A great version, not as good as the killer's....Hank would have been proud.....what a wonderful artist Gene Vincent was.....again more appreciated in Europe than in his homeland....thats the sad part.
@blindleroygarnett "Shamelessly"? There were Hank´s original and Jerry Lee´s rock´n roll version...If you cared to pay any attention to what Gene said, you had already known he was doing Jerry Lee´s version.
The greats of white rock and roll are Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly and The Everly Brothers. In England Cliff Richard. But Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Bo Diddley and Ray Charles are greats makers of rock and roll.
Before to Cliff Richard no one to England. He`s got every songs like "Move it", "High class Baby", "Dynamite". I think he should be in the list. Maybe in USA was not very important but in Europe was great.
Do Not EVER forget the late great guitar whiz Bobby Fuller. I Fought The Law was a pure rocker as was Rock House, Let Her Dance, Jenny Lee, and Annie Lou
what are all these damn 'buts' about?? the guy slays with this song. Just appreciate that your hearing a Rock Legend doing a little something different and he carries it off!! Enough with the comparisons--just enjoy!! --thanks, anneesvinyl....
hmmm yea Gene Vincent had far to beautiful of a voice to waste it singing a Hank Williams/Jerry Lee Lewis song. This is more suited to Jerry Lee's style.
I respect and appreciate Gene and Jerry Lee's version of this song, but for me Hank Sr. owned it with his sad soul. No one else came genuinely close to expressing it.
you must not have any eardrums. Jerry Lee's sun version (without the background singers) is right up there with the original as JLL loves and respects Hank Williams.
piano man got nervious so gene calmed him down

Not quite the Killer but good. You gotta give it to Gene that he gave it an honest go, but Jerry Lee can't be matched on that number in particular.
