Yeah yesterday I was shoveling snow from a driveway for an old friend of my fathers who heard about me going into the army as a combat engineer and he told me he was a WWII vet, he was going to Normandy on D Day but his ship was sunk before it got there. Its pretty cool talking to veterans. I hope I can get to serve one day.
Oh yeah, shoveling snow is a great way of preparing to service at the engineering corps, since the job of engineers is usually to blow stuff up and dig out mines/place mines :D

If I may sum up, I defend no one. I merely say that debating whether or not the Russians were good or bad is a little bit... shortsighted. I have to agree though, this common misconception that the Russians were the absolute evil is a little... cold war. There is very rarely a black and white, though I've noted that people do like to believe there is.

If I may put my "two bits" in, I must side with no one. If history has shown us one thing, it is that NO country is good or bad. Good and bad are merely tags which humans put upon themselves, and they are easily mistaken. Hitler was a horrid man, but in his deception of his people he might have actually made himself believe that the people that he murdered en masse were inferior. Russia was similar. It wasn't as though these people wanted to do wrong, it was not intentional in most cases.

Im studying Russian history at the moment in great detail. Anyway I wasn't directly countering your point of view so your little jab of ignorace is a bit hasty.
The Russians were reacting to unimaginable suffereing and atrocities commited by a people bent on their destruction and who rated them as 'sub-human' and who clearly showed it.
Im well aware of the crimes commited, but considering who poured these people into hell itself, I hold the leaders responsible.

Do you believe it, they won the war so they can alter history not only that most of the so called NAZI war crimes very few were inhumane, at least they shot them, meanwhile as soon as Russians entered Germany They would rape and murder entire cities, took there food beat small children, there was a report that one night when they raped countless women at least 30 times and even an 80 year women. Yer i bet your very aware of it.

the germans killed women and children in their hundreds in Stalingrad, they destroyed the city till it was unrecognisable. Russia had a different way of revenge, they had, and still have a very different culture, this to them was revenge and tbh you should just accept that, they were brave and corageous soldiers, and you could do a bit more to remember the hundreds of thousands of them that died for US, the allies, they gave a massive commitment so just remember them for their valour yh?

You are complaining about how russian soliders raped and murdered German civilians, once they occupied germany, well let me tell you that German soliders didnt only do that when they occupied a large part of the soviet union. Apart of the raping and murdering they burned entire villages, especially in white russia where a village suspected of aiding the partisans was burned to the ground together with its entire population of women, children and old people. What happened in germany was vengence.

The officers objected to such actions, and quite a lot of soldiers were shot after military trials for maraudering, its not like it was an order from Stalin to pillage Germany, it was a spontaneous act of revenge after 4 horrible years of suffering and humiliation.(unlike the nazis, who acted under the orders of the government)

Not only Germany were anti-Semitism as I said, Soviet was too etc. Italy was anti-Communism and anti-Slavism and most people in Europe couldn't stand homosexuality since we were Christians (and still are you haven't seen the homosexuality debate?). Most people was against blacks too (KKK in US?). Germany did not start the war themselves, they had help from both Soviet and Italy. Learn some history.

Germans started WW2 they recaptured rinehland destroyed Czechoslovakia united with Austria and atacked Poland.... Plus they made plans about conquering Europe and change her face.... Actually no. The Nazi-german leaders (!) forced the population into being against other "races". I am pretty sure that we (the german students) know much more about "our" history than you do ('least you aren't American, they don't even know much about their own past (remember: They rail against the consentration camps from the Nazis although their ancestors were responsible for the greatest genocide of the human history)).

In many country's history books in schools are made so that the country or it's people appear innocent, its like this in every country, even though that is not true. Many German ppl during Hitler's time actually liked him and believed everything he said. The Nazis didnt have to force people because many wanted to do it. Thats why Hitler was "VOTED" into the political position that lead to him becoming the Fuhrer of Nazi Germany.

Actually im German and if you knew anything about the NAZI they did not just shoot them. They would capture any soldier and take them to a chamber and they would run tests on them and do surgery on them (when they are awake) to try to complete their "perfect soldier" (a soldier who cant die but can kill millions) . And as far as Russians, a Russian in the marines picked my cousin up and ran atleast a mile with him on his back in heavy gunfire saving his life. Dont judge a book by its cover.
