i was there too, i was 19; i'm italian and that year i finished high school,so i spent all august in US for holydays.I remember that two days after the show came hurricane andrew, but i was lucky enough to have the flight on 23 to boston.I still have concert ticket, lollapalooza t-shirt and the plastic glass;thanks for sharing because even flow was the first track of the show, and eddie before starting sing it, i sang the chorus of summertimes roll by jane's addiction, you can listen in this video
LaLLaPaLooZa =DD Bicentennial Park a day to remember....right before Hurricane Andrew slammed us....this was by far the best lineup of all the tours ...only band missing was AIC..it's a shame they got lumped with Dinosaur JR and Primus in 93 ;(
RHCP, PJ and Nirvana (If I'm not mistaken they all toured together for a couple of months in the early 90's)all in one day that would have been heaven...
@Hunkola Hurricane Andrew hit one or two days later! I was working on the Mac Arthur causeway at the time which is near the park where the concert was held. We had to re-locate our equipment to higher ground before the storm hit!
@tidouble1 --- LOL.....you Pearl Jam fans are some crazy mofos......although it would be fucking cool to see them performing "Even Flow" while 100 mph winds were whipping through that concert........I remember being at a Metallica show while it was thunderstorming ---- COOLER THAN FUCK !!
@Hunkola HA no no the storm was the next day. This was the day before. Which means it was perfect out, as it usually is the day before a big hurricane.
@Hunkola the hurriane didn't come till the next day and a half. At the time we went to the concert it was a tropical storm and not a threat. We evacuated the day after the concert. It didn't hit till the middle of the night. concert was over!
@Hunkola the hurriane didn't come till the next day and a half. At the time we went to the concert it was a tropical storm and not a threat. We evacuated the day after the concert. It didn't hit till the middle of the night. concert was over!
i caught this concert at nawlins uno lake front arena right after hurricane andrew came in. 20" inches of mud a blotter hit and 100,000 pairs of shoes later ,still a show I will always remember! The sun set as Ministry came on and my hit kicked in WOW!
Does anyone know where in Miami and if it was before or after "Andrew" I was 10 at the time and had a cassette tape of ten. I just want to know where I was when they were here, and yes I can remember that far back.
Sorry to all of you people that think the old drummer of this band either made them or contributed to a large part of their success.
That's ridiculous.
I'm not saying that a drummer isn't important but in a band like Pearl Jam where you have so many stellar contributors, it's downright retarded to assume that.
Most people I know dig the melody or lyrics in Rock music...if you want beats then go listen to techno or rap.
i'm assuming it was a guy with a camcorder in the midst of a legion of fans jumping and shaking, not to mention pearl jam rocking the stage out, with the cam operator himself reveling in their glory
to be honest i prefer it how they play it now...and its not just matt...i think the rest of the band would have said, it needs to be slower to him, its obviously a joint decision, its still amazing
hell yes i remember it like it was yesterday hell of a concert sound garden ministry rocked it went to the shelbourne and rented after all day triping balls and they kicked us out ofthe hotel at about 1 am cuz of andrew will never forget it.......
Could Eddie possibly BE any sexier? I don't think so. It's so awesome when he freaks out and starts thrashing all over the stage. He has no inhibitions!
The only minor complaint I have about the videos out there of Lollapalooza 92 is that they don't show enough of the crowd.....I know the band are absolutely on fire but one of the most special things about the shows back then was the intensity of the crowd's reaction.
Was a great day; hot as hell though. Was the day before Hurricane Andrew hit, actually.
But I agree with another post here... Their energy was incredible back then. Saw them at a place in Miami not long before that (I think it was the Marquis? Was a former theater; maybe someone can confirm that for me), and that was an equally great show.
big difference how eddie used to sing this song in the early 90's and the way his performance is these days... now it seems to lack of intesity, vibration and feeling. iN THE 2000'S the growling and certain tones don't electrify anymore in the way he sings songs like alive, dissident, once, why go, jeremy, etc, etc..anyway, he`s still a really great musician and powerful singer though....
ya man understand that. i seen them in hartford ct last summer he had intensity pretty good still... but when he was younger obviously hes naturally gonna have more energy and intsensity. love them growls and tones though.
pearl jam is a great band! I`ve seen them live and they`re intense, it`s a pretty decent and honest band.Their albums and their lyrics are fair. And I know years have gone by and I don`t expect an angry Eddie jumping and growling all the time, I just miss certain tones in his voice, that gave that uniqness and personality to some of their songs and to the band....
well its understandable hes more laid back now considering hes in his 40's he just doesnt have that kind of energy he did when he was 24... not to mention he was probably drunk/stoned in his earlier performances lol

Bicentennial Park in downtown. Now it's immediately north of the arena (AAA).
Concert was on Aug 22 and the hurricane hit land on Aug 24
May be why the day of the concert the weather was perfect.
