This video was helpful, but I disagree with one main point. He says that this is more of an "organizing" issue, rather than a "getting rid of stuff" issue. NOT TRUE for most hoarders. The hoarders I know need to get rid of 3/4 of their stuff before they can even start organizing. You can be disorganized, yet not a hoarder. A hoarder by nature keeps too much stuff in their environment. Saying that a hoarder just needs to get organized is license for them to keep their stuff indefinitely.
His book "Stuff" was a really good read. He is very good at not demeaning or overly criticizing his subjects. You can tell he genuinely feels for the 'hoarders' and wants to help get to the psychological root of their compulsions to provide them a therapy solution that will stick.
one day I went to my ex boyfriends house and saw that he was a hoarder inside . outside it was the most discusting thing I ever saw he wouldnt get help . he really needed help but never got it we finally found out he was not only ocd +high funtioning acustic very high maintaince person I had to get out he was killing my spirit
@persianlady55 I feel the same with my mother. She is literally making it impossible for me to love her. I am at my breaking point with this sickness. EVERYTIME WE TRY TO SAY SOMETHING SHE FLIPS IT LIKE WE ARE ATTACKING HER. ITS SO FRUSTRATING. I CANNOT TAKE THIS ANYMORE,
Very helpful and interesting. This video helps me to understand some of my mother's behavior as she aged and held on to many hundreds of pocket books. They were piled a foot high all along her bedroom walls, and she steadfastly resisted any attempt on my part to give them away.
