I don't think they fulfilled all their objectives. It was noisy, slow, and I'm pretty sure it left some traces. It looked like it used glue to stick to the walls. I also noticed that in one of the videos it had a guide wire or something.
I agree, it is uselessly slow at that stage of developement. Probably because it requires setting the spines in place or something. Some amount of time for the fibers to grip properly. That guidewire is probably a control wire. You'll note it is never actually taught, there is no weight on it.
see i cant help but think about how the government is going to use all these new robots they are coming up with to be used as surveillance on the citizens. All we need is 1,000's of these flying around the country watching your every move.
What are the useful application for designing a robot that can walk up the sides of a building? Will it be able to clean my car?

@davepamn The military can further develop it and use it for spying or tactical missions.
The police can use it for certain SWAT operations.

I´m impressed but please improve it a bit more so it can walk on the ceiling. I´ll take two of them to paint my ceilings or to change light bulbs.
5/5 for the engineering

It doesn't use glue. It uses spines. Also, if they decided to use a belay line for a youtube demo, I wouldn't hold it against them.
(other than that, I really don't have much to disagree with you about.)
