and losing my memory here haha.

  • Streetheart did a version of this song. I personally think this version and Hardlines' version is light years better than Streethearts'.

  • After downloading Streethearts version it all comes back to me and i totally agree with you. Both the Hardline and Spanos versions are much better than Streetheart in my opinion.

  • No problem. I personally think Hardlines' is the best version. This version is a close second in my book, though.

  • Don't forget the Brunette version - 80's

  • I agree with Wrathchild. Hardline's version is the best, I can listen to it anytime.

  • Ooh, the sadness and feeling in his voice, beautiful!

  • hardline made this song A LOT better, although tih version is ok

  • hardline continues to claim this song. says lyrics by hardline. the songs about ten years older then there release.danny is the only reason anyone knows there name.

  • oh by the way when i mean cover i meant cover by hardline

    nice sax solo too

  • Wow! This is great, never knew it was a cover. Thanks for posting!
