no, oscars get 1 foot easy. I had 2 1" oscars and they turned into 10" oscars in about 3 months. They nearly got killed by my carpinte, so I returned them. Any oscar will grow to 14"+. They need a 75 gallon tank, MINIMUM!
You can do whatever you like, it's ok for a small one, but they grow big, and they like to swim around. So if you really like your fish, you'll invest in something bigger. Like a 55 gal.
Oscars in a 5 gal is a bad idea. They will out grow that in no time. Plus when they're young, they are aggressive and eat other fish alot more. You don't need a heater for a small tank like that.
