  • Why couldn't Israel host or even participate in the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest?

  • Una magnífica canción!!

  • It was also Israels rememberance Day ( 19th Aprtil)

  • @0:01-0:06. why does the israel official forbid the drinking (or wine, i dont know) ?

  • THIS IS TOO MUCH BETTER THAN ABBA'S WATERLOO FROM SWEDEN!

I think this is the best Eurovision song Ever!!!

  • Yeah I live also in North America and I am not familar with the way North America would do this never ever heard of it over hear never ever heard the hallelujah song over here neither

  • Another great song from Israel. Bravo!

  • Israël: A true Eurovision country :). Kisses from Holland

  • so the winning country hosts the next eurovision song contest right? sorry, but being an american, i'm not too familiar with the way how which country hosts the event.

  • Yeap usually the winner hosts the next contest, but in 1979 Israel won the contest again after winning in 1978. Their budget was gone on the 1979 contest, and so they invited other broadcasters to take over, the Netherlands finally had the honour.

  • thank you. here the winners got real trophies, instead of the medals that they gave out in the past.

  • But where (as an American) do you know the contest from? I didn't know it was known in America.... Nice to know who's watching though.

  • Well, i actually found out about it while surfing Wikipedia's webpage last year. When I saw the winners of the first 20 years of ESC, I decided to check it out on YT. I never knew how talented these young people were for singing such beautiful songs in their own languages. :)

  • @FlavioGirl I found out about Eurovision because of Wikipedia's page too, but back in 2006. :p

  • I heard tgat it was the israeli remembrance day and the ESC 1980 at the same day

  • That's right - according to the book 'The Complete Eurovision Song Contest Companion 1999' (Gambaccini, Rice and Brown) the date set for the 1980 Contest coincided with Holocaust Remembrance Day, so unsurprisingly, Israel decided not to defend the title.

  • I need some help on this please. Isn't this song a Jewish/Hebrew prayer? If anyone knows could they please be kind enough to post it please thank you.

  • @deloufu Well, the word "Hallelujah" means "praise G-d" in Hebrew, and its origin is in the book of Tehilim (Psalms) written by king David. The song's lyrics, however, are about gratitude but are modern. For their translation - search for "Diggiloo" site.
